Oliver Trade Rumours

If as reported is true that Pert has reached out to other clubs to see if they are interested in trading for Oliver, wouldn’t this be a list manager or footy manager job?

Seems strange that Pert would be doing this…

I don't, it's an educated guess on a hypothetical scenario.

But consider the perceived trade value here at peak Oliver and current Oliver.

2022 Oliver: Age 25, 3x AA (selected 2022), 4xBnF (won 2nd yr in a row), 2nd x AFLCA (won 2nd yr in a row).

What would clubs have to pay for him here?

Then consider 2024 Oliver: multiple off field scandals, major drop off in form for well over a year, 1mil + 6yr risk a club would be taking on.

Given there are articles suggesting clubs think they can get him on the cheap (take with a grain of salt), then I don't think its unreasonable to suggest that selling Oliver now would be right at he's lowest value.

Guess he can always go further off the rails, have further injury interruptions and form issues next year and therefore would be lower value next year.

As for Petracca, I only really included him as the only clubs that could satisfy our demands would be Richmond, West Coast or North and he's not going to consider any of them. If he goes to Carlton then we are going to get unders for him.

Get Oliver back into AA form and 12 months for clubs to get the assets required for Petracca and we'll get a much better trade outcome next year. That is if they want out and we decide to move them on.

Personally, I hope we keep them both for the entirety of their contract with both player returning to their best footy.

All my subjective opinion of course.

Exactly my point earlier. It's like the club have done everything they can to actually lower their value as much as possible. This would literally be the worst time to trade Oliver unless things were really so bad that they had to try and make it look salvageble

Pert should have walked already. I hope he doesn't survive much longer.

but I can't see how he could be acting without the knowledge of Goody and the FD (i still have faith in the FD, but not the board. and i reckon Brad Green would do the right thing). It would be an inexplicable and illogical solo run if he is. It would be grounds for Brad Green to call security and march Pert out the door for gross misconduct.

But there is a difference between the FD knowing and the FD being told that we're moving on Clarry due to what has come out of the review.

Either way, it shouldn't be Pert's job to be calling other list managers. Why have a list manager if Pert is going to make the calls?

I don't trust Green either...

Well I can tell you with 100% certainty that Brad Green eats at China Bar. I've seen it with my own eyes.

Honestly all this is reminding me of the time supporters begged Prendergast NOT to recruit a certain draftee that we picked and who never even played at VFL level.

You're assuming he's calling list managers.

(Reportedly the Oliver-Geelong meeting was with their CEO and President.)

Kane Cornes might be right on this one, probably more trouble than he's worth. Country life might be good for Clayton.

It's also what ultimately got Pert sacked at the Pies.

History repeating, with a president at the helm that allowed Gutnick to pull the wool over his eyes.

Lord help us.

I'm making an assumption based on us all of a sudden allegedly being open to trading Clarry.

It doesn't matter who he calls. If he has reached out in his capacity as a CEO, he has stepped into the list management lane, and he needs to be fired for it IMO.

Dude I know ran into Gawnie a while back and said what's going on and he rolled his eyes and basically gave the vibe of 'you don't know the half of it and none of it's good.'

I've heard similar things from colleagues related to players at the club. There's so much that has happened behind the scenes since the hamstring injury last year. All will be revealed one day but probably not until players retire.

Hear hear!! Some unfounded rumours on trade radio, which is dying to find things to talk about, and everyone here is crying, "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" and is blaming it on whoever their particular personal scapegoat is. And completely overlooking that Clayton Oliver has said he is not interested in Geelong!

Michael Gleeson has reported on it.

Read the article.

One of the few journalists who has maintained credibility over a long career and doesn't chase a controversy for the clicks.

He's weighed in because he firmly believes what he has heard.

It's the club that has started this.

Clayton is on the market for the second year in a row at the clubs request. Clubs don't trade their best players for no reason, Clayton being traded is what the club believes is the best idea. He has less value now than he did last year and we will get  unders in return.

As reported, the club is in crisis.

It's time for us to accept it and stop trying to blame McClure, Morris and Gleeson for telling us the truth.

A sad time for the club, but the club lives on and the sun will rise tomorrow.

2024 Player Reviews: #22 Blake Howes

After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. Originally an NBL basketballer with the Brisbane Bullets, he moved across town in 2019 to the AFL Lions where he played 19 games before crossing to Melbourne where he was expected to fill a role as a back up ruckman/key forward. Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. SLIP SLIDING AWAY by Meggs

It was a sweaty, slippery night at Cazalys Stadium, a tough slog with low scoring and missed opportunities.  The Hokball Hawks hung on to win by a goal and sit second on the ladder, relegating the disappointed Demons to, almost certainly, finals spectators.   We had to win this match. When news broke of late withdrawals of talisman Kate Hore and key back Gaby Colvin, expectations plummeted, and Demon fans despaired.  The bad news was the signature song of 2024, a season that’s

THE HEAT IS ON by Meggs

FNQ will be hot and sultry this Thursday night when the mighty Demons take on the highflying Hawks at up there Cazalys Stadium in Cairns.   The Demons once again rebrand for Indigenous Round as ‘Narrm’, the Woi Wurrung name for Melbourne in the language of the traditional owners.   Narrm has surged back up the ladder and sits just outside the eight on percentage with 5 wins. Our opponents Hawthorn sit second with 8 wins and have been become really offensive.
