While now sounding unlikely we can get Wade Derksen, I think the language used suggests it is still a small possibility.

There was no definite it won't happen and a lot of respect shown for the Giants in Lamb's comments and I sense a small chance, most likely if they get Jake Stringer, thereby pushing Derksen further down the ladder.

- Tim Lamb on Harry Sharp

Lamb was really bullish on Sharp given he is a high end endurance footballer.  Holds the 2km combine time trial record 5m28secs by 20 seconds!!  Other comments addressed that Sharp can play wing or half forward, and fills a need given Nibblers departure and Hunter retirement.  He is a in a strong footy club but behind good players in Lions setup.  Lamb was hopeful.  I think pick 49 is fair (hope we can get Sharp and pick 66 back but it’s academic if Lions hold off). Lions working through their pick points accumulated to get Ashcroft & Marshall.

His 2km record is astonishing, it blows Bailey Smith and Sam Walsh's times out of the water which is insane.

I too think 49 is fair, they should just accept it.

Lions. Come on. It’s a fair deal. 49 for Sharp and 66.  Gets them extra points.  They don’t need Sharp.  He’s stuck behind too many.  He will get a fair run with MFC.  Moves into our best 25 straight up in my view. Fits the high half forward role vacated by ANB.

Just mentioned on afl radio that pic 49 for Harry is being close to being completed.

Thanks mate.

Really excited about what this means for Windsor.

Some shuffling of picks and a serious injection of pace

Is sharp quick? Or just big tank?

I know he has the record for the 2km but not sure what that says about explosive and short distance sprinting ahha

If Brisbane demand more we could swap F3s. Brisbane should think that's in their favour.  Should be able to get done.

Nailed it

If this is what happens it seems to me that we have picks 5, 9 and 83 with 3 list spots left. And maybe 4 list spots if Tomlinson doesn't re-sign.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us try something to get another pick. No idea what though.

Good call/question.  I had just assumed but all I can say, with minimal research, is that he is quicker than me.

It doesn't necessarily translate to 20m and bursts out of pack, but it translates extremely well to modern football between the arcs.

Think ANB or Chandler doing repeat sprints and return sprints over 50-150 m up and down the ground. The ability to continually cover ground at a very high cruising pace and back it up again and again.

If we're after a draftee that could cut the opposition to shreds, I'd be looking at young Wiltshire.

What a cutting comment! Can you be more blunt than that?

With picks 5 and 9 we virtually don’t have to worry about the second night of the draft. Just do your thing in the first hour of the first night JT!

Can we tell the PRODUCERS to stop the telecast after pick 9?

5, 9, Tom and Jeremy

Better than I expected

We have cover for max

We have replaced running power from ANB leaving

and 2 elite talents come in

Well, as usual we overpay at the trade table - that 3rd pick upgrade is generous - but at least it’s for a young player with upside.

I thought 49 was slightly unders myself so understand the f3 swap.

Personally I thought we should have gotten something more back from the Essendon trade.

After 3 years of recruiting ageing rejects from other clubs, we finally get a young player with upside. Sharp will hopefully be getting a game ahead of the likes of Billings and Spargo. Welcome Harry!!!!

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
