It's looking like a very quiet trade period for us.

Finger on the pulse, or merely conjecture on the first morning of trade period?

Exactly.

People will realise at the end we have no trade capital in terms of draft picks, or players other than ANB of any value. Tomlinson may find another home ....for another meaningless draft pick for us.

Honestly, considering recent events, I'd say that retaining all of Petracca, Oliver and Pickett could be considered a successful trade period.

Outside of Campbell, I wouldn't be surprised if we continue to look at Derksen and potentially another first round pick and that's all.

Tim certainly got grilled.

Thought he did pretty well, considering.   'Oh look that's a good question'  lol

Very clear we have no interest in Membrey. Houston not longer interested in us.

We are still some chance with the Derk

Lamb knows how to handle himself in front of a camera. 18 years as a copper, a former Detective Sergeant, state crime squad.  Nothing Twomey or any of the other media throw at him will phase him in the slightest. He'll have been on the receiving end of much bigger grillings from the judiciary than anything these guys could throw at him.

Bring in another pick between 10-20 and I’ll be pretty pleased, then let JT go to work.

Pick 5, pick 10-20, pick 28 (ANB - probably 33/35 after bids) in a good draft will further help our list re-build.

But Petracca, Oliver and Pickett weren't for trading, were they? So a successful trade period is convincing our best players on long term contracts to not go anywhere else? I guess "considering recent events" is the key expression here.

Jay Clark continuing with the 'don't go to MFC' message for oppo players.

MELBOURNE has interest in trading its future first-round pick for one of the Fremantle's first-round selections this year as the Demons look to double-up on talent in the upcoming draft.

Fremantle list boss David Walls on Monday confirmed the Dockers have interest in flipping one of their three 2024 first-round picks into a 2025 first-round selection, depending on how their quest to land trade target Shai Bolton fares.

"That's definitely a chance. There's a lot of clubs keen to get back in so we'll see what happens at the end of trade period and see how many of the first-rounders we're still holding and if we've traded or not," Walls told Gettable Trade Radio on Monday.

"If we're still holding three, we'd definitely look to roll one forward because we think there's a strong market for it and we could get overs."

Boy, the media interview with Tim Lamb came across as  pretty underwhelming and awkward. We really do have a communication problem.

Not sure what you were expecting?

Sounded fine to me.

Do you think so? It was awkward and basically admitted that we can't attract players. How many times did he say, 'Oh look, that's a good question'. Half a dozen. We really do suck at comms and messaging.

Sure is - mainly because nobody wants to come to us!

Head to the draft and start again next year I guess

Thought he came across ok. Nowhere near as bad as Andrew Dillon “supporting” the welcome to country ceremonies recently and on 3aw.

Who should we be trading in that won't be coming - or to put it another way, who should we be trading in that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg in terms of picks and salary?

He was on a hiding to nothing before he came out. He can’t really stand there and say we are great shape and are a destination club can he?

He didn’t create any new Trac or Clarry headlines, which is a pretty good achievement considering what’s gone on

Another train wreck interview! Showed no confidence in saying we are a destination club and it’s a reflection on no  decent free agent deals! You would think after all the noise on Oliver & Trac they would be ready with answers to install confidence! We’re is Richardson & Pert to answer these questions!

Yeah, maybe I was a bit harsh, but he is speaking on behalf of the club, which according to some, created this mess.

If Stringer does go to GWS — surely it’s primed to attack Brown/Riccardi and also helps ensure we nab Derkson!

If they hold that poor kid to his contract they deserve a smack — keep him he’ll languish in VFL and get bloody delisted and clubs may lose interest we see it often so I’m confident they’re just posturing.

Since Pies are looking likely for pick 13 now from GC as part of a larger deal for Noble then Houston — let’s hope TL turns 28 and or next year -1st round into a top 15 pick this year it seems like we’re determined too& Freo 10/11 is being muted if we nab that with just next years first rnd that’d be a huge win so let’s hope they think Dees are gonna be bottom 4 next yr!!! Who knows maybe we can turn our suit into 3pks or 2 in top 8-10 🔥🔥🔥

sidenote: LOVE Pies going all in for the now, typical of the passive-aggressive-narcissist McRae - they’re absolutely mortgaging any future already no real young talent bar Daicos I’m looking fwd to 2027 and beyond as it stands right now 😛

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
