Probably broke even/slightly ahead of OMac in the ruck.

The only thing I liked about his game was he seemed to create more spacing up forward. It looked like he was leading away from congestion a couple times creating more space of Petty and our mid sized forwards. A few other times I noticed him staying very deep in the square and not leading out - again allowing for more space and improving the likelihood of scoring.

I was wondering if this was a game plan issue (which I like if so) or was it just himself not presenting and forcing mids to kick it to him (as the great forwards do).

Hard to tell. Looking forward to seeing it for another week or 2 and see how it goes.

Well said, mate. Listening to Gawn post match on 3AW, it sounded a lot like he was happy with Fullarton’s debut and appreciated the assistance he got in the ruck.

Nobody rated that dumb American and said dumb American nearly got the Pies into a GF off his own boot.

Not saying Fullarton will become a world beater, but if he gets a decent go at it and can become half as good as someone like Darcy Cameron, who I think gets underrated year in, year out, then we would be pretty happy I’d reckon.

If he does come into his own and becomes a solid contributor, it could release a lot of pressure on JVR.

Good on Tommy. I recall when he was first recruited many thought what a prudent selection he was. I get that for the past 12 months he seemed somewhat underwhelming and didn't have the imeediate impact and presence of someone like say AJ, but guess it can still take some people time to settle at a club and find that confidence.

A few other comments have alluded to the time it can take for talls to mature. Well right now Tom is at that age of 26, so maybe it's come his time.

Probably the biggest thing I'm guessing the seletors saw in him was someone who was giving maximum effort and that's not something to be underrated. If he only ever becomes a solid no frills depth key position player / ruck that is still pretty valuable for us. What if he actually makes it?

Looking forward to seeing what Tom can produce over the next little while.

Another Goodwin selection integrity error not playing Fullarton earlier?

Give me a spell

Rather play an out of form JEFFO

Nope. Without derailing this thread, Jefferson was God awful today at Casey.

I would just rather play one short.

JVR, can do ruck work at a decent level. Not that I would like him to do it but what else.

Um we did with fullo, riddle me this Dazz..selected round 1 kicked 2 in a losing side, broke his hand and has struggled since, WHERE do you see him??

Smallest looking big I've ever seen. So weak as in the ruck, didn't lead up to the ball when forward. Looked dead set scared of contact against McIntosh .At least now we know. Back to Casey then delist. Jvr or Johnson need to be in ahead of him

Staying at Casey for a long time.

On today's performance he's well behind JVR and Aidan Johnson for talls that are next in line. Has zero intensity and physical presence.

Can’t play Oscar McDoanld every week.

Back to big AJ or JVR next week please.

Felt on a bit of an island last week when I said his effort was good but he was still a ways off what we needed as a no.2. So what I say will be pretty consistent with last week.

He is not what we are looking for long term. How is Verall tracking?

I think people need to read the last page or two of this thread to see what they said last week. It borders on embarassing how people thought he was brilliant and the next big thing.

Welcome back to Earth.

Highly doubt many were saying he's the next big thing. Most were happy with with his effort in that game. Personally I just felt this game was coming so I'm not surprised.

So so to be honest.. i still see moments where I go there's talent there but 3rd year in the system now I just don't know if it will work out eventually.

Can't doubt his effort, but if he was laced against big Nank tonight, he would have been eaten alive unfortunately. Just probably lacks the edge that other ruckman have going around and if Gawn goes down, it's Campbell and not Verrall that will get a go

I think it's crucially important we add another ruck talent at the end of the year.

Thanks Daz.

Had high hopes for him in 23 when I was watching more of Casey. Really tough to get a proper read on developing ruckman early on.

Waste of space and is a liability. My understanding is that JVR isn’t keen on rucking. What are the alternatives?

Tom Fullarton. At Casey you were able to run and present and lead and showed aerobic ability. Then last night v Tigers…

Outbodied by Tigers defenders all night

Outbodied by Kaiden McIntosh in the ruck

Offered little presentation or effort to lead up

So so disappointing … wanted him to show much more after last week

3 posssessions 1 mark

Have to say he’s out and give me AJ with 100% grunt at the footy.

Three ahead of him now all with different attributes. Johnson Van Rooyen and Campbell.

I not into criticizing Fullerton but back to Casey.

Simply not an AFL standard player.

Delist at end of the year can't kick a goal or ruck. Looks like he doesn't like the contact. I'll be annoyed if they offer him another contract. Why do we think ex fringe Brisbane players will somehow click

I don’t understand why AJ is not in the team. Always creates a contest , has physical presence and is a good back up ruck.

Get him back in.

Tom Campbell was excellent for Casey and would be streets ahead of Tom.

Someone suggested this and got shouted down.

Rarely have I seen such an ordinary game talked up last week and a similar game tonight talked down. Reality is there wasn’t much difference other than he got a longer go at it so people noticed.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
