There is no harm in backing in our coaches

Not if we get done by 10 goals most weeks, win 2 games and become the easy beats of the competition.

Does anyone here think maybe the last straw was when Goodwin mentioned the Max off field struggles at the press conference? Could that be the point where he lost his playing group for good?

Nah I reckon well meaning but a [censored] up

So, how are we feeling after tonight?

I saw some glimpses of hope but I am at the point that I don't want to hope.

Time for change I reckon

let the season play out but we need a new voice and direction next year.

Most ever recorded uncontested marks conceded against in a game tonight.

Zach Guthrie himself 17 marks.

Trac isn’t happy. Clayton isn’t happy. Max isn’t himself. Several players have regressed.

We thank you for the ride in 2018. We thank you for the 2021 flag but it is time to go, Simon.

And we blame you Simon for 2017, 2020 and 2023.

Simon Goodwin probably has as much pressure on him as Michael Voss now....

However, the players have to take responsibility for the poor performances too.

Very few players want to bleed for the Demons jumper at the moment. That probably angers me the most.

Sadly, in a game where winning matters, it is going to take a miracle for Simon Goodwin to still be coaching the Demons in 2026.

Gee he looked totally shellshocked and devoid of credible answers same old Rhetoric again! Yep, times up I'm afraid!

Yeah, I’m not a fan but I agree.

We should be past wanting hope or good effort AND EXPECT IT. FFS we r such a frustrating team and our own worst enemy.

Goody looks lost and can’t fix the problem.

Completely out coached tonight. Simon was a good coach when the game became all about contested possessions, clearances and territory.

Now the game is all about ball movement. This clearly isn't Goodwin's strength, and he also completely overestimates the skill of the players on his list. Why would you allow Geelong to have a spare defender when you require our mids and half forwards to pinpoint perfectly weighted kicks? Do we have Errol Gulden or Gryan Miers kicking the footy? No, we have Jack Viney and Clayton Oliver. Bloody even up the numbers to at least give our forwards a chance.

Who will get axed first Voss or Goodwin? 🤔

Who will the Blues & Dees target as a replacement? Longmire, Simpson ... or even Buckley 😁

6 goals, and there ends yet another Goodwin "bore the living [censored] out of the fanbase" masterpiece.

I can handle losing, but [censored] me would it hurt us to lose (or win) in an entertaining manner for once?

There's a leadership void at the club right now. Of those who would have been considered leaders in the flag year.

  1. Gawn is a year older, and beginning to slow down at last.

  2. The game is moving away from one-paced extractors like Viney, and he looks slower too.

  3. Petracca showed his hand. Not saying he was wrong, because he was mishandled, but there's clearly a fracture there. A good chance to be out next year.

  4. May is probably past it, at least as a first banana key defender. He was also involved in a scrap over the summer, and the first thing he did this week was whack a bloke and give away 50. You can carry leaders like this when all are on the straight and narrow, not when you desperately need calm heads.

  5. Lever has failed to advance his game since becoming a premier interceptor in his early 20s. Some of his contemporaries, like Tom Stewart, have managed to remain aerial kings whilst also being able to stick to a man. Lever is more Allir - good at one thing, but error prone. This bloke should be close to the AA squad every season, but has only made it once. What does it say to young players when someone is getting so much less out of themselves than they could?

Losing ANB and Brayshaw in consecutive years was a disaster, and one the club seems to have done nothing to mitigate. Neither of them was as good as the top liners in the team, with respect to Gus who was a jet in his good seasons, but both were cultural barometers. All the cultural talk this year rings hollow when you see how disconnected the team looks on field. I thought we were bad in 23, then in 24, now I almost think back to last year warmly because it was rare the team didn't look at least relatively cohesive.

We have a huge hole in the list of players drafted between 2015-2018 - guys squarely in their prime with years to go. Our core was drafted between 2009-14, and then 19-24. The latter is encouraging, as it means we have more young talent than other clubs in our position - but who the hell is going to lead them?

Right now, its Max until he drops and then probably Lever who is still decent, but as said above, is hardly an example of a footballer who leaves everything on the field and gives everything he has every week.

With all this in mind - you have to ask yourself. Do you trust Goodwin to plug the gaps himself? Is he the kind of eloquent coach who can speak to people at their level? Is he able to drive standards whilst straddling the line between popular and respected?

The answer for me is a resounding no. As it was 6 months ago. Which makes hanging onto him and wasting this season all the more frustrating. Likewise Richardson.

This is the post. Someone with a line to the club please send it to Brad Green.

The club is only as good as the people in it, and the leaders at the helm. We've lost a lot of good people and the leaders are lacking.

I thinkwe have to get older before we get younger.

Should have thrown a longer deal at Tex.

Need to target has beens with strong leadership. Even if they only play 10 games. Will cost is though

Parker would have been good. Why didn’t we go after Darling..

Instead we have Sharp and a bunch of VFL rookies.

2 worse case scenarios.

We win enough games to save goodwins job and continue to lurch in to mediocrity next season

Or we delay the removal of Goodwin and miss the chance to grab a top caliber replacement and have to settle for less.

the move needs to be made soon. It’s obvious for years now he’s not the guy. We won in 2021 on talent , in spite of his coaching. He’s failed to address glaring issues for years now. That’s his job.

put in a caretaker now and start the process to secure a gun coach

The one player Goodwin won't give less midfield minutes to is Jack Viney, the guy who is struggling more than anyone else to have any real impact right now.

Allowing Geelong to use the short kick from defensive 50, occasionally through the corridor and into the forward line while employing a flimsy zone defense was a baffling decision when that is exactly what they're hoping teams will do.

Conversely, Melbourne still just kick it long down the line despite lacking the contested marking as well as the fact the game has completely moved away from that being a successful one wood. Something has to change.

Viney did 12 centre bounces tonight, out of 22.

Oliver, Langford and Pickett all did more.

Can’t see Goody staying if we finish bottom 4

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
