Doesn’t ever seem to be a problem for some teamsĀ

I really hope Kozzy stays it would be a very bitter pill to swallow loosing both he and LJ to flogmantleĀ

It will also be devastating for many young demon supportersĀ

Would also be devastating for someone like Ricky Mentha as well, who you would imagine would treat Kozzy as a leadership figure.

Surely they have a growing salary cap issue…

Darcy and Jackson on big money. Young with a massive deal. Amiss, Treacy, Cox also all on big money. Serong.Ā

Then they go bring in Bolton, going after Warner and Kozzy. And at the same time have a six year deal in front of Brayshaw. Don’t see how they’re affording all of it.

We hold all the Ace cards with Kozzie Pickett is contracted until the end of 2027, period. If we do decide to entertain the trade for Kozzie at the end of the 2025 season. I can assure you we will be asking significant draft capital in return with nothing coming back to them.

What really annoys me,Ā Fremantle had three early first draft selections in 2019 to draft Kozzie. Liam Henry was preferred for Fremantle and has not performed to the expectations of a number 10 draft pick.

However, I am sure that Matt Whelan will be working closely with Kozzie behind the scenes to ensure he stays with us. Players like Kozzie Pickett and Cyril Rioli don’t come around very often. However, Geelong did so well to get Tyson Stengle (Free hit) and has kicked 126 goals in his last three seasons.

If you review Fremantle's recent trade history, Fremantle gave away significant draft capital for Luke Jackson 2 first rounds and an early second round pick at the end of 2022. Fremantle gave away 3 First round picks for Shai Bolton for a player that Richmond did not want and off their salary cap.Ā Cam McCarthy, Harley Bennell, Nathan Wilson, Rory Lobb, Jesse Hogan. None of them (Cam McCarthy, Harley Bennell, Nathan Wilson, Rory Lobb, Jesse Hogan) were the same player once they got to Fremantle.

backended, backended, forwarded, forwarded, backended deals up the wazoo

also expect fyfe, walters, possibly o'meara - whose deal they inherited from the hawks, i assume - and pearce to retire within the next year or so, which will free up a lot of cap space

my thing against them is are they ever going to actually achieve anything? they're consistently mid-table with the occasional dalliance with the top 6 on very rare occasions

Pretty sure Henry was just a matched bid. They took Serong and Young with the picks they had before Kozzy.Ā

Rather than significant draft capital I really wish we'd demand Josh Treacy (or to a lesser extent Jye Amiss) who looks ready to take the league by storm as potent goal kicking key forward. Freo's season went down the toilet after Treacy went down.

Freo need to give up something big in order to receive something big. The price has to be expensive for a contracted player.

The way Freo dropped off late in the season without Tracy shows just how valuable he is. Always had the talent but their were massive questions on his desire to work hard to meet his potential, which he very clearly sorted and is now flourishingĀ

as much as they say that andy brayshaw is going nowhere, his signature on a contract remains elusive

How could they afford him? They're the Fremantle Dockers ffs not Real Madrid.Ā

clubs move the total value of contracts around the years that they're in all the time

only two clubs i can think of have got stung and had to move players out as a result; the peptides in the early 00s with caracella, blumfield. and heffernan, and the filth around 2020 with treloar, aish, and even grundy to a greater / lesser degree

i imagine oppo fans ask the q of us with petracca, oliver, brayshaw, lever, may, langdon, jvr, and pickett on long-term contracts

Luke Jackson and Jai Amiss anyone?? or Andrew Brayshaw and another??

Yeah, Harley Reid seems like a fair swap if Freo don't want to let go of Andrew Brayshaw.

Not so keen on AB, RBG, cos apart from our bloke being a one off, there is two other very nice options there.

Aside from the romance of the family connection, is Andy Brayshaw going to make us better?

I’d say no.

Langford and Lindsay offer something different and that’s going to serve us better.

Jye Amiss is a true WA boy. No way would he agree to a trade into Victoria.Ā

They're building a forward line around him for the next decade.

If Kozzie were to go I would love either Hayden Young or Caleb Serong if at all possible.

Failing that, perhaps Murphy Reid with picks could be an alternative.

We're lucky we have him contracted until 2027 to give us leverage.

Hopefully he just stays with us.

He just signed a new deal last year. But Treacy is the one we should be getting in the ear of. Freo have signed up a lot of their best players. And Brayshaw is tipped to re sign. So the cap must be almost bursting. Fyfe and Walters OOC this year so will give them some more cash to play with.Ā
if I was them I’d be trading Darcy. Give Jackson the solo ruck role and watch him be the best ruck in the league in next few years.Ā

Exactly. Pav is still a Woodside employee (amongst other players).Ā

Contracts don't seem to worry anyone these days. Dees need to play hard. Freo need to give up something decent or wait till free agency in 2028. The club doesn't owe any player an easy option out no matter what. A contract was signed so bad luck as far as I am concerned.

Why are we talking about Kozzie, doesn’t he play for Port.

Darcy is now on a contract that most wouldn’t touch.

Takes 1 mark a game and kicked 4 goals in a season.

Slow, heavy, injury prone, can’t play forward and 6 more years at about $1m a year.

Enjoy your time at the Dockers Sean.

A Freo supporter on Bigfooty alleges Kozzie had a meeting with Longmuir and he couldn’t have reached for the exit door quick enough.

Hopedully there is a semblance of truth to that.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom CampbellĀ with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprenticeĀ Will VerrallĀ who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
