The club not knowing about this meeting is such a bad vibe. We always look foolish & scrambling to cover ourselves

I’m not ready to defenestrate myself over this, though he is my fave (thank goodness the number 13 on the back of my jersey is for Jako!), but I’d love to know what has happened behind the scenes?

According to WCW (this is not a shot at you @WalkingCivilWar!) he’s in love with the club and vice versa and now this ?

Leaving that aside, in terms of the business of winning, if we improve our list as a result, so be it. He’ll look good in hoops, though.

We’ve the whip hand here - going to be fascinating to see how this plays out.

It is getting exhausting this constant circus around Oliver...hopefully the club has a good handle on this latest situation and how to make the best out of it

Oliver has no price. He is priceless.

Let the man have a pre season, and without broken bones in his hands... and he simply wins our BnF and is the centre in the All-Aus team.

There is no price. And to even entertain it is just... nauseating.

If it happens, in whatever form, I'm simply done.

He substantially underperformed his high value contract in seasons 2023 and 2024 due to non football issues. The club devoted substantial resources to assisting him in working through his non football issues. Arguably we even prioritised his overcoming his non football issues over selection integrity in 2024 in playing Oliver when he was clearly no fit to play. At some point is it possible that the responsibilty for Oliver leaving the club lies with Oliver?

The above does not mean we give him away or subsidise his contract but that the trade return, cap space and clean air may equal a pragmatic return.

I think it might be best for both parties if he moves on.  The relationship isn't working.

I still don't think the Cats have anything to give us, aside from TWO established players (and that requires said players to actually want to leave - because let's face it, the Cats are playing, at worst, a prelim next year), so I am not sure how this gets done, even if Clarry wants it to get done. For whatever reason.

However, I will say this - IF this gets done - which could only be for a packet of chips - I think I might be done with footy for a while. The last couple of years have been exhausting. We went from being on the cusp of a dynasty to rabble in just 3 short years. Partly a media beat-up, sure, but also partly our own doing. The constant culture scrutiny, Goody beat-ups, our poor comms, the Petracca drama (which has not truly gone away) has me tired. I want to love following my club, but this shizen has me sighing every time I open my browser. You'd have to argue there is even greater impetus for a review, and I would expect to see more of an outcome. Who exactly is going to play for us next year? No Clarry, and ??? with Petracca (in general, but also what kind of player he'll actually be with his injuries) does not bode well for us. That's a bottom 4 finish, easy. (Very small) window closed. Max, May and Jack play out contracts for a rebuild. We were not far off a bottom 4 finish this year, and we had Petracca for half a year! And admittedly an underdone (but still good/v good at times Clarry). What a debacle.

Why can't we just be a stable team? Why don't the cats deal with this stuff?

Anyway, it's all a big IF for now, but as a 20+ year member I am not happy.

I’m with you on every point

Is that on the Dees or on Geelong, Connor Sports and Clayton Oliver?

normally the club shouldn't react to this type of gossip/speculation but considering the train wreck 2024 has been to date they should either get on the front foot and shut this down or perhaps they are genuinely looking to offload him for reasons alluded to over the last 12 months etc.

Swans are shopping around Errol Gulden .

To the Tigers apparently.

Jast as an aside.

Wonder what he’s worth?

He got roasted in the media, post GF, for his effort.

Wonder if pick 5 and Clarry pick(s) from Geelong would move the needle?

They’ve all played their part but I would hope the club would be aware of any meetings. Especially after telling the media ‘we’re bemused by this trade talk’…and the next day Clarance is meeting with Geelong

Out of courtesy, I think Oliver/his team should have provided a heads up

paging @Dannyz @Chook in Perth @goodwindees and the other recent Mailman (see what I did there Soundgarden fans) for the goss

Tell Geelong to [censored] off unless they can find two first round picks, and/or a gun young player.

If they can't, come back next year. Keep Clarry instead of trading him for cheap.

MFC I have your Membership line on speed dial, and I'm not afraid to use it. Let Oliver go on top of the Tracca nonsense and look forward to crowd sizes in the teens next year.

The bemusement makes us look stupid

If true then all our rotten eggs will have moved on by the time any pending incidents are finalised

WTF has the club done to these players if Tracc, Oliver and potentially Pickett want out... and Nibbler gone... this is a disaster and we deserve a explanation as we all thought we would be admiring some of the best players to put on our colours ever, for the rest of there careers

I feel much the same.  As supporters you get attached to following players and for some turn into champions. How can we rewatch / relive the 2021 GF if the stars that made it happen are playing at our most hated rivals.  What's the point of investing in the draft when it means giving up some of the best players we've ever had?

i've become desensitised to this stuff

if he stays, he stays. if he goes, he goes. get the best deal we can for our club is the main thing.

in any event, i'll be there rd 1 cheering on whoever is playing in the red and blue.

Cats mids are ordinary. They have no good trade capital.

A top 6 pick for a start required.

Oliver plays for Dee's in '25 or he sits the season out on leave without pay.

Four vastly different situations.

Good on you, but losing players of this calibre this just rips the soul out off the club

Feel for the younger supporters like my son hearing our best players don't want be there ... he said recently we should just get rid of them all in disappointment

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.
