MFC 2024 BEST & FAIREST NIGHT

B&F later this week. Trac will be an early leader but of course it’s not going to be Trac nor Clarry this year.

Gawn and JV7 would be likely favourites at this stage.  MFC club page has provided the below: 

Max Gawn
Gawn’s star power was evident once again in 2024, finishing the season with his seventh All-Australian blazer. Only missing two matches, the veteran ruck averaged 19.1 disposals, 34 hitouts and five clearances a game, with his class a cut above the rest. He continued to shine as a leader, both on and off the field.

Steven May
Despite missing four matches this season, May continued to patrol Melbourne’s backline in 2024. May averaged 18.3 disposals and 5.7 rebounds in his 19 games this season (the ninth most in the competition), and even managed his first goal in 1361 days against St Kilda in Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

Judd McVee
McVee has quickly impressed at the Dees, playing as a defender against some of the most formidable opponents in the league. However, it was a move into the midfield at the tail-end of season 2024 that saw him rise a step above. The 21-year-old is only two seasons in, but is eager to add strings to his already impressive bow.

Alex Neal-Bullen
Neal-Bullen’s contribution to the Dees can’t be overstated, with his composure and consistency a standout. The 28-year-old was the leading tackle-getter for the Dees this season, averaging 5.1 a game, showing his courage in the contest across all 23 games. Neal-Bullen led from the front on the field, playing whatever role required for the team.

Trent Rivers
Season 2024 saw Rivers embrace a new role and cement his spot in the Dees’ midfield mix. The 23-year-old was rewarded with his best season to-date, averaging 21.3 disposals and 2.6 clearances across 23 games. The influential young leader seems to be truly hitting his stride, with his eyes firmly on further developing his craft in the years to come.

Jack Viney
No player exemplifies heart and soul more than Jack Viney. He remains one of the gutsiest midfielders in the competition, with his power, ferocity and never-say-die attitude setting him apart. The inspiring leader didn’t miss a single game this season, averaging 21 disposals, 6.2 tackles and 4.6 clearances, with every showing in the red and blue a delight for the Demon faithful.

They would be the top 6, I'd imagine.  TMac would be up there as well.  Gawn should bolt it in but the vagaries of our system (up to 40 votes per game) means missing a couple of game scan be costly.

Gawn received the most  coaches votes for us by a comfortable margin for what that's worth.

I expect either Jack Viney or Max Gawn to win the Keith "Bluey" Truscott memorial trophy for Melbourne's Best & Fairest in 2024. Either of them are worthy winners.

Best first year player should be Caleb "The Duke" Windsor.

Most improved player is probably going to be Andy Moniz-Wakefield. However, I think Daniel "Disco" Turner and Taj Woewodin could possibly get honourable mentions too.

I also expect there might be farewell speeches from Alex Neal-Bullen, Ben Brown and maybe Lachie Hunter too.

Hopefully Angus Brayshaw attends and makes a speech too. But that's up to him.

The elephant in the corner of the room will be Christian Petracca's non-attendance. But we already knew that beforehand.

Will be interesting what interim President Brad Green, CEO Gary Pert and Coach Simon Goodwin also say at the Best & Fairest event.

With all this innuendo going on it will definitely be an interesting evening with all this drama surrounding Clayton Oliver. Hopefully he shows up and clears the air about what is going on with everything.

It's times like this that I wish Jimmy Stynes was still around to galvanise the Club. I miss him. 😥

1) What is going on with Clayton Oliver? Is he staying or going?

2) What is going on with Christian Petracca? Is he happy and have his issues been reconciled?

3) Why did Kate Roffey resign as President? Was it because of the radio interview or other matters?

4) What is happening with the external reviews of the Melbourne Football Club Board and the Football Department?

5) What is required as part of the next stage of the Home Base at Caulfield Racecourse? What is the ball-park figure estimated cost?

6) What is coach Simon Goodwin going to do to turn around our misfortunes for season 2025?

 

I could go on, but I think those are the most pertinent questions that should ideally be answered.

I think Max will win it easily.

Viney had a bit of a regression year. Too many sub 20 possession games this year compared to last, and the gap between his best and worst widened this year. For example he played his best game of the year against GC only to follow up with his worst game the following week. Also went from 24 votes in 2023 to 8 votes in 2024.

Might be on my own here, but I'm not excited about this night given all the on and off field dramas of 2024.

Not on your own by a long stretch. I read somewhere recently that our club is allergic to success, I've been apathetic on the dees since about round 16 and AFL in general since about 2012.

Wrong If you are going to have all that info delivered to you on a silver platter you best drink so you can’t hear or alter your expectations. You may be given some small positive advices on some matters but this is not the forum generally for all Club matters rather than a celebration of the players efforts for 2024.

I fear as so have said before that D/Landers think this is an all embracing medium to head about Club matters. Well it ain’t !

The AFl and Melbournefc websites are compulsive reading for up to date info etc. on all other footy matters.

Is about time D/Lers got smart and realise how really narrow this forum is.  
 It resembles to be honest Trade Radio in  a lot of the posts. Then a gem or two restores your faith in this medium.

The Best & Fairest is a celebration of the players who pulled on the Red and Blue in 2024. It is a night when actual Supporters get the opportunity to mingle with the playing group and celebrate their efforts and recognition. Usually a fun night and time to reflect on past and future. Not the Whiney supporters who believe that the club is a shambles and everyone needs to be sacked, blah blah blah. These kids don’t even know that everything is screwed and that they should all be looking for another club Fortunately. Let them enjoy their night it’s not your night.!!!!

Having attended countless B&F's I can tell you that it's not the forum where any of the above issues will be raised.

The night is purely a forum to recognise the achievements of individual players.
