I’m guessing he reported on it because many nuffies like me have been sending questions to Gettable asking about his progress as a dees NGA prospect.

Some possibilities:

• The rules changed.  (I could be wrong but I thought originally the parental criteria was a parent born overseas and in 2020 that was changed to a parent born in Africa/Asia).
• MFC didn't understand the rules or the changes
• MFC is being a good community citizen if neither parent born in Africa/Asia
• MFC is being a good community citizen if he joined the academy before the parental rule change and understandably not want to 'dismiss' him from the academy.

MFC clearly didn’t read the rules !?!?!?! Anyway they need to put up a case and have the rules changed.  The AFL flip flops all the time.  NGA rules especially!!! We need more players of Polynesian heritage playing AFL !! Surely 😉

One of my grandsons was in St Kilda’s Under 15 NGA squad in 2021 when I believe the criteria were different to today because he wouldn’t fit the current requirements. I think it’s safe to assume therefore that Tairon Ah-Mu had already been accepted into the Melbourne NGA squad when the rules were changed and the club did the right thing and continued to give him the benefit of their program. It’s good PR and allows the club to retain goodwill with the player and his family and also would hold it in good stead if it lobbied behind the scenes for a change in the rules. I hope this is the explanation.

That was my thought too. When he joined our academy, he was probably eligible and, unlike the AFL, we didn't boot him out when they changed their eligibility criteria for the umpteenth time.

Very few players come out of this group but I'm guessing there will be more in the future.

Biffen Jnr is at the Dogs.Ive seen them play.

The Dees and the Blues have the best kids but at this age i'ts still a raffle.

Quaynor and Mac Andrew are the only graduates I'm aware of.

• lance collard (meth coke, drafted by aints at pick 28)
• mitch edwards (flagmantle, drafted by geelong at pick 32)
• tew jiath (dingley, drafted by the filth at pick 37)
• luamon lual (footscray, drafted at pick 39...one before the cut off...by the peptides)

i'm assuming there's more as well, but those ones are quite well known, especially mac andrew and luamon lual by dint of where they were selected - respectively, high up, and right before the cut-of where clubs could match

You must put your “kahunas” on the line.  The AFL needs to recognise the multi cultural pathways to include Polynesian origins.  Melbourne Storm pathways shows 30/32 kids in their under 16s/under 18s are of Polynesian background.  Yet AFL is failing in that cultural group and you fail to recognise the role model and development benefits of this ethnicity. AFL created academies for strong Northern state clubs like Swans, Giants and Lions. 3 of the top 5 clubs. Yet restrictions on other pathways for Melbourne based clubs.  Dees need to beat the war drums to get Polynesian kids included under NGA.  Not just for this kid but for others to start to come through.

Leaving them out is also admission of being a global warming denier.

IF we think this kid is AFL material, we should go hard for a rule change or an exemption, given the widely held view, that we have been the most disadvantaged team ( re Andrew ) of the NGA rule changes.

i think we all got excited about ah-mu, but i would assume the club has known for some time that he wasn't eligible to join us

Well those rules were changed pretty quickly twice.

An exemption, IF we were desperate to get him, would be an easier thing to get.

It may well be that we don’t consider him an AFL standard recruit and so are not fussed.

I emailed the MFC outlining my concerns and requested they have dialogue with the AFL.
