Geeze GWS burnt this kid last year by holding onto him

Big time.

Disgraceful actions.

Seems like nobody is interested in him. Is this a case of us being keen last year, watching him closely in 2025 and deciding his VFL form just wasn't up to scratch?

I'm not convinced we'd look at our list and tell ourselves - "Nah, we're right for KPPs now."

Might be a case where he could be a SSP signing if, as expected GWS delist him. Come back sign for Casey or another VFL team, tell him if a tall goes down over the preseason he's in with a shot, no promises.

Apparently to do with the serious injury he suffered this year.

Really feel for him.

Sad to see how this has all ended. Really do hope we pick him up for free in the draft.

Tim Lamb said today they had cooled off Wade as he would be surplus to requirements due to the rapid rise of Disco and also have high hopes for Jed Adams

Adams is in a contact year and also the right age to be physically ready to compete. I don’t think he’s much chop but he needs minimum 15 games to play through some mistakes and find out. Otherwise his development will stagnate and/or he’ll head to another club.

Disco is a lock.

Lever, Petty, T Mc and maybe even May for the remaining spot.

I liked Wade because he could play both ends but Mihocek is the guy to structure around up forward and we’ve got 3 young guys, big AJ, Melksham, maybe some Petty. So it’s covered.

Time to start churning the list with some high upside youth.

I think our tall defensive stocks are in good shape at the moment.

Disco, Lever, Petty, T Mac, May and Adams is a pretty deep depth chart.

Howes, Bowey, Salem and AMW for our medium/smalls. McVee obviously a loss.

I think our defence is middle of the road at worst.

Agree re Adams. I've not seen much to be enthused about even at Casey but hopefully he gets solid game time next year. I'd rather he get games than May who we look likely to retain.

So, will this then mean that we will not have a look at Leek Aleer?

Hopfully blue skies for Wade, gee GWS were very average in the way they handled him

Agree PF, they were extremely callous in the way they treated him.

Wouldn't clear him or play him.

Carlton a good fit for Wade may he prosper.

I'm a little surprised we keep dealing (or will in future) with GWS.

They did super well out of us with Bedford who's turned into a fine player (worth more than the pick 44 they gave us), refused to release a player to us who proceeded to play a grand total of 0 senior games the following year and paid way below market prices for Clarry.

Yes I get any club would have fleeced us for Oliver, but still....

There was no market for Clarry. we offloaded him to the only team prepared to take the risk.

was name dropped by jpsh gabelich tonight as a watch this space for a spot on the list with hudson okeefe still rehabbing an acl from last year he could be moved to inactive, nick haynes needing ankle surgery and starting the year late (only r3ish is the current update) could also encourage them to make this move

Was some chat last week about his chances of promotion to their senior list via the mid-season draft. If this scenario comes off it would be a left field, blindside, Bradbury move.

He’s a terrific left foot kick….I’m enthused about that.

47. Wade Derksen

Sign him up. The former Giant – who is a train-on player – was one of the Blues’ better players in the back half, in a defence missing Jacob Weitering and Nick Haynes. Derksen didn’t look like a player who had never played an AFL game, taking some nice intercept marks and getting in important fists.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
