It's good to see Jefferson training on day 1 and with a bit more size already. Easy to forget he spent a lot of time in the rehab group last pre-season. Looking forward to his development.

When TMac, Viney, Fritsch, Campbell, Salem, Petty, Hore & Bowey can turn up for the 1-4 year first session, it would have been a good sign to see McAdam, Billings, and Fullarton do likewise, and equally demonstrate their committment to the team and 2025.

I guess we have no idea why they didn’t . A bit early to jump on the “blame” wagon. If they all manage a full preseason & look ready to go in March ..not too fussed if they don’t come in early. We can save the criticism if it’s necessary , when we see how they are come the start of the season.

George wasn’t blaming them, he just said it would have been good if they turned up, especially given their situations.

Of course there could be good reasons why they didn’t.

I remember Greg Parke having a similar posture, never hurt his marking, he even used to emphasise it by crouching before he sprang, it was a thing of beauty

Thanks to the track watchers for these write ups. Hearing the Jeffo is filling out and looking good is music to my ears, I really hope this coming season he will be in the conversation for a call up come round one.

Also any concerns about Jonesy coming on as assistant coach have been thrown out, it can't be underestimated the moral boost and energy he will bring. Don't forget the bloke practically carried the club on his shoulders for a good few years, he knows how to motivate and lead by example. That said I'm glad he's not going to be doing the midfield line all on his own.

I keep going back to what Gawn said on Triple M a little while back, that it has felt like 2021, 22, 23, & 24 have all merged into a single season, the players were burnt out. Firstly that makes the dynasty teams look even better, but secondly it means the club simply has to take advantage of the extra preparation time it will have.

Report from Ghostwriter went to Gosch’s this morning and sent me this report…

1st - 4th year players today. Some seniors chose to attend: Viney, Salo, Fritta, Tmac, HP35.

The vibe was amazing. The sunshine and lack of wind made it even better. They all look great; trim and toned and not one of them is out of shape. You thought Vines couldn’t possibly get any musclier? Think again. Good luck trying to tackle him, oppo chumps, see you in the broken bones ward at the Royal Melbourne!

Nathan Basset already commanding much respect from the boys as well as Goody and Chocco. Very professional.

Troy Chaplin confident and decisive when addressing his charges.

Idk if Tom Campbell is any good at footying but believe me, he’s a lovely person. It’s no wonder he and BBB are besties, carbon copy right there.

Chin Chandler rocking a dramatic buzzcut. First reaction: WTF?! Immediately followed by It actually looks good.

No easing into training this preseason. No siree Bob. Straight into serious, physical drills. A lot of practice at baulking a couple of players while running into open goal. Leb puts the “Win” in “Windsor.”
He absolutely nailed it.

Woey junior super impressive when tackling, the boy simply does not let up. Brings one to ground, springs back up and takes down another one. So good to see.

Jed Adams was wearing #19 (shack attack’s body isn’t even cold yet) but it’s probably only because he didn’t have a clean #26.

Ollie Sestan looks great. Clearly hasn’t missed a single day in the gym. Seems super confident when talking about a potential debut in the offing.

Jeffo also appears way more confident compared to last season. Not afraid to go in hard. Seems more agile as well. Still needs to straighten tf up but the Quasimodo is no longer as prominent.

A slightly deranged regular was there. She gave Goody a big ‘ol bear hug and told him she’s so happy now that all that shhiitt is behind him after years of having to listen to the nasty allegations and that she’s even happier that he’s still our coach. He genuinely appreciated her sentiment then went on to praise the Demon Army. Love that guy.

Chocco the complete opposite. He showed the slightly deranged one a video he took at Ikon during the last W H&A match. He took it from above and behind the cheer squad and said the CS is too noisy and raucous and extremely annoying, in particular the slightly deranged one and that next time he’s gonna bring a bottle of water to tip on her head. She told him to GAGF. 🤣

‘Til next time, Kat. Lotsa love, your friend xxx

Hopefully she is there when I next attend a training session at GP.

She hasn't posted for a while, or at least under her old name.

I miss her.

Agree. Her insights were coming from a different direction to most of the track watchers , it felt a fair bit more personal,   like to see them again ,  anyone who didn't like them didn't have to read them,

Keyboard warriors on Demonland....never....how could such a thing be allowed.

Some track watchers, as in the past, have gone along to basically pick fault with anything they could, WCW adopted the same attitude as when I used to attend, chat to the players as human beings, surprisingly they seemed to respect that.

Training is just that, training....if there is a dropped ball or missed kick, the player will practice that till it doesn't happen again.

Looking forward to getting to see some training next month, maybe meeting up with WCW/the Ghost.  Haven't seen a match since 2010, living overseas will do that....  Things are looking good so far training wise!  Something I remember from 2021 is the team was having fun - they were having a ball and playing well.  The last couple of years it seemed like things were less fun, which probably feeds into what Max was saying.

If you listen to Max and I had a chat with him about it, because we have been successful, the pressure was on to repeat and players were not taking a proper break to refresh, physically we were there but mentally I think we were cooked, the impact of both the Brayshaw retirement and serious injury to Trac didn't help,  hence the recommendation from the review, footy is supposed to be fun.

Another person who thinks there were no problems or faults within the system maybe that's because of a lack of football knowledge or not willing to see it and admit it.

So happy to hear reports that Jeffo is filing out. Expecting a big year from him. Assume he will start at Casey but you'd be expecting him to push for senior selection later in the season.

Thanks to all the trackside reporters for your observations.

Can any of the track watchers elaborate on what Petty was doing at training? Was he running laps? Participating in drills? Last year he had the preseason from hell. Would be great for him to get an entire preseason under his belt.

Sorry chap. played the game and have watched it for a tick over 46 years, just don't look for mistakes, which happen to the best, as long as they are kept to a minimum during a game.

There were a lot more important on field issues in the last couple of years than skill errors

Can I ask seeing, that you opened the door, have you ever played, did you miss a kick, handball, tackle?....I did.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
