I really hope the club comes out and spanks Freo. That would bring me great joy. Has a club who has achieved nothing ever been so cocksure itโ€™s time is close. A couple of injuries, a drop in form and theyโ€™re out. We know that they know that they are no certainty to play finals.ย

They are going from a club I barely think about, to one I dislike.

They can have him for 3 top 10 picks. Look what they paid for Bolton.

The most unlikeable club in the league.ย

The AFL community unfortunately has had a Jedi mind trick played on them that compels them to think Shai Bolton is a better player than Koz.

Which would make taking a lesser return even more infuriating.ย

This should be seen as tampering, and player/club warned before sanctions for subsequent instances.

i actually see it as more of a "hes a great player of course wed love to have him".

We need to be doing this more, even if its true or not.

"Butters? we love him, awesome player, of course wed love to have him at the dees.

off the record - we're gonna offer him a contract ;)"

โ€˜Have to do my timeโ€™: Pickett breaks silence on trade reports

Choice quotes:

Pressed on whether heโ€™d like to move to Perth to play for Fremantle, Pickett added: โ€œIโ€™m still contracted at Melbourne.

Asked whether his text messages specifically outlined a desire to play for Fremantle, Pickett said: โ€œI just text like general friends. Iโ€™m pretty close with some of them.โ€ย

โ€œBeing away in Melbourne, thereโ€™s always a bit of homesickness but Iโ€™m still contracted and I still have to do my time there,โ€ he said.

โ€œWe always have open and honest conversations. To be able to express myself and express my homesickness as a part of that relationship means weโ€™re pretty close.โ€

โ€œHave to do my time thereโ€

Heโ€™s checked out.ย

Yikes

Perhaps it was just a poor choice of words on his part (I remember Petty saying something similar in the 2023 off season before resigning) but gee itโ€™s not a good sign is itย ย

Love your work @Roost it farย but itโ€™s head in stand stuff to not think heโ€™d be at Freo right now if he had the choiceย

But he doesn't and he realises that. And judging from the training reports and video footage he has NOT checked out.

FULL TRANSCRIPT: Kozzie Pickett breaks his silence

Reporter: Youโ€™ve been linked to a move back to WA. There are reports around that you want to come to Freo and youโ€™ve already been texting some boys. What do you make of those reports and do you want to head back to Perth?

KP: โ€œIโ€™ve got friends. Iโ€™m allowed to talk to them I guess. Iโ€™m contracted at Melbourne. Iโ€™m having fun there and I love it at the club."

Reporter: So thereโ€™s no truth to the fact that you want to come to Perth?

KP: โ€œIโ€™m still contracted at Melbourne."

Reporter: There was a rumour around that you were maybe trying to come back at the end of last yearโ€™s trade period and that you were a bit homesick. Was that true as well?

KP: โ€œBeing away in Melbourne, thereโ€™s always a bit of homesickness but Iโ€™m still contracted and I have to do my time there."

Reporter: Can you take us inside that conversation you had with Simon Goodwin and speaking a bit about that homesickness?

KP: โ€œWe always have open and honest conversations. To be able to express myself and express my homesickness as a part of that relationships means weโ€™re pretty close."

Reporter: So those text messages to your friends, have you expressed a desire to specifically come and play for Fremantle?

KP: โ€œI just text like general friends. Iโ€™m pretty close with some of them."

Reporter: Thereโ€™s been a few social media posts about a potential move to Fremantle that accounts linked to your name have liked and been associated with. Do they belong to you?

AFL spokesperson: โ€œI think heโ€™s already answered that one.โ€

Never said he didnโ€™t ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Footy players can want to play elsewhere but still show their best on field and I expect him to do exactly that this seasonย

While I think he probably didn't choose the best words, I think saying this puts to rest trade talk for this season unless we get an absolutely monster deal.

I'm hoping the club hold him to the next 3 years and if he wants to leave after then so be it.

It's also important to remember a lot can change in 3 years! He may end up being really happy in Melbourne and choose to stay, you just don't know.

Nah pretty hard to check out for 3 years and by than he will be the best small forward in the game and still worth 2 firsts and a player, so we will be fineย

ย

Hope the club plays hard ball. JUH, Pickett, Tim Kelly, Horne Francisโ€ฆย

Really sick of these entitled prima donnas being home sick in a professional domestic league. You agree to sign a contract or get drafted, do the time and donโ€™t engage in off field nonsense like telling people you are leaving or crying over missing mummy.ย
ย

I have friends, family who work overseas in varying continents- mainly Asia, Africa and NA. The only means of communication they have with family is (a) during specific holidays like Christmas and Easter; or (b) via FaceTime and even then, due to time differences, they sometimes go a LONG time without speaking to loved ones.

Then you see these so called professionals crying about being 5-6 hours away from family at the most with how easy domestic flights and travel is. Absolute soft ctns.. ๐Ÿคก๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

He will be a restricted free agent, which is handy because it will give us flexibility.

If we have a shocker and he leaves we could get a first round pick after our first, or we can choose to match and force a trade.

No point stressing about it now, we hold all the cards for the next 2 years and then after the third we can see what happens.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
