Team Vs Crows

How about Wheatley at FB ? Move Chopper onto the second key forward now that Rivers could be a long term absentee.

Send Wheaters a compilation of Dustin Fletcher's best defensive work and I'm sure he'd learn from it. They're remarkably similar in build and both have Go Go Gadget arms. And they both kick a country mile.

Put a couple of heavy hitters next to him and Wheaters might finally find his position at the MFC which he has struggled to do to date.

This season's belly up already. Time to use some imagination.

I like the lateralness of this.. not sure of its validity.. but cetainly worth a go.. at least he can kick !!!. be able to clear the first hurdle of "kickin barriers"

Yep Jaded..wth ya.. Col to CHF.. i think i proferred that soemwhere else with mixed replies.. but its worth the try I think. leave Neeta at FF he has to take the No1 back then.

another week..another roll of the dice

go Dees !!

Brock McLean named on the bench...

I know it's probably me being paranoid, but why can I foresee a late change with McLean pulling out of the team in the last minute? :(

I thought the exact same thing  Hopefully they're just easing him back into it. If he is a late withdrawl and I miss his 50th game, I will flip out like a ninja on crack !!!

I can think of only a couple of reasons for him being on the bench

1) he's not 100%

or

2) to confound the match ups at the first bounce.. see who goes with whom...and then exploit the gap/mismatch.

as the second seems to be a tactic not employed by Danners I can only conclude its the former...which carries more credibility...unfortunately.

Is there anyone in our starting 22 this weekend who is capable of replacing Neitz? We are one injury away from having a dysfunctional forward setup and on the surface it looks like there isn't any urgency to solve the problem.

Also three talls out for three mobile players confirms the team selection screw up from last week.

So basically, nothing out of the ordinary will happen on Saturday.

You just wanted to use that ninja smilie, didn't you? ;)

CB, Wheatley on the wing would be great, if we weren't already 3 defenders down with Rivers, Whelan and Holland. Adelaide have a couple of mid-size forwards who tend to play well against us, and who are a great match-up for Wheatley.

This is how I'd like to see the backline line-up:

Nathan Bock - Bell

Chris Knights - Frawley

Scott Welsh - Bizzell

Ian Perrie - Wheatley

Mark Ricciuto - Carroll

You got me. I love the ninja, and he never gets used. Poor little bugger hahaha

It will be different to an ordinary Saturday; I'll be wearing pants with my scarf. Or maybe the other way around. I forget... -_-

Backline looks about right. Here's hoping it takes Roo a while to get into a groove after being out so long! Welsh is the worry there. He always tears us a new one, and is in good form. Bizzell isnt the most accountable defender.

if its a particularly even year can you get in on 11 and a good percentage? lol

Well we have FANTASTIC percentage, and definitely look like winning 11-12 of the remaining 13 matches, after losing 9 in a row... :( How depressing!

Fwiw I doubt Rivers and Holland would have been playing in the same team anyhow.

Sure they could. Holland to take a gorilla forward, Rivers to take a lesser built forward or play the 3rd man up. Happened all of last year to good effect. Now all we need is Rivers back on the park. Don't mind about Holland missing at this point...

Lord Travis, I didn't say that they couldn't play in the same team - in fact I'm sure I've posted suggestions for particular weeks where they're both included.

Referring to Jaded's comment that Wheatley should play in the backline because we are down three defenders this week (incl. both Holland and Rivers) I simply stated that I doubted Rivers and Holland would have been playing in the same team even if they were both fit.

Who is the gorilla forward in the Adelaide team? I don't see one, and thus there'd be no reason to play both Holland and Rivers. The fact that Holland has been omitted even though Rivers is out reinfoces my point.

Big match against the Crows at the MCG - Robbo at CHF and Bizzell at CHB - sounds vaguely familiar but I can't put my finger on it ...

Danihers career has officially gone full circle

I would like to have left Dunn in and run him and Bate as dual CHFs for some variety. It seems hard for him and Miller to exist in the same forwardline.

Still, not unhappy overall.

Is Dunn's future is the forward line?

I would think the footy department is trying to mould him into a Cameron Bruce or Chad Cornes type player.

I agree.

I think the FD has seen he has limited potential at CHF for various reasons.

I have said already on this post I agree with him being dropped. unlike other players droping a player like Dunn is not a big deal. His output hasn't been great, he is playing a new position, a run at sandy fits the bill nicely.

I think Neitz/Robbo swaping at CHF/FF is our best option at the moment, with bate to provide a few leads up the ground.

Bizzell at CHB is a concern. He wasn't good enough for a spot two weeks ago and now a KPP?

I guess the match-ups might look like this:

Carroll - Perie

Bizzell - Welsh

Bell - Riccuto

Frawley - Bock

Big test for all those players.

If Bizzell plays on Welsh as you suggest, he isn't playing CHB, so not as a KPP.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
