Honestly, our priorities are to get some much needed Midfield depth in the draft and I wouldn't be surprised if we put our first rounder on 2025 on the table to secure 2 midfielders in the first round.

Totally agree with this. Whilst I would love Allen we need to really strengthen our mids. Two would be ideal . Hard to get everything you want but the need for a genuine back up ruck that can at least have some forward craft is glaring.  We are going to be smashed in that department for the next 3 weeks. Fulfill mids and rucks, avoid the multitude of dramas and injuries and 0we will be amongst it next year. The emerging young talent is both encouraging and somewhat unexpected.  Finally, to make Casey a competitive force again would be a bonus.

Allen has knee issues which will need to be managed for the remainder of his career. Buyer beware.

Not that I believe there is anything to this rumour

It may depend who they get as coach, Dean Cox would be a big chance.

Even if not a big chance, he is still big

Don’t think we’ll land either Waterman IMO is playing for a new contract

Allen does love the club, so I’d be surprised. Buyer beware is more to do with the cost and identifying is he an Andrew McLeod type who will be the ultimate professional in the management of his body and training loads to ensure he maintains fitness levels to enable you to play with knee issues

Allen and a few of the MFC boys looked very chummy post game.

Obviously that's not unusual. But I thought they were unusually chummy compared to the other players.

Agree with this. Noticed it at the time and was surprised by the warmness.

Personally i'd be hoping Waterman.

It's been a break out season for the mature forward who is now doubling the goal average and goal accuracy of Allen.

He also has Allen covered in almost every other metric you choose to look at bar the pressure / tackles inside 50 side, where even here he is running neck and neck with Allen.

PSD's 'buyer beware' knee issue post from earlier is also somewhat of a worry.  Another BBB in the long haul?

There were certainly rumours last year of us supposedly reaching out to Allen's management as there was some talk he was bit disgruntled with the club and us apparently set to offer a monster deal.

Could be some truth to this. Not that I think this will grow any more legs pr eventuate, but I have no doubt we've probably done some background check.

You trawling the player's family Facebook pages again Dazzle? Shame on you!

Oscar Allen is arguably the best young tall in the game. At 197cm he's a superb forward who kicked 53 goals last season, is super competitive and can ruck when needed. At 25 years of age, he's precisely the forward we need. Imagine a forward line of Allen, JVR, Pickett, Fritsch and co.

If you ordered Tom McDonald on Wish, you’d get Oscar Allen.

He’s a gun. I was watching him on Sunday and told my husband how much I’d love him at Melbourne next to Roo. He’s really bloody good!

Love the idea of having Allen. Deadset gun with a dodgy knee. I can't see him moving east. If he wasn't a fan of Simpson he'd be less likely to move now. Besides, we need a first-round mid to hit him lace out (and a ruck and a KPD etc etc). Shades of Ben Brown with a price tag but entering his prime.

You would be a bad list manager if you didn't at least inquire about him. Considering a top-line key forward has been our number one need for years i'm sure we've asked every year. Apart from May, Lever or Grundy have we really landed any stars?

Personally I would of put Max at FF start of last year.

We our in win premiership mode again next year so expect our club to offer everything pick wise for a key forward.

I remember Templeton and Moore, so get a nervous tic thinking about selling the farm for a tall fwd with knee issues. For me BBB paid for his contract with his 21 performance, I'd rather bring a Hogan back or Waterman. I'd also be looking closely at who is going to work well with JvR, kids progress this year has been excellent, I am so happy with the improvement in his marking, he's moved past the issue that stymied Weed and I think next year we'll be amazed at how our fwd line is. Petty has had a terrible year, but he knows how to play with JvR, thinking historically both Nic R and Matthew R had seasons with shocking yips. Petty has gone from 2023 12.1 to 2024 4.13. We have all seen that he is a marking beast, I strongly think we give him a mulligan for 24 and see what 25 brings. Re Mids one more is fine for me, I see Windsor as a mid as well as Rivers, For me recruiting needs to think about the May replacement, defence is the foundation of our recent history of form. So emphasis on a mid and a big gun defender.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
