Not sure if there was a specific thread re the North speculation so will pop some news here.

On today's gettable episode they stated Jack is in talks to have a contract extension at the dees and won't leave melbourne.

"He's melbourne through and through."

Bloody oath he is.

Yep I heard the same that he turned down the offer.

Contract extension though did raise an eyebrow. Doesn’t he already have 2 years to run ? He’ll be 33 by the end of that contract… do we really need to be jumping at shadows atm?

OOC in 2025 I believe. Wouldn't surprise me if we added 1 year to 2026 with KPI's to trigger one more to 2027.

Well played on the thread title Nascent 😀

Alas wasn't my doing. I posted this in another Viney related thread and I presume an admin created this one and moved it here.

needless to say this certainly won't be happening...

A serious question thou, are we looking to cash in everyone over 28 or on long term deals to load up on draft picks to avoid bottoming out when the Tassie Compromised drafts take place?

Gees, I’m shocked. I was sure he’s out the door together with Clarry and Trac 🙄

Garry said, essentially, North asked, Jack went back to Melbourne and the conversation took less than 5 minutes. He's staying at Melbourne, and very happy to be staying at Melbourne

Correct. They asked the question. He's happy.

Must rate our culture 😁

Seeing Jack in anything other than red and blue would have been so weird. It probably exists in some twisted parallel universe somewhere. Happy to stay in this one.

It's a classic media beat up to drive the story of the "Imploding Dees"

Roos asked Viney, he said no.  And now is in discussions of extending his current contract.

But that's too boring a story

Kane Cornes raised this last week on SEN. He just suggested that North needed a certain type of mature aged player who would set high standards. He then used Jack as an example only. He also mentioned our bringing in of Daniel Cross as an example of the type of person North requires. That’s all it was.

No they are lining up the story that says we give out contracts too easily

Crossy works at North now I think. Last time I saw him he looked unbelievably fit. He’d still get 20 possessions in the AFL. He was such a hard working player.

Viney is a loyal warrior. Been through the dark days to a premiership. Can't see it ever happening. If Viney was forced to 'retire' and he wanted to keep going is the only scenario I could possibly see him playing for another club, but even then I'm not sure he would based on principle, that's the impression I get from JV7 - loyal.

Jack Viney is under contract.

Pick 2 as starters or forget it.

We need Jack to teach our young mids and provide leadership.

He is our Vice Captain.

Got to laugh. Port wants 2 1st rounders for Houston and he is a very good player. But Jack gives so much more to a team than being a very good player.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
