I'm not opposed to this, but more agnostic. I think as a club we may be better off not reinvigorating the old boys club, especially for the role of CEO (cf. President). I will state that I do think having a football background is important in the context of operating a professional football club, but don't necessarily think it needs to be an ex-player. 

Off the top of my head, there aren't many former players who have moved into the CEO role - and as of 2023 there were only seven: 

- Cook; 

- Pert;

- Hocking; 

- Kelly; 

- Gale; 

- Garlick; and

- Harley.

How  the naysayers are dancing in the aisles, not willing to praise Pert and Roffey for the work they have done in the last few years.

Pert like Roffey has done the right thing to assist the club, some clear air, there is probably a tinge of "who needs this [censored]" also.

I am pleased he is staying on board looking at Caufield, he has put too much effort into it to just walk away.

Can't wait to see how long the honeymoon period for the new permanent Chairman and CEO lasts on here.

The Age reporters have taken past comments by Petracca and current comments by him and somehow weaved it into the Pert story.

Any connection is tenuous and is mere timing.

It is really disappointing that the more reputable AFL reporters are stooping to such low tactics. 

The positive of the story for me is that Petracca is back in the public eye for the first time, performing promotional work and being interviewed.  All are important steps steps in his trauma recovery. 

I just hope that article doesn't derail this thread or bring out the anti Petracca brigade.

Agree - We need as Melbourne person for President but not for CEO.

If both are true, to an extent, then we owe him thanks for helping return the Dees to some relevance and success. 

Nothing lasts forever. CEO is a hard gig. Lots of pressure and the pitchforks come out quick.

I couldn't agree more! Chris' understanding of football can be summarized by his continuous calling for Jefferson to get a game from the time we drafted him! He may get a game early in 2025, and that is an accurate appraisal of his steady progress to reach the standard required to succeed at AFL level! Chris, unfortunately, has shown no development in his quest for acceptance as a media analyst!

If my reading of the article is correct, that is not right.  It says Petraaca made statements in his first public appearance at a Melb Cup function:

In his first public appearance since his disillusionment with the Demons became known more than two months ago, the midfielder spoke positively about the Demons’ culture.

Asked if he was happy with the culture at the club, Petracca said: “I think so. Culture is an interesting word. It’s a high-performance industry and for me we’re always trying to improve and get better.

“For me, getting people through the door is the right thing. We’ve had healthy conversations and that’s awesome. Like any industry and any club, we’re looking to improve.”
