If Goody sees Petty and/or Disco going back in a year or two we pick Armstrong or Shanahan. Gives us quality forward options and sorts out Back problems when TMc and May pack it in.

If we pick up Kalani White in the 2025 draft he will likely take 2 or more preseasons to get a regular game as likely a KPB.

According to today's Herald Sun, Carlton may throw a "curve ball" and choose Sid Draper instead of Finn O'Sullivan.

Adelaide would then look to possibly take Harvey Langford.

Would the Demons take Finn O'Sullivan if he was available at pick #5?

Who is the more talented player? Finn O'Sullivan or Jagga Smith?

I'd take Finn

We won't be picking up Smillie. We won't pick a player with intensity issues. Jack Watts being the main reason.

Meanwhile, we selected Weid and missed out on Curnow and Mackay

Taylor only takes competitors

Hope that SEN phantom draft isn't a sign of things to come

Selecting both Smillie and Shanahan would be disappointing if all of Langford, Tauru, Reid and Travaglia are available at picks 5 and 9.

I wouldn't...

Neither would I, but if JT does, I'll trust him.

There's always a top 10 player that slides and I think it will be Smillie I don't see him as top 10 material. It will take balls for a recruiter to pick up a player who had a bad year and lacks intensity just because he's tall and can kick. Between 11 and 20 I see him getting picked I think Hynes will get picked up before him.

and Schache went at pick 2 in the same draft as the stand out tall fwd

FOS

I'd be staggered if Jagga Smith and Finn O'Sullivan somehow both made it to pick 5 given those two players have been prospective number 1 picks for the majority of this year with Lalor emerging late.

I'd probably lean towards Jagga personally but JT is the expert

I wonder how much Goodwin/Lamby looks at the condition/headspace Jeffo comes back in before making a call on what to do with #9 (or even 5)… perhaps too frivolous but if Jefferson doesn’t look like he wants to grab the bull by the horns this year I would be looking to an Armstrong/Shanahan with that #9

It's definitely still a concern. Particularly noting many of the observations emanating from the club this year regarding Jefferson's disposition and readiness to play senior football. Whilst it's a welcome insight that physically he's seemingly put in the effort over the past 12 months to get where he's at, I wouldn't be hanging my hat on the idea that he'll be changing the dynamic of the forward or playing senior football, as it stands. It's absolutely a 'watch this space' dynamic, as it stands.

Noting how many talls we have on the list (playing at Casey) I'd be surprised if we took a kpf unless deemed best available.

Noting Jefferson, Kenterfield, Fullerton Smith and Verral can't all fit there (Assuming Campbell rucks) and this is with JVR, Petty and Turner all holding kpf positions for the Dee's.

More importantly for our Casey forwards to develop; they need to be fed by a strong (dare I say dominant midfield) as you can't improve you marking/forward craft if the ball is not being delivered to you.

From what I can see Casey's midfield really dropped of last year and is currently weaker this year.

SO get the two most midfielders available at both 5 and 9!!!!

Note: watched perth SEN with Mick Ablett and apparently he really rates Kenterfield.

Anyone know where Gabriel Stumpf is projected to get drafted?

He is key fwd that won 20m sprint and vertical leap at combine - so freak athelete - but I haven't heard him mentioned at all in mix of top Key Forwards.

Would be great to snag him at end of the draft - but I assume he'd be gone

Imo you don't draft based on needs unless you are splitting hairs between players

If a gun mid is best available at 9 we take them IMO. If we build a super deep and talented midfield, along with the A+ talent we already have on the list - Roo and Disco (maybe fit petty) could be good enough to make us a top 4 team again.

Alternative to drafting a key:

Build a great list that lacks 1 or 2 key positions, and then trade draft picks to get a proven player -
(e.g. Most of our spine in the premiership: Lever, May and Brown)

This will become even more viable from next year(?) when we can trade 2 years of future draft picks.
Rather than gambling on a lesser player in the draft that almost certainty wont be ready to meaningfully contribute to a premiership until 4-6 years time

We can also try to find a KP forward other ways:
Jesse Hogan wanted to come back to Melb after freo and we pulled out last minute (horrible I know). Peter Wright was available for cheap trade
Mihocek and Treacy were rookie draft
Mitch Lewis Rd 5 in draft

To the Demons? Is this common knowledge?

I heard it from the horses mouth on Dyl and Friends podcast when Hogan went on - which was pretty recent  (last 2 months maybe)

That was the first I had heard, so might have not been public before then.

But yeah he was desperate to play anywhere, and always loved Melbourne, so was very keen to come back. We pulled out and GWS threw him a lifeline.. the rest is history

Edit: Just googled, GWS gave pick 54 - so that says it all really - he was gettable to the whole comp but no one wanted to touch him, despite him being only 25yo

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
