Well finally some good news. Luke Darcy one of the worst commentators in a very strong field apparently stepping away from the media.

    Apparently Butters played his finals with a cracked rib...scans initially cleared him after the Geelong game.

    Apparently the games toughest player now, when a couple of weeks ago had his courage questioned.

    I would actually be interested to know whether anyone who follows footy respect or have any positive thoughts about these football media reprobates such as Barrett, McClure et al. Their opinions are worth no more than the average punter but they get these media gigs and seem to lack any charisma or personality that I would have thought would be required for such a role. Surely there must be better options out there?

    Had to turn off a trade radio podcast about the Dees today, listening to Barrett talking about Melbourne.... it's almost like he's too slow and old to be a gutter journalist like McClure or Morris, but he's still just absolutely trashing everything about Melbourne. The only good part about the segment was that Bickley was actually a lot more measured, but I think I heard 2-3 minutes and realised the best piece of journalism outta Damo's mouth in the last year has probably been one of his 'recipes' that he talks about on the Sounding Board podcast. 

    It's like everyone else including some of the [censored] have moved on, and his brain has only discovered it was newsworthy two weeks ago!

    I listened to that live.

    He doesn’t provide any information, just chimes in with “I’ve heard” and “in my opinion” he has gotten lazy and complacent. 
     

    All he offers now is abit of light humour on triple m Friday and Saturday and thats it.

    Add Baum 💩 [censored] article   … why reference Oliver.  The title is a joke.  Theres lots of other examples of messy trade talk and other examples this year.  MFC IS always a soft target.  


    A lot of NRL fans and insiders hate the open ability for players to sign for other clubs 12 months ahead. It’s a horrible scenario having to develop a player but then know in 12 months that they are off to your competition. You’d rather a player committed to your team.

    It is beyond ridiculous and HQ has to be at least tolerant of it continuing as they do stop a lot of things getting into or being discussed in the media. As long as Houston gets to Collingwood or Carlton hey?

    Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver has reportedly “cleaned out his locker” and is willing to take a pay cut to force a move away from the club.

    The Demons have consistently said Oliver isn’t up for the trade, but more information continues to come to light about the on-baller’s intentions to try seek a trade to Geelong.

    Speaking on 3AW Mornings, Matthew Lloyd says Oliver still wants to before next Wednesday’s deadline, labelling the situation an “absolute mess”.

    There’s reports over the last 24 hours that he still wants out despite Melbourne saying they’re not trading him,” Lloyd said on 3AW.

    “A lot people believe that he’s cleaned out his locker and he’s willing to take a pay cut, he just doesn’t want to go back there.”

    it hasn't gone away. He still desperately wants out. And the Cats will try something before Wednesday night's trade deadline. Whatever the outcome, this club cannot continue with Gary Pert as CEO.

    Taking it back to general media pile-ons, I suspect it is going to be a very rough few weeks for the Hawks after their pair of high-profile young small forwards - one a teenager and the other recently traded to them for cheap due to attitude and having his illicit consumptions make it onto social media - cancelled their attendance at a kids footy clinic at the last moment because they were hungover (+?) after the Hawthorn Best and Fairest night.

    You'd think he'd ease up on the drinking at least, after the massive amount of his own bathwater he publicly consumed prior to the semi-final.

    Haaa ha ha ha haa haa haaaaaa obviously I'm joking there will be no consequences.

    He's a 'cheeky character who enlivens the game'.

    Just when I thought the media had reached its absolute lowest form of toxicity, came this piece from Michael Wa**er in yesterday’s little paper.

    The article opening sentence:

    "Melbourne's off-field crisis has deepened with former vice-president and insurance industry heavyweight Geoff Freeman declaring his interest in a takeover of the club's embattled board."

    states that the former club VP, Peter Freeman, “who is close to star midfielder Christian Petracca, confirmed he was giving ‘serious consideration’ to a run for president amid ongoing turmoil at the club”.

    Freeman also is quoted: "I will do whatever is best for Melbourne - we need to resolve all of our outstanding issues and we need to do it quickly."

    "I have a lot of respect for our current president, …"

    The bloke has expressed an interest in taking part in a democratic process which, if successful, would lead to his taking over from the current caretaker president. That’s what often happens in the AFL and, in fact, it’s happening at a couple of other prominent clubs at the moment.

    So why the dramatics suggesting that Freeman's act of throwing his hat in the ring is causing a deepening crisis? 

    That seems to be deeply disrespectful to Freeman (who I do not know) and to the Melbourne Football Club.

    Would Collingwood get this sort of treatment from the media in such circumstances? After all, the Magpies are about to undergo a major overhaul at the top with the imminent replacement due to ill health of President Jeff Browne by a previously unknown (that’s what I was told by a Magpie fan who won’t be able to vote on the choice). Does that herald a deepening crisis at a club that failed to make the finals just one season after winning a premiership, a club where the circumstances of the defection of football boss Graham Wright to Carlton after swanning around the world for half a season should be raising eyebrows and when chief executive Craig Kelly is embroiled in an unfair dismissal claim by a former club employee? And according to my mail, there might still be some whiffs in the air about the racism debacle that affected them recently. 

    And I won’t start on Essendon and it’s cultural issues.

    Let’s just continue to pile on one club even when a potential and possibly worthwhile candidate for club president emerges.

Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

      The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
      Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
