Maybe just maybe... Melbourne is a progressive club who are not afraid to shop there stars around to see what they could get trade wise, knowing this is the norm in other sports, and will be in the Afl in years to come.

We, or they, aren't that smart.

the depth at Casey had done the work in the preseason to be fit to play AFL. Goodwin and others selected Oliver when he had not done the work and was not fit to play AFL and this was exploited by his opponents who knew they could outspread him, and the more they ran, the further he'd be behind them.

Oliver got 30 touches round 1, and 35 (and 3 Brownlow votes) in round 2.

No one at VFL was going to outperform Oliver this year.

Whether he had "served" his penalty is a different story, but on performance he may not have been the Oliver of old but he was better than any of our depth would have been.

Exactly right. I think people have already forgotten that we have very little depth. Our #2s finished 17th and can't really say anybody there was banging down the door on a regular basis to perform better than Clarry. While Clarry was certainly not fit, I think his performances were judged against his prior years - which is obviously a crazy high bar.

What if the strategy all along was to pretend our stars are connected to big trades while secretly going for a super star? lol

But Oliver needed time at Casey to get fit and to show some discipline,

regardless of what Casey had on their list

What really concerns me as it does Max is the leaking of information.

Whos doing it?

Cant they do anything without the whole world knowing about it immediately?

Why would people within the club want to hurt the club?

Well Crisis Management must not be the General Manager for Media and Comms forte.

Name the player you’d have had in the team instead

If the Clarry is staying the media will move straight onto Kozzie want out.

The media spin their tweet wheel:

Oliver wants out

Demons tell Oliver to look for a trade

Demons want to keep Oliver

Oliver to Cats is a virtual certainty

Oliver still loves MFC and wants to stay

Give it a spin Tom! This is an actual job but don’t worry you don’t need any sources and if you’re wrong it doesn’t matter!

Let’s be realistic here, if you think everything that has come out has been a lie then you are delusional

If we're looking for somebody who spreads very well, I'd nominate Butters (except when it's cold).

Of course i’m not saying that. Some are true, some half true, some don’t give context to the full truth but they don’t give a rats

Yet had we made him continue to do a block of pre season training and made a statement after the Lorne incident with a multiple game ban as other clubs did with Stevie J, Heath Shaw and Michael Walters in the past we may well have

1. Got his fitness at a level which would have lasted for the remainder of the season

2. Set a standard and message to the playing group that poor behaviour would not be tolerated

3. Made a decision which didn’t cause division within the playing group over preferential treatment

4. Long term view but we may not be in the current situation had we chosen action as opposed to talking tough

Couldn't agree more.  And this again shows he's treated differently to others.  I don't care how good he was/is - he needed to have several months of hard work to get back into that team. Instead he trained for 5 minutes and never missed an AFL game.

Some rumours for the media mob to follow up:

1. Max is about to leave for Ireland to play Gaelic football for Galway.

2. OIiver's proposed move is a cunning ploy by Goodwin to destroy the Cats from the inside.

3. Bowey is unhappy because his request to play at full forward has been rejected.

4. May and Melksham have lined up a UFC fight to see which one stays at the club next season.

5. Kozzie wants out because of the Melbourne weather.

PS:  No 5 might be true.
