The stupidity of the VFL’s fixturing comes to the fore on Friday in mid-afternoon when a crowd of one or two dozen (weather permitting) turn up to watch a VFL game at Mission Whitten Oval which is probably out Footscray way.

That’s where the Casey Demons will be playing this week and, despite the fact that they won’t play against about three other VFL clubs at all this year, they take on Footscray for the second time in 2024. They have already played the Brisbane Lions twice.

Go figure?

Not only does it white ant ( rather than support) the senior competition, it also makes winning a flag in this competition seem kinda devoid of value.

This should be the second best competition in the nation.

It seems like it's being run by clowns.....

Oh hang on

Coz its a F@#$%!@ Basker case of a competion run like an under 7 school House competition in the Bronx. UNTIL the other AFL clubs ark up and we have an AFL reserves comp, nothing will change. THIS IS AND HAS BEEN SHIZZEN FOR FAR TOO LONG🤮

It would almost be like it would be maybe just a little bit better to just play the seconds before the AFL at Docklands?
Woah dude
🤯

But after the cluster-$@&) of the kardinia surface a couple of weeks ago, I can’t see them playing any games or even too close together.
Except if it involves Taytay …..or gmhba

I see no point in playing BBB or Schache again this season unless they are keen or we need them numbers wise. MJ needs another tall - Fullerton, Verall,  Kentfield.

I supported my club for more than 60 years, but geez, it's getting harder by the week.

damn...I thought it was on Saturday and was looking forward to getting to it. The AFL really dont have a clue how to run the game do they. Why schedule games at a time that drastically reduces attendances ?

Given that the VFL fixture i heavily influenced by the participating AFL clubs there are some very strange outcomes.

The Brisbane fixture was weird

FWIW this one makes relative sense

Gives everyone the weekend off

Now... what do we want from this game skill wise...

Personally I'd like a good game from McAdam particularly below his knees

3pm on Friday.

Do they even care if people attend these games anymore?

This game is basically around the corner from home and I absolutely would have gone if it was fixtured at a decent time (that didn’t clash with the AFL Dees playing) but the game will probably wrap at around the time I knock off work.

Ridiculous fixturing.

Looking forward to the Casey team dropping at 7.40 on friday night an hour and a half after the game finishes.

Don't mind Jeffo roaming around.

That's great, I didn't realise the game was tommorow at whitten oval.

I have the day off and it's on my side of town.

A bus stop almost outside my house and the bus stops at West Footscray station over the bridge to the ground.

Watch the magoos in footscray.

Pho in Barkly Street.

Then on the train to Marvel.

Perfect Friday.

I seem to keep asking the same question which begins:

Has the AFL given any reasons for ....

Today's entry: 2 Friday afternoon games?

no idea!

but they still manage all games on sunday to overlap somehow.

takes skill to be this bad at fixturing

Welcome to Friday’s Festival of Footy. Hopping a cloven hoof can spoil the party somewhere between the kennel and the ‘g. To re-assure those on the outer limits of the Demon periphery (eg. Milwaukee’s finest) Gerry and your correspondent are ringside at the TJ Whitten oval  (virtually) resplendent in the afternoon sunshine sitting in deckchairs. Is that an omen? We’ll have to wait and see. Go Demons!

Not the start Casey wished for!

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
