whatwhat say what 23,855 Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 sparrow had a quarter and a half of leather poisoning in the first hour and then a half of nothingness in the second he either doesn't have the fitness base to play full-time as a mid or he is not working hard enough for long enough...they may seem like the same thing but i personally don't think they are fullarton's clearance work was excellent, he ran hard, and he got monstered in the ruck hore and sestan the next best for the dees jefferson's set shot kicking has gone to pieces 3 1 Quote

Their forward line is stacked, especially with guys like Cadman and Gruzewski now pushing for regular selection. Quote
DubDee 26,674 Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 This is why Brown didn't get selected. Young kid, inconsistent. He'll learn But some posters will still say appalling treatment of our young kids 4 1 Quote

It was about Spaz but it applies to all the players, especially the kids. He said they’re not just dropped without explanation. There are sports psychologists, and counsellors (available 24/7) who talk decisions through at length with them. I mentioned Jacquie Louder who works for Collingwood. She sits on the bench on gameday and talks to the players as they come on and off. She’s a bit a mum figure. Chocco asked me if I want that job with us. I politely declined since I’ll be too busy doing Reece’s job. 😁 Quote

Maybe some of that is at HF where the demand is not as great compared to that of full time stoppage midfielder. I also wouldn't be surprised if they tagged him in the 2nd half to take him out of the game. Edited July 27, 2024 by MrFreeze 1 1 Quote

It's his sixth season this year and as a mid he has consistently amassed 15 disposals each game. He either lacks fitness or just plain midfielder skill. ie reading the play. In any event it was a big call for the Fd to drop such a regular player. Not something that is done very often From all reports today, its hard to see him get back into the Seniors. He's probably better off playing stints on the fwd line . Edited July 27, 2024 by leave it to deever 2 Quote
Little Goffy 14,963 Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Main things I learned. Jefferson continues to develop but as he grows in some crucial facets that people were very worried about like the contested work and leading patterns, an early favourable aspects in his set shots has suffered a bit. I feel comfortable with the progress in as much as it is the 'hardest to learn' stuff which he seems to be making progress in. Yze appears to be a legit prospect, which is nice. And if you drop an Yze sandwich on the floor you get a Gruzewski. And Casey needs go recruit and reorganise in a major way. And the VFL is being relentlessly disrespected by The Corporation. 9 Quote
Older demon 2,818 Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Disappointing buit if you kick 6. 15 you cannot expect to win. Awful conditions to play in and in the end a few bigger bodies at GWS turned it around. Callum Brown had a monster last quarter. The old adage pick it up and kick it. No BBB must surely mean his knee has the better of him, sad to say. Not sure why McAdam was out. Even more surprising was playing all the emergencies. The good was glimpses of what Jefferson is capable of. Verral and Fullarton are ok as ruck rovers but have a long way to go as tap ruckman, another day of outdone in the ruck. Yze is a big lad who is well-balanced and strong in the contest. I like some of Sestans work with clearance and hitting targets he just needs to get it more often. Sparrow was good in the first half and was in the best, just the response the selection team needed to see I didn't like how GWS got the ball out the back just like Freo did to the seniors last week. I hope the coaches took note and adjust our defensive zone because once it gets out the back we get slaughtered. 5 1 Quote

Jaded No More 68,976 Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Goal kicking is the easiest of all “flaws” to fix in a tall forward. The fact Jefferson is getting better with his marking leading and contest below the knees is what matters most. Needs to keep applying himself and impacting the contest physically. When you look at JVR and Disco, they’re certainly not perfect yet but they both attack the contest and repeatedly hit packs and make a contest. That is by far the most important thing for a young forward to do. Sounds like Jefferson is getting there. 3 Quote

A forward line with presence creates fear and doubt (perceived or otherwise) in defences, creating opportunities that wouldn’t be there if your forward line is not feared. 1 Quote

We overlooked h in the draft. 🤮🤮🤮 Hardly. We took Jefferson (pick 15) who was widely touted as the 2nd best forward in the draft behind Cadman (pick 1) Gruzewski (pick 22) had a few question marks on him at the time and went at the start of the second round. We didnt have another pick until Adams (pick 38). Gruzewski was playing forward and back and was listed at the same height as JVR who we had taken a year earlier. We needed a taller player to compliment him and it was an obvious decision to pick Jefferson. With neither Jefferson or Gruzewski playing much/any AFL matches, it's way to early for any comparisons or wrist slashing. I would be happy if we were targeting him for a trade though. 3 1 1 Quote
