Are there any former MFC players with the skill and experience to step into the CEO role?

I'm not opposed to this, but more agnostic. I think as a club we may be better off not reinvigorating the old boys club, especially for the role of CEO (cf. President). I will state that I do think having a football background is important in the context of operating a professional football club, but don't necessarily think it needs to be an ex-player.

Off the top of my head, there aren't many former players who have moved into the CEO role - and as of 2023 there were only seven:

- Cook;

- Pert;

- Hocking;

- Kelly;

- Gale;

- Garlick; and

- Harley.

Did you pinch it, bb ...

How  the naysayers are dancing in the aisles, not willing to praise Pert and Roffey for the work they have done in the last few years.

Pert like Roffey has done the right thing to assist the club, some clear air, there is probably a tinge of "who needs this [censored]" also.

I am pleased he is staying on board looking at Caufield, he has put too much effort into it to just walk away.

Can't wait to see how long the honeymoon period for the new permanent Chairman and CEO lasts on here.

Can you summarise the Trac part?

Don't bother.

The Age reporters have taken past comments by Petracca and current comments by him and somehow weaved it into the Pert story.

Any connection is tenuous and is mere timing.

It is really disappointing that the more reputable AFL reporters are stooping to such low tactics.

The positive of the story for me is that Petracca is back in the public eye for the first time, performing promotional work and being interviewed.  All are important steps steps in his trauma recovery.

I just hope that article doesn't derail this thread or bring out the anti Petracca brigade.

I reckon the circumstances ate our comms are dead set hopeless.

That's on the ceo, and will be my abiding memory of Pert's time at the MFC

[There's no coming back from being eaten! Except the waste products, I guess...]

I'd say there's a good chance there'll be another letter to Members from Brad on this one, possibly with the Jones acquisition, too.

Pert and Roffey gone it is what it is allow the media to speculate and devour the carcass of what is currently an easy kill.

They called for change at the MFC with the off field matters (well published) this year and last, yet when change occurs their manta and position is toward continued turmoil not change to move forward.

It’s time for the playing group and football department to knuckle down, less media and less incidents to draw further attention.  just focus on the infield side of things next season and let that do the talking.

And Chris from Camberwell if you’re on here for god sake stop getting on radio claiming to speak for the majority of Melbourne supporters, you certainly don’t speak for me and quite frankly are embarrassing most times you go to air on Dwayne Russell’s show.

Yeah - cos they just haven't been serious.

Agree - We need as Melbourne person for President but not for CEO.

Not sure how stating the facts is smug or snide.

Several posters here have noted that GP's situation was untenable since the Clarry Mk 2 saga.

I suppose waiting for yourself, Saty or KDF to admit the media got it right & GP had to go is a forlorn hope.

well cranky, if the media got it right, how about purple for pres and morris for ceo?  what could go wrong?

I'm not sure Demonland can have it both ways.

Can't pin our 'bad culture'/poor performance this year on him, then deny his role in our recent success/'21 flag

If both are true, to an extent, then we owe him thanks for helping return the Dees to some relevance and success.

Nothing lasts forever. CEO is a hard gig. Lots of pressure and the pitchforks come out quick.

Thanks for your contributions, Gary.

I couldn't agree more! Chris' understanding of football can be summarized by his continuous calling for Jefferson to get a game from the time we drafted him! He may get a game early in 2025, and that is an accurate appraisal of his steady progress to reach the standard required to succeed at AFL level! Chris, unfortunately, has shown no development in his quest for acceptance as a media analyst!

Maybe the Admins are only going to allow positive reactions so that forum members don't feel bullied if someone doesn't like their comment - seems like a smart idea

Good effing riddance!

Culture suffers everywhere he lands. Main catalyst for Collingwood’s shambolic cultural standards and was a massive part in our troubles. No coincidence that at both clubs, regardless of being successful premierships wise.

Really [censored] me off about how he publicly shopped Oliver around. Your job isn’t to list manage!

You clearly have no idea what went on at the pies, maybe educate yourself on the matter first.

Constant calls for Jefferson to play. Hmmm. Sounds like our very own picket!

So you’re Chris from camberwell@picket fence

If my reading of the article is correct, that is not right.  It says Petraaca made statements in his first public appearance at a Melb Cup function:

In his first public appearance since his disillusionment with the Demons became known more than two months ago, the midfielder spoke positively about the Demons’ culture.

Asked if he was happy with the culture at the club, Petracca said: “I think so. Culture is an interesting word. It’s a high-performance industry and for me we’re always trying to improve and get better.

“For me, getting people through the door is the right thing. We’ve had healthy conversations and that’s awesome. Like any industry and any club, we’re looking to improve.”

    The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

    The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.

  • GAMEDAY: Sydney

    It’s Game Day, and the Demons have a golden opportunity to build on last week’s stirring win by toppling Sydney at the MCG. A victory today would keep them firmly in the hunt for a finals spot and help them stay in touch with the pack chasing a place in the Top 8. Can the Dees make it two in a row and bring down the Swans?
