Andy Moniz-Wakefield to Debut

Recommended Posts

Excellent development by the club. Waiting until he is in great form to give him his chance.

And he should get plenty of it down back!

I think this is great for the lad but geez we're going into the back end of the season with a very young and inexperienced side.

I'm absolutely stoked that Andy Moniz-Wakefield will be making his debut this Friday against Brisbane. I wouldn't be surprised if he lines up on Zac Bailey and McVee will get Charlie Cameron. There has been plenty of discussion in the last few weeks that AMW should be making his debut soon and his hard work and persistence has paid off.

Well done young man. 👏

Love this.
With a flag now off the table, it’s important that we use the remainder of the season to find out as much as we can about our list.

Go well Andy and well done on all your hard work to get here.

Hopefully you’re not the sub 🙄

Well done AMW!

Very happy to see so many players getting an opportunity this year!  We’ve got a glut of players on our list who have served a solid VFL apprenticeship and it’s great to see they’re finally getting their chance.

We need a mini-rebuild / refresh of the team and it’s exciting to see who will be part of it going forward.

Spoke to him at the Sponsors function, just told him to keep knocking on the door LOUDLY.......he is as tough as nails

And isn't it great to see the club reward him for his effort and persistence, A great outcome.  Gee we had 10 players 22 or under last game yet another junior. Go AMW.

Good coaching, Saty.

It is very sad on my part......like a surrogate parent.......met a skinny kid 3 years ago and watched him grow both literally and figuratively....he is great mates with Rooey and Koz so they will look after him pre game.

Very happy with this. I hope we see Windsor, Thorp, Andy, Woewodin, and Brown in the side for the rest of the season.

Seems Goodwin and Co. have finally given up on trying to rediscover 2021's form.

Great news, he really has worked hard to get here.

Well done.

He sure has worked incredibly hard. He’s also been patient; he was told quite a while ago he’d be debuting “soon” and has maintained a high level of enthusiasm all the while, it hasn’t dropped off at all. Besides that, he’s a lovely kid. Always smiling, always happy and has a great energy about him.

I see a very similar comparison physically and attitudinally to another indigenous player who was well loved by all Dees’ supporters, and who ironically also wore #45, Mathew Whelan .

i hope Andy’s career is as impressive as Matty’s

I’m positive family and friends up here in Darwin will be ecstatic. As will his former junior coach at Nightcliff. (Scotty will be chuffed). Long time coming but deservedly so. Did it the hard way kicking the dew off the grass. Long may you run Andy. ❤️💙

I don’t think Andy’s indigenous mate.

Fan bloody tastic and about time.

For those who may not have the time to see much of Casey...

Moniz has wheels, will look to bring run & carry overlap wherever possible.

That's assuming he gets the license to do so from the bosses.

Yes he can occasionally turn it over or push hard too early etc and get burned the other way, including from his own clangers on occasions.

That aside i love his attacking run & gun take-the-game-on attitude and the speed he brings on transition between the arcs in an attempt to get the ball quickly i50.

If we're going to play Rivers consistently through the middle from here then Moniz is a great foil in an attempt to make up some of what we might lose across HB in this regard.

He also has VG closing speed and plays a tad taller than he might appear with the ability to spoil / compete in the air with somewhat taller opponents.

That closing speed also brings fairly decent pressure / tackling on the oppo.

Aside from Rivers finally getting a berth through the middle, and while i'm not expecting immediate stardom more just a solid / speedy / attacking brand, this is equally the best news i've seen all year.

AMW has knocked down every door in the house. He has been in cracking form most of the year. Congratulations.

Last week we played a competition most 22 and under players  - 10- could be 11 this week? Wonder if Salem gets up?

We lacked enough wheels as a team. AMW has wheels as does Brown - and it goes without saying Windsor.. Kolt is no slow coach either.

We certainly are undergoing a team/list refresh.

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
