Wade Derksen

Looked good last night against Brisbane.

I can see why we were interested in 2024. I’d imagine we would’ve still been interested in 2025 if we were able to trade May off the list.

E Hollands is a very talented player (with known issues) but if I were Carlton I’d go with Derksen.

If Motlop is put on the Long Term Injury (LTI) list then both E Hollands and Derksen can be signed up. That is what I anticipate will happen.

Derksen looked good out there last night.

Perhaps some circumstances finally swinging Derkson's way.

Carlton re-listing Elijah Hollands would cost them thousands of memberships - the Carlton rumour mill knows well enough and there's disquiet about him even being around the club on the VFL list.

I mean, there can be multi-season bruhahahas about Melbourne's culture, but Carlton's issues are just as well known even if they aren't rehashed in compilation videos every three months.

Think you will find the complete opposite on this.

Carlton supporters know hes got enormous talent and want to see him succeed as a player. If he gets a gig then its because hes worked incredibly hard (which he has) and put in the work off field.

Fair enough alternate perspective. I guess both can be entirely true given how divided Carlton are at the moment / the last twenty years.

I guess my interaction with the Carlton world leans towards the 'we must reset our culture whatever the cost' group, while the other side of the coin is 'we just need a couple more high quality players to reach the critical mass of a complete team'.

It reaches an acute point with the run of father-son selections, the Camporeales, Harry Dean and prospective Cody Walker. Do you try to rebuild the list and culture urgently, to give these kids the best possible environment, or do you try to hold onto the mature players and some 'difficult' players long enough to also ride this wave of young talent?

Surely we’re looking at him after clearing some space in our loose-list cap over the offseason?

2 Free Fors?

That's how they count at Carlton. Wun too free for.

I think 'FORS' is the statistical acronym for creating a forced turnover against your opposition.

Anyways, Derksen will get a slot in the senior Carlton list. A bit harsh for Will White (who was good towards the end of last season) but the Blues need tall defensive cover more than a small foward and list spots are at a premium.

He is no good, we have dodged a bullet here

Congratulations to him. After the shabby treatment dished out to him by GWS I wish him all the best.

Happy for him, he was destined to be one of those players that would just float around and never get his chance. Glad he's getting it now. The way GWS treated him was a great example of poor people management, there was no reason to keep him around at GWS but I reckon he would've got games for us last season.

I am stoked for him.

I was one that was desperate to pick him up as I thought he would have made the transition to senior footy pretty seamlessly having watched him absolutely dominate VFL level.

Watched him against the Lions the other night and he was in their top 5 best players easily playing down back.

He will play senior footy this year and play well.

We’ll regret not making a spot for this guy.

The duality!

Will be interesting to see how he goes this year.

Curious how things would have transpired here if we moved May on in a trade after last year.

The other comment is referring to Elijah Hollands

We well may, speaking of whom, probably needed to be replaced.

The Blues took Derksen even with Weitering, Farrell, Dean and McGovern among others.

Maybe Jacob Blight could be looked at and possibly AJ could also be developed as key back depth, if they feel Adams is not going to make it.

It is an area for us to look at with May and Tom Mc not part of next year’s planning and Lever entering his 30’s.

Interesting that he played the NTFL season.

Surprised that more young delisted players or even VFL players don't take that route in an attempt to show off their wares

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
