Yeah Definately agree BUT Has some serious X Factor appear from nowhere and conjures GOALS!

How's the guy with the rude mullet and short Daicos like legs going?
He had a promising looking draft clip.
Looked like a footballer rather than an athlete.

The last or second last point Port got they got inside 50 by Rozee winning a clearance on our half forward flank. He was left goal side of the stoppage, all by himself, and sure enough, they tapped it straight to him, hegets the clearance and pings forward for an inside 50 for them.

It's like WTF are we doing? 10 mins left in the game and it's either scores tied or we're a point down.

Whatever we're doing at stoppage, it isn't suiting our best clearance player in Clarry, so it needs a rejig. Enough of this playing Clarry as a defensive mid every week.

One thing I was really excited about was starting McVee in the centre square and then he disappeared from there. Clearly, just wanted to give him a small taste. He needlessly rushed a lot of his disposals tonight when he had more time. It'll be good for him to watch the tapes though.

Rivers seemed to have a different role, a bit more back of stoppage, which is where he plays his best footy IMO, but he wasn't able to have a huge bearing on the game.

We need a new midfield look next year.

We have a gun ruck and obvious thing when game is on the line is to own the outside and force them under the footy but we don’t do that ever

But in all honesty these AFL line coaches aren’t [censored] they do actually know what they’re doing

Mate defence wins premierships

Mate ... We also kicked 21 goals.
Not gonna win many kicking 7.
Kozzie kicking 4 of them.

Sydney won one kicking 8 in 2005.
And they were boring as batsheet too.
If they were playing on my front lawn I woulda drawn the curtains.
Same with Ross Lyons Aints and Dockers.
How many has he won again?

And like it or not we're also in the entertainment business.
Abit more attacking play might put a few more bums on seats, sell a few more memberships, get abit more free to air TV and a few more lucrative sponsors.
Channel 7 would hate us.
Fork all goals means fork all ads.

I have bet also against the Dees for about the last 7 weeks. Didn't bet v Essendon. Needless to say, I'm well ahead.

That was actually a good effort. Umpires did not reward our tackling pressure - so many Port players dropped and threw the ball and play on was called. I'm glad they put some pride back in the jumper.

Observations:

- How many times do we get the ball on the 50 arc and none of our forwards present? Stafford just has to go. Its disgusting how much they've protected him because he's one of the boys. Its a clear and obvious issue that costs us games every week. It has nothing to do with him having once been a ruck, playing position is irrelevant to being a coach. He just has no [censored] idea how to set up a forward line. People need to be more upset about this.

- Tigers fans will tell you that their midfield was never at its best under McQualter. We should have listened. A little better today but not by much. Sad to waste a ruck like Gawn.

- Billings dropping that mark and missing the snap sums up his career. No idea why we thought bringing him in was a good idea.

- Subbing JVR was bizarre, especially as he got the call right after a big mark. Minute he comes off, the Power put more men into Gawn and Petty and wrestled back momentum in the air.

- Love and respect Melky but the last two weeks show that its time to get him away for conditioning and let him have another go next year. Ineffectual when he came on.

- TMac struggled against Dixon and is fortunate Dixon is barely mobile. That's three weeks in a row he's been dodgy by foot too after a great season.

- Pickett was awesome

- McVee was awesome

- Cannot afford to give up pick 6 for Houston. We have three quality kids under 23 and the rest are iffy at best.

- Howes had a good start to the year but it is panic stations now. IMO he isn't a defender, but three years in as a mid-sized players and I have no clue what role he is best suited to. Doesn't appear mobile enough to intercept. Maybe back to the wing?

- Hate digging into a kid, but Tholstrup doesn't show any clear strengths to his game. That miss from 35 on a slight angle wasn't even close, he didn't look like he wanted it. 0 tackles too, which should see him back in the VFL for Brown or essentially anyone else. Lots of time to improve but I'm not convinced trading 27 and 35 to move up three places and claim him won't come back to bite us. Would look better in a good team. Needs to work on his skills for Casey.

- Viney was much better.

- It is tragic what has happened to Oliver. I am close to giving up hope for him and I almost want him to request a trade and start again. I hope he's doing okay in his personal life because he doesn't front up like he's interested.

Viney was fantastic tonight, his 1st qtr in particular was enormous

We really lack a lot of class and footy IQ in our midfield.

Max too soft when the contest was hot.

Just rest Max for the rest of the year please, all I am asking for.

Tholstrup should have disposed of the ball when he marked 30 m out, we had clear path to goal. Instead he almost kicked out in the full. These kids will learn.

Thankfully you don’t coach the players. Every coach in the league would have told him to go back and kick the goal

Well obviously. But to call it out after a game on Saturday is a bit strange.

Definitely need a review of the whole FD. We need a new method, game plan and a whole set of coaches who can work some magic. TBH this should have been done last year. 2024 was a wasted year. We achieved nothing  but blooding a few young ones.

Its either keep goodwin or make changes it appears thats the only option

Thought we played a lot better last night. Lacked the polish to finish the job against a red hot contender though. Loved Kozzie’s game.

Absolutely embarrassing reactions in here. I would hate to think about how some people here deal with real problems in life judging by the way you react to a footy game. Bunch of miserable [censored] making this forum more unbearable by the day.

Undermanned, with sick players pulling out and others still playing, against a side with one regular out, who were playing for top 4 and who beat the top team by 19 goals the week before. We lost by a kick.

That is a fantastic effort.

Talk about a pot fwd line.

7 goals.

And four of those from zkozzie.

Petty zip.

Jvr zip.

Melksham twiddling his thumbs as wasn't subbed on until five mins into the last

Poor coaching for sure.

Clearly our second best loss of the year behind the Brisbane Gabba game. If you told me before the game we would be leading for over 60% of the game I would have well and truly taken that. I thought we’d put the cue in the rack during the Dogs game, so the response was appreciated.

We need to ensure everyone is available for day 1 pre season, which is what derailed our 2024 season. If that means surgery now then do it. If Gawn doesn’t need surgery then keep him in the side as he’s keeping us afloat. We’d be stuffed without him.

We also need to heavily practice last 2 minute scenarios over summer like Collingwood have done in the past, when we’re behind and trying to take the win away from the oppo. We’ve had plenty of practice with 4 or 5 close losses this year but haven’t nailed one aside from the North game, but we were in front.

Really disappointing that with about  1:12 left on the clock, JHF marks the ball in his defensive 50 and Port manage to nurse the ball down to their forward pocket by games end without us realistically getting near it.

Goodwin said in the presser we had gastro through the group this week.

Half a chance Oliver and JVR had it at some point I reckon. Both looked like they had it from the first minute of the game.

Cornes showed a package of Clarry's efforts from last night. I hope he has had gastro because the vision was damning

Or maybe they just had poor games? They both trained fine all week by all reports.

Every loss we always seem to want to invent excuses.

Chris Scott said the exact same thing after the preliminary final back in 2021 and he got absolutely smashed by our very own supporters on here.

Goodwin says the exact same thing and some are happy to give him a pass.

To be honest I thought there should have been others that should have been subbed out instead of JVR.

This is the type of vision that have been shown throughout the year regarding his on field performance though, not just last night.

Cornes has previously done it on his Saturday night show and David King has showed more damning footage on First Crack previously.

It’s not an excuse anyway. If they were sick why did we play them?

JVR was one of a handful of sub options. I’d have preferred Hore but presumably Melksham as sub forced us to look at a forward.

Either way, it's embarrassing.

Some of his around the corner scrap kicks are just unbelievable. That one that resulted in the Butters goal. Unforgivable. That's nothing to do with conditioning. That is completely between the eyes, just no care taken.

And as for some of his tackling efforts, compare them to an exhausted Jack Viney or even ANB.. It's honestly alarming. Clarry is just out there taking the [censored] right now and it's sad to see.

If we want to progress we need to turn over the list.
Decisions need to be made.

We will already be doing that with Schache, Brayshaw, Hunter, Brown, Tomlinson, Smith and maybe TMac… you don’t want to turn over much more than that in one year!

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
