Well played ladiesย

Given we down to the bare bones that was an excellent effort from the girls. Great win

I'm talking about the "fit" players on the field, they would have working within the same fitness program since the preseason. ย

Given that we don't have enough fit players to field a team and had to call in players from the Casey VFLW team this week, maybe not.

Fantastic win tonight. Players really put the footy down and linked up well. Best we've played this year.

ย

6 Hore - clearly best on, all over the ground

5 Hanks - back to her best in and around the cintest

4 Chaplin - another ripping game intercepting in defenceย

3 Fitzsimon - an absolute workhorse in the forward line and between the arcs. She covered a lot of ground and impacted with her tackling.

2 Heath - in everything as usual and seemed to play further up the ground too

1 Bannan - in and out of the game but impacted when she had the chance and her early play and goals were instrumental in the win even if she faded

Nearly as many inside the circle celebrating their first win as there are on the outside.ย

Any win is a good win with that injury list. Won't change the trajectory of the season but we'll take whatever bright sparks we can find in this year from hell.

In amongst the carnage,ย  Maeve Chaplin is having some sort of seasonย

Thereโ€™s 1 top up player who only started training with the club in recent weeks so there goes that argument.

1 late call up to the list whoโ€™s been retired for 3 years.

3 first year kids who are 19/20 and canโ€™t be expected to have developed bodies by now.

A 20 year old from Port whoโ€™s played 5 games across her first 2 years.

Their ruck is 36, the back up ruck 21. Key forwards are 22 and 20.

If you think they are on the same fitness level as the injured players:

Purcell: best mid
L Pearce: gun starting ruck
B Mackin and McNamara:ย both starting wings
Harris and Zanker: both first choice key forwards
2 more mature bodies: A Mackin, Beasleyย
And Paxy: long described as the fittest player in aflw

Then I just donโ€™t know what to tell you.

Nailed it.
Eliza Mac and Paxy are surely our fittest players. Hopefully both are back next week.

And Mackin might be a better in game runner than both. And the midfield depth just isnโ€™t up to it without Purcell.

9 out, 4 left last year.ย

Itโ€™s less than half our flag side out there.

Good win. Still think the finals are out of reach due to the debacle against Essendon. Loved Chaplin's game, Watt played her best game for the club, Hanks played her best game for a long time and Hore is a star. Love Heath in the middle a real goer. Hopefully when we get our players back we can have a good last half of the season.

ย Good win under real pressure

6 Chaplin - Four quarter effort & saved the game in the last

5 Hore - Lead from the front

4 Hanks - All class again

3 Heath - Tough as nails as usual

2 Fitzsimon - Flies under the radar a bit

1 Watt -ย  Really stepped up tonight

Good to get a win. Have to say I worried they might roll over tge top of us.

Hore and Hanks both such pure footballers. Guns

Bizarre:

4 - Chaplinย

3 - Heathย

2 - Fitzsimonsย

1 - Bannon. If she was a racehorse you'd definitely apply blinkersย

Gee, his pressers are a great listen: insightful, considered, empathetic, humble, etc, etc...

Though, unless I'm mistaken, they are, over the years, tracking the greying of his temples! Prime-Minister-ish!

Great win by the girls. I thought GWS might sneak a win at the death as our girls tired after giving it everything they had in the first three quarters but they hung in there. They tackled everything in that game, and it was great to see that effort rewarded with a win. Very gutsy effort and win.

Brilliant win.

Hore is just incredible. Hanks class. Bannan ย back to her best. Chaplin and Colvin finding their form.ย
Most importantly we stopped the dinky little 45 degree kicks off half back for a turnover, ran the ball by hand or went long down the line and won the contest. Fantastic!ย

Would love the club to try something different with Tahlia Gillard. Heaps of talent but does not have the footy smarts or ground ball skills to play in defensive 50. Could we try her forward?

Whilst on that, ground balls in D50 have me pulling out my hair every week. So often we overrun the ball or fail to rush it over the line and they get easy goals. So frustrating.

ย

โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™Gillard is definitely a key defender. ย Athletic. Strength. Direct at the footy. She has a bright future. ย She was LOST last week when playing forward after half time v bombers.ย

๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธKate Hore. ย Wow. What a leader. ย What a captain. She showed the way. ย Tough. ย Smart. Skilled. ย Just love that sheโ€™s a Demonย

โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™Maeve Chaplin. Sheโ€™s been great this year. ย Hard runner. Tackles. ย Solid and dependable. ย Another great game.ย
ย

๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธShelley Heath. So brave. ย Her shoulder could not have been right but she is tough and went in again. ย Her spirit and courage is unquestionable. ย
ย

โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธto see the debutants enjoy the win. ย With so many many injuries, we are calling on youngsters and Casey reserves top up players. ย Wow. ย What a win !! ย

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
