I also noticed when the players ran onto the ground Koz was one of the first out of the race but then stopped and turned around and gave every player a mid 5 (A waist high High 5) He may well be homesick but he's 100% invested. I love him and having him leave would be like when we lost Farmer, the club just can't let it happen.

Yeah I lean towards what you said. Keep him for another year at least but in that time just let him play his natural game, communicate how important he is for the team and we can build a team around him. More money on a contract extension? Sure, let’s talk.

We also have an issue with 100 game players:

Kozzie, Rivers, Spargo, Sparrow are our 100 gamers.

If we let Kozzie go then that bracket is extremely bare. Spargo and Sparrow are role players and that’s all. They won’t win us games. Rivers is definitely a bracket (or two) above those two but his ceiling is way lower than Kozzies.

Kozzie is a superstar.

Our list by games:

200-250 - 5 players

150-200 - 7 players

100-150 - 4 players

50-100 - 5 players

0-50 - 24 players

Kozzie is heading towards being a top 10 player in the league ... especially if he is used for the bounce downs and then forward (need to isolate him)

And if that happens he's irreplaceable so we'd need a King's Ransom

So he's an obvious keeper unless we got an offer too good to refuse

So in terms of long(ish) contracts, we were very smart in re-securing him in April 2023 (otherwise Kozzie would have been out of contract at the end of 2023) Phew!

It’s decided. He’s staying. I’ll call Kozzie tomorrow and let him know.

I agree with others that we should put a big front ended offer in front of him. Until Freo know if they will land Chad Warner or not they may not be in a position to make Kossie as big an offer.

He’s pure class when he’s up and about, be gutted to lose him.

Might need 4 finals this year. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Well hang on, TR-A'B

Doesn't an 18 & 5 record guarantee a top 4 spot? haha

If he goes, get 2 or 3 strong 1st-round picks, use them on Matt Rowell or Harley Reid.

Koz, let's redo your contract, How's 9 million over 7 years sound? Personally I think he's the clubs most important player.

That would be madness.

Take a look at Clarry, JUH, Naughton, Mac Andrew, DeGoey, Hipwood, Max King and a host of others since they got the big money, none of them are anywhere near there earlier form.

it will be interesting to see what happens in the wake of brayshaw's forced retirement due to concussion, and the cost that it's going to have on our salary cap for years to come, as to whether or not it means that clubs will be more reluctant to hand our these incredibly long contracts for players, not to mention the propensity of players going off the rails affecting their form following the signing of 'lifetime' deals

Maybe, maybe not.

The AFL will change them on the fly as usual.

He’s a must keep and the brand of footy we played yesterday suits him.

Also, I don’t get the attraction of freo for kossy. They seem incapable of developing a winning culture there. I reckon the eagles will get their act together and win a flag before freo.

Just can’t lose Koz, no matter what, offer him the farm but he’s too important and reckon he likes his club too.

God I hope we can hang on to him, would rather keep him than any of the options for a trade, even H Reid, although that would be bitter sweet.

Do you really think that the WA clubs are going to just offer him a 2-3 year deal?

He's going to be offered the world. This is just how it is for elite players now.

Time to stop being so nice and get ruthless: Koz, you’re our most valuable asset and under contract, absolutely no trade unless it’s the most generous coming back our way in AFL history

I'm with Greeny on this one, fhk em.

3 first rounders or look elsewhere.

They know what time it is now!

Why would he even contemplate a trade to play for the most uninspiring coach in the league.

A culture of losing in their whole existence in the AFL.

A coach on payroll with no set stability in his future why would you want to go to a club like that Kozzie? they are building to nothing.

You are the face of the Dees, driving us forward your the big dog in the yard now taking hangers, kicking bags and racking up the stats.

8 year deal at 1.2m a season do not even hesitate MFC.

If LDU is raping Norf for 1.3 then Kozzie is worth twice as much.

I hope we turned the corner yesterday.

Get Jeff to talk to him about his move to Freo but then. Maybe Kossie might forget about it then??

Surely that's already happened. Freo are a terrible club, bereft of spirit, poor of heart and weak of mind.

I still reckon he wants to go at the end of the year. Unless there are top 2 x 5-8 draft picks on offer, which there wont be, I cant see a deal for picks. I still think Luke Jackson is massively in play and that is about the only swap that's realistic.

I still think even if a it’s a swap deal with dogga we’re still getting a 1st rounder back, absolutely no ifs or buts about it.

Seems a lot on here are assuming a lot.So many ifs and buts,No one knows so leave it alone until something happens. No more conjecture without proven facts

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
