Not happy that Bowey has bowed out. Big loss

Sorry L but he isn't.  His last few weeks have been bog ordinary.

Might give watching this one a miss to be honest…I go to every game live in Vic but for whatever reason just get too stressed out off the TV

That might be partly due to the way they video it these days.  There are numerous close shots where you only see the ball and maybe 2 players. The ball heads out of shot and you have no idea if it is a brilliant pass to a team mate or a disaster or whatever.  This heghtens the tension and I'm sure it is deliberate by Fox/7 for that reason. Certainy is not of interest to those who want to follow the game.

Not really... he's been pretty poor this year post injury.

Had it not been for Salem's injury I would have dropped him for AMW.

God speed to the ground ball in our back half tonight

God I’d love an upset in this. Fox are giving us no chance.

I’ve taken us on the line to get within 34pts plus all of May Viney and Rivers for 20 posessions. I don’t know if that’s good or bad. 😂

And WCW, as an ex Melbournite who cycled rain hail and shine from Sandy to work in Richmond every day, who has been living not far south of the Gabba in the Northern Rivers since 2011, the nights are cold. I’ve a neck warmer on, 3 layers and keep muttering about underfloor insulation for our house risen on poles. I’m in thermal fleece tops on the bike at present! Brrrrrrr

It's a big lions love in on Fox pregame show. Jonathon Brown , al Lynch. Ashcroft is back. Talking top 4 🤮 love to knock these p ricks off

Agreed, big part of our structure downback. Especially as we are playing 4 KPDs in the back. We will miss him.

I think it’s genius selection plan - tall defence to more than combat their strength.

With a flood defence cover for ground ball.

Lots of space for Kossie to play huge.

Can’t wait !

The boys appear to be 'ON' tonight.

Zero expectations so nothing to lose.

Just loosen the schackles a little Simon and aside from basic defensive structures behind the ball, no + ones early FCS and manic pressure when we don't have the pill.... let the boys play footy mate.

We just might get close and even pull off a miracle win subject to the above.

My prediction Is the Lions will score 5+ goals in q1 3-4 in the first 10 mins and that’ll be the game they won’t let us get closer than that margin. Can’t see a blow out.

Let’s hope we don’t hear John Denver too many times tonight 🤮

Unbelievable. I had to check and make sure that we were actually playing the lions tonight.

GIF by ESPN

works for commentators too.

I’m kind of pumped.

Like, can we actually win this thing or is it just the adrenaline you’d maybe feel in a moment when the plane hits crazy turbulence and starts to nosedive and you don’t know if you’re gonna make it, but maybe you will, and what a story if you do, Wowee, did you leave the iron on at home? Who cares?!

Go Dees ❤️💙

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
