Very stark to the doggies ball movement tonight.

Generate run off half back and sling shot from there. Swarm in numbers around the contest and then run in waves.

Compared to us where we chip sideways to a wing then bomb down the line. Incredibly predictable all night.

Our ball movement is slow because he set us up to be a contested beast and won a flag doing it. Weโ€™ve then been top 4 and if it werenโ€™t for injuries last year weโ€™d have 2 flags and likely still have Gus running around. After the Carlton final I would have sacked everyone but this year has panned out pretty much how I expected. Heโ€™s now getting the talent together to speed up our movement. ย The unexpected positive is the quality of our youngsters. I think 25 will go ok.

The fault here lies squarely at the feet of Tim Lamb.ย

His inability to recruit a single senior player to add to this team is a travesty. Worse, those he has added are genuinely negatives from a competitiveness and physicality POV.ย

To maintain a competitive list you need both trading and drafting to be on point. We built our flag with draft + Langdon, Lever, Hibberd, Melksham, May. We haven't added a single solid piece since.ย

I said at the start of the year that we were a Trac injury away from missing finals - I was right. I'm not sure what we expected tbh when our midfield depth consists of Laurie, Woewoedin, Tholstrup. They're just kids - but it'sย just not at the level. We knew Oliver would be poor. I don't think any of us thought Viney would be this poor. Deloitte might have broken him...

We simply had to add some senior, good players to this team after the flag. Richmond went and got Tom Lynch. We got Grundy...

If we'd stuck with Grundy we'd be doing better than we are now. Getting Grundy was the right choice. The coaching team completely cooked that thereafter.

Anyway, our drafting has been good. It only takes one good trading period to turn things around.

We need to replace Brayshaw, and bring in a bit more pace. JVR is coming on as a decent alternative to Jackson. He took a bit longer but he's looking good.

@WERRIDEEย can we please get your coaching line up with in and outs every week before next season? Thatโ€™d be ace.ย

We canโ€™t afford to pay him out.

Well, in my view the whole club needs a total rebuildย

Out Roffey, Goodwin, Stafford, Mc Qualter and maybe even Choco.

Goodwins fall from Grace is starkly evident. In desperation he played Disco and Petty back ( WHERE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLAYING ALL SEASON and T Mac forward Well just GOMER PYLE ME SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE all did Better in these positions so why Simon did it take SO LONG For the penny to drop??? Oh and I have another one for you. Chandler was sheiit. Tholstrup aint up to it and by CARRRYST PLAY JEFFO THIS WEEK!

I think itโ€™s the right time for a FD reset. Things have turned stagnant and we need to search for our next premiership coach.

The coach doesn't kick it through the big sticks himself... he provides the opportunity... I still believe we were the best team in 22' and 23' just failed under pressure that's on the players not Goody.ย

The sweet irony of this coming after a loss to the resurgent, premiership-contending, Beveridge Bulldogs.

Funny thing, only few months back, all my bulldogs mates were calling for his head. Amazing turnaround. Dogs a big sniff to snaffle the flag now.

Goodwin is a frustrated coach but this year has been defined by injuries.ย

Other than Gus name me a player who was pivotal to our team who was out? Melksham only slightly in this boat.

Getting Grundy wasn't all that bad. It didn't work but that was in equal parts on Grundy himself, Gawn and the FD overall. The idea wasn't a shocker.

But otherwise yes, our list management is a far more significant reason for why we're where we are right now.

The conventional wisdom for years from those who don't like Goody has been that our list has masked his poor coaching. I continue to believe it's actually the opposite - we'd have been worse under a lesser coach.

Our fortunes in 2025 turn on what we can achieve this off-season beyond the draft.

Irony alright, the sack Bevo camp now firmly in the Dogs for premiers camp....

Slow ball movement stagnated forward line. Time to go if you care about the club Goody you should take sole responsibility for the disasterous year we have had. We need to rebuild and Goody is not the man to take us there unless you want a Simpson type form line. Roffey if you are worth your weight you should sack him now. Time to release Jeffo

We didnโ€™t win a flag, which I am well aware of but please explain why they were bad seasons and not just bad finals campaigns?

Iโ€™d almost say Goody is coach of the year even though we missed finals

Yeah Iโ€™d say he nudges out all of Mitchell, Longmire, Fagan, Bevo and Longmuir for that honour.

Its OBVIOUS RIGHT

Dogs. Fast. Direct. Waves. ย Running. ย

Dees. Slow. Indirect. Wide. Static.ย

They weren't bad years, as such, just incredibly disappointing years. Imo we have missed a window wide open for the last 2 years and have wasted an amazing list that is now aging and banged up

Why not. He is the one in charge! Who selects playing style, group dynamics and player personel and changes on match day. I'll give you a hint, it aint Donald Trump, it aint Linda Lovelace, and it aint the Shark outa Jaws, BUCK STOPS with the COACH!!

Can people stop saying 2023 was the premiership that got away?

We had the opportunity to make something of the 2023 finals with a week 1 MCG final but we werenโ€™t up to the standard.

Collingwood jumped us in the qualifying final and lead 33-6 in the second quarter and held a 25 point lead at 3 qtr time. No club is coming back from a 4 goal deficit at 3 qtr time, in a low scoring final.

(sorry to derail the Goodwin discussion)

Err Trac says hello. Lever missed 5 weeks. May had broken ribs. Spargo, and Bowey missed a heap of weeks. Salem also. Clarry missed a preseason and has played with a broken hand. Petty also had no preseason. Turner missed weeks. Oh, and also Smith for the year, and now Windsor.

Besides these, what else have the Romans done for us.

Goodwin still deserves to turn things around next season but he's burnt his tickets up quicker than any other coach in recent memory.ย

He has coached poorly this year. And as a club we've been poor this year just as we were in 2019. It might take a while to right this ship. But it's definitely the end of an era.ย

He shouldn't continue past his current two year contract unless we AT LEAST make a GF again.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
