Way too many journalists covering footy in this town and I never thought I’d say this but way too many footy shows focusing on anything but the footy.

Fancy focusing on the wording of Lever’s interview rather than talking about the final week of footy with finals on the line for a couple of teams.

The industry should be regulated. 1 journalist every 20 square metres is fair.

Noticed since trac spoke to the players the media have quietened down.

Tonight watching fox footy no mention.  Hopefully it dies down for awhile

They need something to talk about Monday morning to Friday afternoon.

AFL press is a relentless cycle

Sports Entertainment Network would use terms like "cage free" and "barn fresh" and would continue with 40 reporters per 20 square metres. The AFL would turn a blind eye.

While they're at it, a zero sugar version would help a lot of people with their diets 😀

You're welcome to enrol in my VCE Media class and learn how the media is regulated in Australia.  I'm doing this topic at the moment with my Year 12s.

Essendon could get it done if it came to it - 1st + F1st + player

Freo if they don't trade with Richmond. They have Freo's 1st + Collingwood's 1st + Port's 1st in 2024. 9, 10 and 17 if season ended today.

He's not leaving though so it's all just a thought experiment.

So THAT’S the reason he’s not being traded/seeking a trade. I honestly wonder if any journo out there has thought about trying to invest a little investigative rigour into the TRUTH, one that isn’t full of moronic speculation and quarter truths for the sake of pure controversy.

Anyone?

My take. He will say he’s been very ill, had a really shocking injury and needed time out of the game. Then he will say he loves the dees and wants to win another flag with us. And I believe all of that to be true.

Hopefully  it'll just be the "i'm not leaving" speech from Wolf of Wall Street, but anything can happen on live tv! aha

I would be frankly shocked if he is convincing one way or another about where he will be, or wants to be next year.

IMO this will be a PR exercise to quiet the negative narrative around him.
We will be none the wiser afterwards.

Interesting that he is not doing something via the MFC comms.

Surely there will be nothing nefarious in any of the communications from this PR exercise.

He's not exactly going to come out and trash his brand by trashing the club BEFORE a match.

If I was a betting man then I would put money on this being a watered down version of his meeting with players during the week.

Clearly none of the clubs he would want to get to have the draft capital to make the move happen so for now he will have to remain a demon.

May even be some platitudes about how he is a contracted player and he looks forward to next year getting the Dees back into finals.

All the comms out of the club have been 'he has 5 years left, he'll be here for at least 5 years'.

What would be nice is to hear the narrative move away from his contract length being the reason he's staying, and towards him wanting to actually stay. Maybe we'll get that tonight

He might say “ I was a Pies fan as a kid, I was upset and depressed about injuries and for a moment thought of what it might be like to play for them, but then reality hit and I spoke to the boys, cleared the air and am looking forward to the rest of my AFL career with the Dees and winning more flags.”

My guess is he choose to speak to 7 before the game to make the statement as public and concrete as possible. Videos/statements released by clubs have less weight and don't have interviewers asking the difficult questions.

I think this means he has nothing to hide and is staying

I think it almost has to be this.

He's not going to announce he is seeking a trade before the last game of the season.

He's not going to announce his retirement from footy via Channel 7 and not though the club.

He more likely assessed his options and the for the time being it's committing to the Demons.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
