What's our Max Gawn replacement plan though?

Wouldn’t use a first rounder on a ruck again, unless they are a bonafide gun forward too.

Really happy with 5 and 9.   With Tassie picks I believe happening next year all our picks will drop 10 - 20 places, so not really concerned so much about losing the future ones.

We have 5 and 9 49 for Sharp.

B: Lever, May, McVee

HB: Rivers, McDonald, Salem

C: Windsor, Petracca, Langdon

HF: Pickett, Petty, Chandler

F: Fritsch, van Rooyen, Turner

FOLL: Gawn, Oliver, Viney

IC: Howes, Sparrow, Tholstrup, Melksham, Pick 5

B: Brown, Adams, Moniz-Wakefield

HB: Bowey, Hore, Woewodin

C: Billings, Laurie, Sharp

HF: Spargo, Kentfield, Sestan

F: McAdam, Jefferson, Fullerton

FOLL: Campbell, Pick 9, DFA (Parfitt?)

IC: Mentha, Verrall, DFA, Casey player, Casey player

I am keen to discuss who the Demons may choose with pick #9 in the 2024 AFL National Draft now that we have successfully obtained it from Essendon.

I am pleased Essendon saw this as a "win-win" deal so they have the Draft points to obtain Isaac Kako from their NGA. I highly doubt this deal would of been as straightforward under Adrian Dodoro.

With pick #9 in this Draft. I like the look of the following players.

● Xavier Lindsay - Who is an elite decision maker and excellent kick

● Josh Smillie - Who could be the next Marcus Bontempelli as a midfielder who is 194cm

● Harry Armstrong - A big powerful tall forward who is 195cm and is a strong mark and an accurate kick for goal

● Tobie Travaglia - who is a dashing half back flanker who could be the delayed suitable replacement for Michael Hibberd

Anyway, we will just wait and see who Jason Taylor will now choose with pick #9.

Think of it this way. Yes we’ve potentially given up more than necessary and are banking on moving up the ladder again next year.

But if we have another poor year then Petracca and Oliver will no doubt want to leave again and we’ll get first rounders for them anyway.

So we can’t lose! 🤪

I do hope some posters are going to demand a review of the list management process, we can't have Tim Lamb doing things right, what would Demonland have to 'discuss'

I think pick 9 will debut before pick 5.

Yes agree it’s a reminder of the Mahoney days. Good smart trading of picks to move up the order.   No complaints.  Let’s JT weave some magic.

Just to be clear, the call out that was frustrating was the recruitment of players like Schache (and his extension), McAdam and Billings.  The extension for Laurie for a further 2 years was highly questionable.

It's not the trading for picks or drafting of talented young players we have a problem with.

It's the trading in of spuds since 2021 like Josh Schache, Lachie Hunter, Jack Billings and Shane McAdam.

Anyway, perhaps I am too harsh and I'll be proven wrong.

I find it hilarious how riled up people get about the least important players on our list.

The same way that people are getting annoyed about giving up an extra 3rd round pick or two when trading for pick 9.

No concept of value at all.

Great draft hand now. but I'm more cautious than some posters who seem to have jumped straight from despair to elation.

Drafting is never an exact science, so it is crucial that we get it right with picks 5 and 9.

If so we would be well set up with young talent, given the compromised Tasmanian-team drafts that lie ahead.

Maybe an infusion of classy youngsters would also make Oliver and Petracca realise that another Demons flag is still possible in the next few seasons.

This thread was a lovely happy place before this post

Maybe we can have one happy thread without bringing up previous arguments or soap box topics?

Agreed. Pick 9 has a lot of potential

has been training hard.

Id personally play him HF to ease him into AFL footy

Gotta nail these picks and not be annoyed if we bomb next year making Essendon's pick a really good one. Playing a longer game.

I was thinking the same. 5 needs to earn his stripes, pick 9 complements the existing bench better.

I assume Verrall as it stands. I won't go into the my thoughts on it at length, but as blessed as we've been to have Max, my personal opinion is the ruck isn't a vital position - As in, you don't need a superstar in that position to be successful. Max is in the argument for the best ruck of all time of course, and he's somewhat unique in what he's able to contribute around the ground, but post-Max I don't think we need to replace him with another A-grader. Verrall, later picks in the draft etc, we'll be fine.

I am changing my mind somewhat after what happened in the GF, where i saw Grundy as being the difference in the game but i was sadly mistaken, Danaher was the pseudo Norm Smith medal winner in that game, purely on impact around the ground, in the air, and GF aggression.

Do you take misery pills of a morning?

Why do you even bother?  You should follow another sport as the MFC seems to do your head in (constantly)

You once told us you were a talent spotter or am I mixing you up with one of your many other guises?

But if so, who should we pick with 5 & 9, almighty one?

Because both picks are coming our way

Jeez, you really crushed me after that simple comment..

Just take it easy, you come on here out of no-where and celebrate getting this pick like we've won the premiership and then attack people who don't agree with you, maybe just dial it back a bit. No need to tell people to follow other sports or make up stuff about people.

Pffft

And my advice to you is to try and get a bit of joy out of the game and your team

You pour your misery out on others so what sort of reaction do you think you're going to get?  And learn how to talk with people not at them

Ridiculing your own supporters wins you no favours

And lose the anger

Armstrong is a bit risky. He’s a great kick, reasonable mark, but not good when it hits the deck and the unsure forward craft.

id go Lindsay or Travaglia who are both safer bets to be very good players.

Yeah but isn't it a good thing if the club is doing what we want ie. getting higher picks?

I never quite understood what you were on about with that stuff anyway

Back then I was putting a positive slant on the upcoming season and I need a walk in the sun?

Were you projecting?

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
