Starcevich is a massive gamble for West Coast regardless, you're always going to take on risk bringing in a player with concussion issues.

Mate I agree, its a massive gamble indeed!

Every year you can establish IQ levels by reading the draft and trade board.

He’s the same player FFS.

If he was the same player we would have got pick 12

I don’t love it but unfortunately given he’s out of contact we don’t have much leverage

We’ve always preferred to get these types of deals done early so that we can get creative with our picks

But give how the last few years have gone under Lamb, can’t say I have a lot of faith in that…

We should’ve got something closer to that, you don’t lose ability at 22 after a hammy injury. Just a down season

By the way, the eagles giving up 22 and an upgrade for Starcevich that then convinced Brisbane to pay overs for Oscar Allen is straight up corruption. Disgraceful stuff. 16 clubs should be demanding the Lions especially get investigated and punished. It’s disgraceful

And Judd should be ashamed for his part in it!

Honestly, I'm pretty happy with this. It's a good return given he was a rookie. We were never getting a first round pick for him.

Agreed I'm pretty stoked with this. Will be a handy pick to make other deals.

Freo and Judd part of this dirty deal. (Us too, but we were just eating the [censored] sandwich)

Where he was drafted is irrelevant.

Pick 23 is average regardless of him being a rookie, is this because he nominated Freo and or is Lamb poor not asking for more??

Just for the record. Last week 23 was 19 then the AFL started handing out compensation and priority picks.

23 will slide further but it will always be the first pick of the 2nd round which as I noted above, carries a premium for whoever holds it!

23 is the first pick of the 2nd rnd. Fully expect us to flip it for a future first on draft night, North paid a stupid amount for a similar draft pick this year

Freo could have given us pick 35 odd or whatever they originally had and told us to get [censored]

23 is fine all things considered

Lamb to package it up with all our other pics to jump up 3 spots and pick another WA boy or a potato.

My thinking as well. There's bound to be a slider or two that a club will want first dibs on come the second round.

Richmond made out like bandits in that trade. North's pick 2 this year for Richmond's pick 27 last year.

Fair enough trade, but great that we pushed it through so quickly.

No-nonsense Lamb, do the deal and move on.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
