I like that Guerra is from outside the footy world. A fresh and vibrant perspective. I also like that he has had time to best prepare himself for a completely different environment than what he would have been used to.

Is he PJ? Unfortunately, no one will be. But at least he’s not a ā€˜yes’ man that has lived his life inside the AFL bubble, delivering more of the same.

Viva la Revolution

Finally had a listen.

This guy's ok. Fresh air šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘

Good luck Paul...

Listening to those, I realised how low my expectations were.

Essentially getting the feeling that he wanted the job, that he has already been involved, and that talked like he knew what was happening with the two key pieces - the coach and the training complex.

I have not heard anything other than he is an empty suit so I will be upfront with that but I hope for the best and it is a good start.

Well it would be if he had started yet…

Starting to ponder whether we might have a seriously clever bloke in charge now ( well almost ). Very Schroedinger like.. started/not started .. lol

I think the so called non footy background is maybe the best aspect. To be able to assess a situation without being encumbered by "well this is how you do it" types of thoughts will I think prove key in getting us sorted.

His time sitting on the boundary as it were might have afforded him a different view than had ne been sitting among his footy brethren. He can obviously see our footy had become either underperforming or dysfunctional depending upon your bent.

What he sees is a mess/problem to be sorted and sort it he will. He's already looking to isolate Richo. Smart move. Not that he would would ever be my choice but I now get why he wanted Watson.

We as a club need to be better, different.

Very much looking forward to see what we look like on and off field going into 26.

Seems very purposeful this guy. Thats good in my book.

...And I'm now looking forward to the AFR's exposure of Geewrong's financial 'performances'.

Yeah, right...

What a junk piece of so called journalism

The board approved higher levels of spending during the pandemic despite knowing it would come at a loss and therefore Guerra is a poorly performed CEO.

The chair debunking it completely makes your point about this article spot on.

The ol’ paywall strikes again

Gary Pert was pure cant (that's not a a typo). Guerra sounds like a genuine but tactful person who already has a decent understanding of the club.

Interesting how optimistic he was about the list. I don't see it. I think he could have afforded to be more circumspect; it's OK to lower expectations. Not because we should expect mediocrity, but because the list from my perspective has holes everywhere and without an ENORMOUS amount going right. it will be incredibly difficult to make finals in the near future.

Or, is it?

That's weird. The article came up in full as I came out of the ABC News website. I'm not a subscriber. But I see that, yes, my posted link is paywalled. Sorry, all.

Try googling 'Paul Guerra Australian Financial Review'. The first couple of items after the AI one should get you in (just close the 'Subscribe' pop-up).

Caro has her fingerprints all over this.

What is with her vendetta against Melbourne? Is it purely to spook Buckley away to help Gale and Tassie?

I hate the patronising of Melb fans too in this article.

The documents are rumoured to have been authored by business-minded supporters of the once-Mighty Dees.

Curious about this line.

Such restraint, Koz! šŸ˜„

It also now comes up as the top of the Top Stories (apt word?) when googling Melbourne Football Club.

And it's being published only now when he's hosting the international business convention. It might be 'news' when it's new - i.e. when it's unearthed. But when it's held over, it's something else altogether...

I don’t really care about a touch of nepotism or the expense blow outs if they were expected.

I do care that we’ve got more snakes (not the Casey fields types) lying in wait, preparing ammunition on a CEO who is yet to even start his job.

F me. What is with our club. This is the old hit piece. For what purpose we will never now, but I suspect that like most things this is internally driven.

Smells like the perennial board challenger who has a few friends on here.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
