He systemically drugged an entire team. With or without player consent he should be banned for life.  I distrust Goody on the back of his involvement at Essendon at the time. Clearly Goody doesn’t have a problem with his best mates behaviour

Hird’s well and truly done his time. You lot carry on like you’ve never made a mistake. He’s got a wealth of football knowledge and we’re asking him to share some, hardly a big deal. Yes he majorly stuffed up and yes he never really at the balls to own it. He has however had his whole life largely ruined by the event as have many of the players who were involved, something that will haunt him till he dies I’d suspect. Essendon weren’t on their own here. Geelong, players at Melbourne and others all had dealings with Dank and received meds, I won’t name names but if you don’t know who you’ve had your head in the sand.

I'll quit my job, sell my car, throw my golf clubs into the lake, toilet paper bomb the neighbourhood, throw the toaster out the window, burn the newspaper with this on the front page then urinate on the ashes then send what's left in a rocket to the white house doorstep. 

Geez a lot of mouthbreathing in here. Hird won't be the CEO. I have no issue with the club being extensive in their search and we will end up with someone really good.

The firm leading the search for Gary Pert’s replacement told the club it contacted Hird about any recommendations he may have for the position. The Demons are keen to begin assessing a shortlist of candidates next month. NBL chief executive David Stevenson, who had stints at the AFL and Western Bulldogs, is considered a candidate. But the contact with Hird is intriguing as the Essendon champion is highly-rated for his business acumen and football knowledge. Hird, 51, was one of Essendon’s greatest players and coached the club for four seasons before he departed on the back of the Bombers’ crippling supplement saga in 2015.

But the two-time premiership player, superstar captain and five-time best-and-fairest winner has moved past the crisis and has continued to enhance his reputation in the business world. The former senior coach is the founder and managing director of Euree Asset Management and the co-founder and non-executive director of Tenka Group, a worldwide sports consultancy. Hird has also returned to the coach’s box as coaching director of Port Melbourne in the VFL alongside former Western Bulldogs’ senior coach and three-time Cats’ assistant premiership coach Brendan McCartney. Hird remains friends with Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin from their time together at Essendon between 2011 and 2014.

I can honestly tell you that I've never made a mistake. I nearly did once but then realised I was wrong and decided I’d never make that mistake again.

Always like an article that states the bleeding obvious as if it's an original thought..."The Demons are keen to land a first-class replacement for Pert..." Really? That's such an insight! Who would have thought.

Respect your opinion but for me it is as much about how he handled after it was all public rather than what happened.  He initially said as head coach the buck stops with him.  But following those words, he never took responsibility.  And then hung on and sued whoever he could despite blind freddy knowing that he had to just fall on his sword.

Maybe it's understandable that he has an entitlement / messiah complex given what he was able to do as a player - but to me he stuffed up majorly and then never took ownership and showed any remorse for his actions that caused it or the additional harm he caused by fighting it for so long.  It was all about him and he showed no awareness.  The whole thing has clearly taken an enormous toll on him and others around him which you wouldn't wish on anyone - but for me there's nothing to suggest that his character has changed (not that I could truly know from hearing him on a podcast or two in recent years).

And after what we've faced over the last few years, I think character is very important.
