Essendon will wait until draft night to see what happens with the bid. They'll need to line up various contingencies depending on where it comes. But if it doesn't come before 9 they're laughing.

Neal Bullen and what could be a top 5 pick for what probably ends up at 16.

Its a heck of a gamble.

Effectively asking JT to really out draft his rivals.

I know the recruiters love this draft but personally I’m not seeing where the talent is off the charts at 16? Better talls in that stretch than a lot of years but otherwise?

I don’t think they’re going to have a live pick in the draft. Match Lombard and that’s it. Even still, paying with peanuts and trading back in is a better option.

One pick? They've got 10 off their list already.

Draft is alleged to be deep and strong, if they fancy someone in the early 20s that's the only way to get him and Lombard.

My guess is that's where Cooper Hynes could be around the mark.

And if the draft is as deep as advertised, pick 16 may be only marginally better than pick 31 (currently 28).

We could potentially be giving up a top 5 pick next year for little gain.

We’re not going to be the only ones after Hynes

NGL there is an element of screwing the Pies over from them getting Houston that would be an added sweetener to me. I'm bullish about us next season, as long as key players stay fitter than they were this year I see us back in the finals.

I also love the idea of our club backing themselves in to achieve success.

Would rather the Demons get Essendon's pick #9 but Gold Coast's pick #13 is appealing too.

Wish there was a way the Demons got both?! But Either of them would definitely be pleasing to go with our pick #6 in this year's draft.

Assuming the top 8 are gone: Lalor, Langford, FOS, Smith, Draper, Armstrong, Tauru, Smillie.

Plus exclude academy and Ashcroft.

Talls: Trainor, Shanahan, Faull, Whitlock x2, Sims

Med/Smalls: Hynes, Berry, Reid, Lindsay, Travaglia, Allen, Hotton, Dattoli

We’d get at worst the 5th best guy from those guys. No doubt a good player, but I think you want someone who’s got special upside and falls or is a hidden gem. Is it Hines? Is it a gamble of Hotton?

I know that but around that range he might be for us. A lot of draft rating having him around the 20 plus mark.

Our offer is clearly the best on the table, they get a strong second round pick now, and a future first that could be as high as 4-5

Of those offers, ours is the best by a distance in my opinion

Yes to berry, Reid, travaglia, Lindsay, Allen, Hotton, or Hannaford please.

trainor has concussion issues, shan and whitlocks no mongrel.

Carlton's 12 + 14 on tracc for a big signing perhaps??

[dives for the foxhole] 😁

You (Blues) couldn't fit him under your cap if he came for free. Dream on...

Apparently we're now hot favourites for pick 13.

💯

This is it in a nutshell

Melbourne is giving GC something to think about on pick 13.
The Demons have offered a future 1st rounder + pick 28.

I’m not sure about this.  Would like GC 13 & 41 picks for Dees future 1st rounder + pick 28.

What to do with pick 13 …

1/ used as late bid for Houston or

2/ after academy and Ashcroft picks, it’s likely to be pick “16” to be used for a youngster like Joe Berry, Ali’s Tauru or Taj Hotton or Cooper Hynes. (🤞but I think Xavier Lindsay will be gone at this pick)

It is always a good idea to wait until the end of list lodgement on this stuff before making full assessments on pick trades.

On face value I'd prefer we go after pick 9, but who knows, perhaps Essendon have already said you won't have enough to get pick 9. Therefore, we've gone hard at the next best option.

I'd like us to use both first rounders (if we can land it) on draftees, but I wonder if we're think 13 for Houston...

I wouldn't be entirely against it if we got a top 5 prospect on top.

At least you know what you're getting with Houston.

Total madness from an MFC perspective.... Possible pick 5 for Pick 13 and we throw in a high second round pick in what everyone says is a deep draft.

Talk about mortgaging the future

Some draft folks are saying the draft is very even. First 5-6 above but not by much. then from 7-16 at least all even and quality.

So just get more first rounders!!

Hope its 40 + F1, rather than 28 + F1

5, 13, 28 would be mint

it’s only madness if you think we’ll finish in bottom 4 or close next year

To make 13 and 28 work we'd need to finish top 3

I just watched a highlights package for each of those 8 players (and that’s about all I’ll see of them). For me Sid Draper stood out for his clearance work and kicking. Tauru has so much potential. Langford and Smillie also looked good.

It's likely 28.

Maybe GC will give us 41 back and we can package 40, 41, 49, 54 and 65 to Brisbane for 32 and 34.

Gives us 5, 13, 32 and 34.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
