If Melbourne is too much of a shambles how come it nearly beat his side with half of its side out injured?

That is the funny part. God I hope port lose to the crows this week and drop out of the 4. Would be wonderful

For two first rounders, he can stay right away from our club. Thank you for never coming.

2 first rounders? Aaaahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I don't know why people are so surprised. Do we not know how negotiating works? Of course Port are going to ask for something as unrealistic as this. Its how you start trade talks.

He's a contracted player whose likely to get a second all Australian and finish in Ports top 4 BnF.

Of course they're going to ask for overs as a starting bid.

If we do end up his preferred destination, which by the way I still think could be the case. Of course he'd have reservations with all our media attention but that will likely pass when things become clearer at the end of the season with our review etc. If he wants to get to Melbourne and genuinely wants to leave Port then we can certainly negotiate to make it a more favourable deal.

I think we look to split the pick 6/7 (with GC for example) and use a later first rounder for Houston so we still hold a top 10 selection.

I wouldn't be turning our backs on this just because Port are doing what they should by starting with the highest (unrealistic price).

If the club turned their backs on things as quickly as Demonland did, we'd not have made it out of the 19th century.

This is a very realistic take and one of the better posts on here.

Two first rounders for Houston. Thats ridiculous!!! He’s very good but not an elite midfielder.  Butters = two 1st rounders.  Houston = one 1st rounder. I’m glad he’s not coming onboard.  There’s real talent in this draft.  I would rather draft young guns like Langford, Lindsay or Lalor with first round pick.

Exactly. Maybe worth two 2nd rounds but at Port’s price no way

I thought this was dead in the water with ANB going home and all the Tracc talk

Bingo.

If you done rate the dees, hard to rate port. Ditto for giants.

My read on this is that Houston is on a relatively low wage contract and Port's demand for two first rounders reflects this. He is clearly a very good player and would add to our side, but we would have to bump his salary and fork out in picks.

I think we were probably reluctant to release Petty for a similar reason last season.

We are building again with young players. Another elite youngster with pick 6/7 will be invaluable. Premierships are built via the draft. 2019.

It's probably a blessing in disguise he's a quality player but not worth 2 first rounders and our backline isn't the problem it's our midfield and forward line that are a problem recruit players there. I like the sound of Membrey in our forward line quality player but I don't know how old he is? Hopefully we can get Port's first round pick which will be in the teens for Neal-Bullen add pick 6 and we could go up the order with those 2 picks. Go with the kids.

He'd be worth ANB and a late first.

They ask for 2

Offer AnB and a pick swap.

Ultimately land on ANB and pick 17 and it would be a fair swap.

Nor sure how we get pick 17 though...

Dan may have played his last game for Port… big hit on Rankine and knocked him out. Would be 4 weeks minimum one would think, could be more. Given he won’t be available early next year let’s offer a 3rd rounder….

He’s just practicing for next year’s Kings Birthday game

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
