A bit of guesswork here but from out of the carnage, the injury list with a month to go looks a bit like this:-

Jake Bowey (ill) —TBC
Kade Chandler (AC joint) — expected to start integrating into contact soon.
Tom Fullarton (hamstring) — continues to work through his recovery.
Luker Kentfield (pneumonia) — hospitalised in Perth over Christmas break and slowly recovering there. Expected back at the club soon.
Judd McVee (foot) (hamstring) — TBC
Jake Melksham (hamstring) — will miss the next block of pre-season training.
Christian Petracca (ribs) — expected to restart full training at the club soon.
Christian Salem (ill) — TBC
Charlie Spargo (Achilles) — making slow progress in his recovery.
Koltyn Tholstrup (bone stress) —  expected to be sidelined for the next 8 to 10 weeks.
Jack Viney (rib cartilage) — TBC
Caleb Windsor (skin infection on his foot) —1 week

@chelly  thanks

And it’s February!!! With no games actually played.

Hmmmm

i think, at this stage, it's something more like only fullarton, kentfield, mcvee, and tholstrup with injuries / illnesses likely to rule them out of the first part of the pre-season / season

We've had quite a few players this year and last year with infections... maybe worth keeping some betadine in the change room and reminding the boys about the value of a soapy shower!

Does a session in seawater help avoid this sort of infection.

Used to be a regular report of players shivering in the water as it helped muscle recovery or something

(Help its obvious  Im out of my pay grade  here).

Would a  training base closer to the sea facilitate this.

I was advised that Spas are the ideal site for spreading infections.

(Hoping for someone with idea of reality)

Anyone else like me and waiting patiently for the McVee injury update?!

Yes for sure. I’ve broken it into 3 categories given the hammy didn’t look like a micky mouse one.

GOOD NEWS - 4 week and will miss just round 1.

MEH/ MODERATE NEWS - 8-10 weeks and will be back about round 6

BAD NEWS - tore the string off the born. Surgery and won’t be seen until after the bye.

Anyone else like me wonder why other clubs get the results of player scans and make them public a lot quicker than MFC (or is this just a case of MFCSS)?

Scans were yesterday afternoon. I suspect the radiologist would have only had a chance to look at it today. They will then have to speak to the Specialist doctor around prognosis and recovery time. I doubt we will hear anything until tomorrow.

i'm now suspecting that if it was (relatively) good news we would have heard by now 🤒

Fullarton played in yesterday's match sim, so just Kentfield, McVee and Tholstrup out for Round 1 (with Kosi of course) and still a big question mark over Charlie Spargo - still no match sim for him yesterday, although encouragingly he took part in other drills, pre match-sim.

Case Study was Max's knee in 2022 against Brisbane. I think it was almost a full week before we found out the recovery time AND that was good news considering what the potential was.

It was round 2 2023 on a Friday night and the good news that it wasn't serious came through on Sunday afternoon. I only remember because the news came through during the last qtr of the Casey game and everyone in the crowd was talking about it.

8-12 weeks is my guess

Big Loss

Yeah same vibes

6-8 weeks is smack back in the middle of the of the good to bad news spectrum. He’ll probably back in the side around the round 6 game against Freo.

AMW seems the logical replacement while Howes and Hore might be asked to play on smaller defenders if either of those guys has a good practice match series.

Please no more injuries given Kozzie’s also out for a while.

Juddy hasn't missed since he debuted and has had a pretty good track record with injuries so this really sucks.

Really hope this means that AMW gets another go in the senior side. I thought he showed a lot of promise late last year.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
