The first thing that springs to mind for me when I think of such occupations, is Patrick Swayze as Jim Cunningham, the motivational speaker, in the film Donnie Darko.

Ben’s first assignment: get into Clarrie’s head and convince him he’s NOT a fat [censored], which is how he currently sees himself. He believes this.

At the sponsors/coterie function two weeks ago our DA boss-lady asked us to get a pic of a player in our tent. It’s a DA thang. She suggested Clarrie so I went to ask him. As we were heading to the tent we passed a fan who realised where I was taking Clarrie and this bloke says, “Hey Clayton, I hope you’re not thinking of eating any sausages!” and he laughs and nods towards Clarrie’s stomach.

I instantly sensed a change in Clarrie and I said, “Dude thinks he’s hilarious.” Clarrie put his hand on his stomach and said, “He’s not wrong, though.” I told him for starters pot/kettle and a VERY BIG pot at that (this bloke wasn’t exactly rocking a washboard belly). I reminded him that he’s super fit and in great shape etc. and that genetics plays a part etc. and similar uplifting facts.

Clarrie perceives himself as fat and perception is reality. But perception can be changed.

Have at him, Ben!!!

it was definitely noticeable how self-conscious he is in the videos from 2024

i mean, he's not exactly as ripped as he was in 2022 and previous years, but he still looks pretty fit to me

definitely. can you mentally transport the guys back to 2021?

Mindfulness has a focus on the present. Go Dees in 2025!

PS We no longer have Gus, Spencer, Hibbard, and Neal-Bullen.

He’s definitely self-conscious and it’s sad to see. He’s putting in so much work and now that his hand has fully healed he’s close to 2021 Claz (IMHO). Goody and Selwyn and pretty much everyone involved are very pleased with where he’s at now. Most importantly, he knows that he’s turned the corner. But it’s this notion that he’s not ripped and that he’s “fat” that seems to pervade his thoughts. I guess running around with the likes of Tracc and Melks etc. doesn’t help, even Bowser’s sporting a little six-pack.

My wife said that I look like a six pack with 2 extra cans squeezed in.making me look like an 8 pack, with an Alpaca's head😎

Poor Clarry. I hope it's not at body dismophic proportions because that would be very mentally crippling.

Great idea and great get this appointment, very very important, it worked for Ted Lasso's team it will hopefully work for us!

Played against him in our school footy.  He was good but thought he was better than everyone else !!! Unlucky not to get in an VFL list back then but like most of us, was not good enough.  At least he finally gets his chance to be in an AFL system.  Hope he helps us.
ps. A calm mind is the most lethal machete to chop the miseries of our life. We spend almost all our time listening to the things people are saying that we rarely pay attention to our conversation with ourselves. It's not always what we hear but it's our inner conversation with ourselves that shapes our life.

Well said spirit of norm smith.

I reckon when he’s killing it out there next season he mightn’t dwell on it so much. I hope so, anyways.

Clarissa would be a decent addition to our AFLW team....

Honestly this is a great get.

They talked so much about how important their ability to reset was in 21. And you could see last year when momentum turned against us we couldn't stop it.

Comments like this only serve to compound the problem.

This is a great appointment. It’s all about getting in the “zone”

Mind and Body working in unison, almost to the point where the play just happens.
Motor Racing drivers are a great example, when the reaction time is fully on, the car almost drives itself.
In ‘21 the Football Department looked to be in the “zone” most of the year…

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
