that would indicate to me a) he’s wanted out for a while and b) had to argue a current grievance is so grave if you already thought about claiming other grievances previously, seems like you just want out of a contract you signed of your own free will.

so whatever’s going wrong at the club is our fault?

Far out.

What an absolutely ridiculous thing to say.

The club’s problems are the problems of the board, management, FD etc. Supporters being loyal doesn’t change that. Collingwood supporters didn’t cause the Do Better issue. Hawthorn supporters didn’t cause the Cyril Rioli lawsuit. Essendon supporters didn’t cause the drugs scandal.

Indirectly, supporters refusing to hold the club accountable let's it get to that stage. I've been guilty of this so I'm not saying I'm exempt.

I'm not saying we are solely or even largely to blame, of course the clubs leaders are those who are most accountable but if the supporters let the behaviour slide and have a "my club, right or wrong" view then the environment can become toxic because there is no accountability. Either we want a member run club or we want a franchise operated by the AFL. Which is it?

The article in The Age today says no one has the space or capital to make a trade happen. It also states he’s not interested in going to Essendon or St Kilda.

So he’s not going anywhere, and this has all been for nothing - except massive damage to both brands?

What a debacle.

In 12 months time though?

i think the "considered it before" refers to connors group considering it for paddy ryder getting out of contract at essendrug. nothing to do with petracca

Well, we're still here so he must still be here.

Funny how true colours show through and I'm having to suggest his aren't Red and Blue....    more Pineapple / Avocado 😉

In one sense I feel sorry for the lad. His injury will not have been pleasant.  I think worse, his guidance by 'others' is taking him down a rabbit hole of no return.

He seems easily suggestible.

Careful what you wish for Christian.

Now.....wonder how many pages we can chew through today ;)

Again...feel the angst the "little CP5's" are going to feel in coming months

Get it done Melbourne ( most likely after finals of course )....

Out damn spot.....

I wonder could Sydney be a Smokey to get a deal done. Hear me out.
I know he says he wants to go to a big Vic club but if none of them come knocking with a good deal and his relationship with the Dees is broken beyond repair….

Chad Warner is out of contract next year and all the talk is he wants to go home and play with Freo. His trade value would probably be greater than Tracs. He probably wouldn’t get the same coin as Trac but it would be close.  Freo have the picks to get it done this year and Swans also have two late first rounders.

I’m sure there would be opportunities to build his brand in Sydney even if it’s not the footy bubble that Melbourne is.

It's referring to another player Connors manages, who was considering taking up a grievance to get out of a contract, not a separate circumstance that Petracca has considered.

Imagine if his management suggested to him that we might pay some of his contract to leave.

More likely he would have to re-negotiate a new contract on less dollars of he is adamant he wants to leave.

we are paying him a lot of money but imagine if he was focused on growing his brand he may consider a lesser contract at another suitor if he believed in the long-run the move would pay dividends.

Trac is a great player but how many players in their mid 20s with horrific injuries ever get back to their pre-injury form or better? I’d suggest not many if at all.

Jack Grimes and Jack Trengrove spring to mind…they were never the same after their major injuries.

I’m not sure why any club would take that risk to be honest?

Players often struggle to get back to their best even with far less serious injuries than tracc copped.

Ed Langdon is a good example.

Langers played great footy this year, particularly the second half of the season.

But he took ages to get back to his best footy after he had his ribs broken (wasn't that against the pies too?).

100% Binman - Langdon’s injury was Round 10 v North at Marvel in 2022 and only a couple of years later is he back to his best.

Tarryn Thomas hit Langers in a huge tackle while he was mid air and super vulnerable and then slammed him hard into the ground.

Gee if it came to this and his 'camp' got what they wanted it would set a very dodgy precedent. Pretty much any painful knock would require the club to withdraw the player from the match immediately.

However, if it did come to this and they succeed, I guess that means he'd be allowed to terminate his contract with us? Which would make him a free agent, and therefore we would get pick 6 as free agent compensation. At least that is better than nothing.

In fact, if the whole thing just becomes untenable and it looks like we might accept scraps from another club, maybe we'd be better agreeing to void the contract and take the free agency compo instead. Then he can go find a club that's prepared to pay him what he wants.

Anyone get the feeling that the AFL will back flip and allow 2 years future draft picks to be traded this year to get this deal to work so Trac can go to his beloved pies?
Finlay McRae + 2025 & 2026 first round picks with the pies taking all salary might interest us?

Looking unlikely we will be able to do a decent trade this season even without the Petracca debacle factored in. As the Tassie Tigers are on the horizon, maybe best to harvest all the presenting premium draft picks and use them.

Surely a mid-game, misdiagnosed injury in a contact sport isn’t on the same level as pressuring players to opt into a banned, club-led doping program?

feels like Ralphy is fishing here. What worries me is Trac and his ‘manager’ cotton onto the angle and try and pursue it

You never know with the AFL.  I assume the AFL will be keeping an eye on it as I imagine theyd prefer the grievance tribunal remains unused so precedents are not set etc.

Would be typical AFL to look after the big boy clubs though.

Hi Christian,

I hope this message finds you well. As a passionate supporter of the Melbourne Football Club, I have been truly inspired by your incredible talent, leadership, and dedication to the team over the years. You have been a vital part of our journey, and it's hard to imagine the club without you.

I recently heard about your indication to leave the MFC, and I wanted to reach out personally to ask if you might reconsider this decision. You have made such a significant impact here, both on and off the field, and it feels like there is still so much more that we can achieve together.

I understand that decisions like these are incredibly personal and can be influenced by many factors. If there’s anything the club or we, as fans, can do to support you and help change your mind, please let us know. The next six weeks are crucial, and we would be so grateful for any chance to continue seeing you in the red and blue.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. No matter what you decide, you will always have the unwavering support of myself and the entire MFC community.

Wishing you all the best.  Ray

we are all Ray

Sadly to Ray, he just doesn't give a [censored] about you.

Of course not, but if you think the way we've managed this has been acceptable then you've got rocks in your head.

Also mental health issues wasn't what I was referring to.

The way we have managed this?

C'mon, that's bollocks.

I have been critical of various aspects of the club's management for a long time.

But in particular i have been strident in my criticism of all our comms (in its totality, ie fan focused, social media, website, crisis management, engagement, injury updates etc).

And I have little doubt poor comms is a factor in the tracc's evident anger.

And I have a great deal of sympathy for tracc in terms of the trauma he has experienced from a near death, life changing experience.

But what is happening right now is almost all on tracc.

He is an adult who signed a muti million long term contract just three years ago.

And now he wants out of that contract, yet is trying to achieve that aim in an incredibly immature, unprofessional way.

I mean, did he even speak with another club to test the waters before running down the club to a peanut luke Morris?

I had thought it was likely his manager that backgrounded Morris.

I no longer think that because any such manager would never work in the business again if he leaked to the media his player wanted out without a landing place.

I mean c'mon.

So that means tracc is driving what could only charitably called a strategy (by the by, it's pathetic to blame anyone else in his orbit, tracc is an adult).

Nuclear option? Breach of contract?

Ridiculous.

I'm not suggesting the dees don't have issue to work through, but when the dust settles it will be tracc whose reputation is damaged.

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin
