It’s also interesting how many at the very top of this draft are small in comparison to contemporary AFL midfielders.

As mentioned, Cal Twomey's latest phantom draft:

Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' September ranking

Damn you Cal for ranking Langford so highly

Tough to see him falling our pick but you never know given the evenness of this draft

I wonder where JT ranks Reid? I’ve been big on Lalor as the next cab of the rank but Reid offers something we have just about never had in the midfield and it looks like he has worked hard to address the (few) deficiencies he has in his game

AFL midfield is moving towards pace and agility imo - and then the power freaks (Heeney, Danger, Trac ect). Height doesn't help much apart from marking around the ground.

Don't think anyone thought Daicos could be this good considering height and weight. Ashcroft dominating finals in first 30 games. Neale potentially 3 brownlows. Small balanced mids are dominating

Reid is highly rated - and not just by Taylor.  Said it in the pick 5 thread. He would be a great addition if we can land him.

Yep and skills.  You want players that can hit targets.

It has evolved back to drafting footballers no matter what size.

Windsor and Reid would be an exciting young midfield combo.

I reckon there would be clubs that would have Sam Lalor at 1, it's a weird draft that is so even. i reckon there is a clear top 6 though, the nice part is we will get one of those and they're all mids.

@Ted Lasso  agree. A future star at “pick 5” then pickup another 3-4 players in this draft. This year imv there’s talent all the way through into the 40s,50s and beyond.

As important as it is to get pick 5 right I really think that with the amount of players we will turnover this year and next we really need to find some gems either late in this draft, rookies or SSP.

We need to find a Chad Warner, McVee or Olly Dempsey somewhere.
Hard to do but given the depth of this draft, our NGA and F/S option and with JT at the wheel I can’t wait to see how this draft unfolds. I just hope we have enough list spots to allow JT to have a proper crack.

I think you have to take the powerful dynamic xfactor midfielder/forward.
They are hard to draft and you can build your midfield from there

Harley Reid, danger, dusty , Trac , degoey,Warner.
Blokes like Murphy Reid, Lindsey , Jagga, maybe Draper are easier to find, plus mcvee and rivers could Be our more outside mids in the future

i would be going for h Langford then if he’s gone lalor and if they are both gone maybe O’Sullivan is still available

AFL phantom draft has Langford #2, ESPN has him at #10.

both lists are a fair bit different despite being released on the same day. No doubt we’ll grab a talented kid at #5 regardless who it is

Sam Laylor's high grade hamstring (out for 10 weeks) worries me. Your risk of re-injury is so much higher with these types of injuries. It's also not a great sign for someone at his age. It was also mentioned on the AFL site he has have multiple other injuries scattered throughout the season.

There are two ways to look at this. His body isn't coping and he hasn't even started the loading necessary to compete at AFL level. OR, his body hasn't been prepared well enough to cope, which is a positive as he will receive the required conditioning once in the AFL system.

Such an important perspective. Ironically, its as important to the get the later picks correct. If we are going to have sustained success, it's this model that needs to work well. Hopefully next year we won't have a pick inside the top 15, hence why this is so important going forward.

I've landed on my top 3 in order of preference

1. Finn O'Sullivan (Will be gone)

2. Harvey Langford (Gun, probably will be gone

3. Jagga Smith (either goes pick 1, or likely slips through)

The 2nd round for McAdam is looking so bad in hindsight. Would be super surprised if Adelaide gift it back to us for Nibbla given the quality of this draft

Clubs will do their required medical checks and due diligence.  Lalor (Like O’Sullivan) has been impacted by injury but at his best, he is one of the very very best in the draft pool.  If Langford, O’Sullivan, Smith and Draper all go before our pick, then either Lalor or Reid will be the most likely selection choices for the Dees.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
