A win over St Kilda on Sunday and we’re back in the finals hunt.

I just realised we play two games in round 7???

Bizaycomment for mine. Might have been low scoring but it was an enthralling battle around the contest that was only a kick away from a lead change the last 2 quarters. As a spectacle, it was hard to look away. Every moment, every contest counted.

To me it was more like a rugby scrum

SENSATIONAL WIN! As they said upset of the year. Gall and Campbell fantastic, Hanks is back to her best, Goldrick and Chaplin were brilliant. McNamara going for AA honors. Big game against the Saints. Finals back on the agenda

Good to see them take their opportunities.

I think Campbell will be a star of the competition in the next few years.

Would love to see her settled as a forward doing some relief ruck work.

I was on the edge of my seat the whole game. We are undermanned so basically played contested footy as no way could we compete with them otherwise. Grit & determination and it got us 4 points ..sensational

We got the rub of the numbers, but there were still a lot that I thought were shocking. 50s not paid when colliding with a player taking a kick, and when holding the ball and arguing with the umps instead of giving it straight back. The "insufficient intent" against Fitzsimon was a shocker too.

The overall standard of umpiring is very poor if this is the next best umpiring squad outside of the AFL umpiring squad.

The umpiring in AFLW is hopeless but at least we weren’t shafted by the umps like we have been in other games. Our defeat against freo a weeks ago was down to the hometown umpiring. We were robbed that game.

It had the feeling of a disaster movie where the heroes are watching the lava flood coming directly toward them in slow motion before being saved in the nick of time by a helicopter.

Massive win from the Demons!!

Macca, Hanks, Goldy, Campbell and so on stood up!

Fitzy is quietly becoming one of my favs too

Go Girls!

10 games over 52 weeks and we play again in 4 days?

Someone is taking the mickey with this fixture.

Zero chance we win the next

The only upside is that the saints played yesterday, and their game before that was Friday 4/10, whereas ours was Thursday 3/10.

So we have a 3 day break (between games) to their 4 day break, but they play 3 games in 10 days vs our 3 games in 11.

Pretty horrible for all involved.

A four day break is bad, but at some stage every team is copping it.  What makes it worse for us is that it is after an interstate game at night.  That really cuts into recovery time.

No need for it to be that way, but constructing a balanced and fair draw doesn't even register as an issue with the AFL.

I thought these kind of wins might have been behind this team, with its many injuries, major list changes over the off-season and several bad losses at the start of the season. Nope. Still tough and willing to change.

What a great win.  Thankfully Adelaide couldn't kick straight, but hey!.

This was a good example of how the game has changed.  None of the outside run, handball, spectacular type stuff we have been using in the past. Suddenly our error rate drops away and we didn't give the opposition the rebound chances that have previously killed us.

Just tough, relentless, kick the ball no matter what type of football.  And it worked against a side that is just loaded, loaded with talent on each and every line.  They continue to be a dramatic outlier in the competition as a result of only one SA team for too long.  Thanks AFL!  It will be 10 years before they drop away.

We now have to continue this type of boring, un-exciting brand if we want to be competitive.  Especially with so many injuries.  Lots to be excited about, with Gall and Campbell showing plenty, and they are not going to get any smaller.  Those telling contested marks just were critical when needed.

And the backline with Goldy and Chaplin again taking critical marks and contest held out the very best.  We would have been overwhelmed by them otherwise.

Kate Hore 75 games 👏👏👏❤️💙

Sinead Taylor 50 games 👏👏👏❤️💙

A momentous win to celebrate

Stinnear has changed the game style.  Win the contest.  Gain territory.  Go again.  Tackle.  Pressure.  The multi handball over possession game is hopefully put in the bin.

2 points to 1.5 in a half of footy. Not exactly the most exciting type of footy being played atm.

We don’t know how to score, whilst the Crows can’t find the big sticks

Better than being 50 points behind at half time . What do you want? Don’t know if the surface is dewy. Commenting hasn’t said about any dew.

Well this style is based on about 3 years ago before we won our flag. With not excessive handball thank goodness.

Changed after the Essendon flogging. Very courageous and skilful to do that and it suits our smaller running on style.

I agree with most of what is said here George, but not the boring part. The girls were intense and went to work at the contest with a full team buy in. It took courage and commitment and is a lot better to watch than the dumb stuff they were dishing up 2 weeks ago. Every time Adelaide got out it got shut down. Of course goals are great and flow in the game, but that was a fight to the death. And Marks win games that’s for sure! It’s good to see players in their preferred positions thriving. Goldie is a good example of this. Certainly a game that made me proud to belong!

Couldn't watch this live but even knowing the result, enjoyed watching a fierce contest. Would have been nerve wracking live. Really gutsy win. Crows beat us in pretty much every major stat except free kicks and scoreboard. Happy days !

6 - Hanks - was in everything

5 - Goldie - fantastic milestone game

4 - Captain Kate - doing captain things

3 - McNamara - works her butt off unconditionally

2 - Campbell - easily her best game & great to see her taking marks around the ground.

1 - Banno - mainly for her non-Banno things. Defense, pressure, contest etc. Looked like she was trying to play her way out of DeeSpencer's crosshairs

Last two votes could have gone to any of a number of players. Credit to Gillard & Chaplin for shutting down the Crows dangerous forwards. Gabby Colvin is not quite back to her best off a year out of the game yet but is improving. Gall had her best game and Shelley Heath just cracks in week in, week out.

Alyssa Bannan is gunning for most improved player, given how rapidly her physical game has changed.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
