Serious question. He has ties to both WA and SA, and has been linked to both states. He has a 5 month old baby now which puts a different slant on things, as many of us will appreciate.  He has stated he's homesick, but where is home?  If he states either/or, I would be less sympathetic.

At the moment his partner who is from Darwin is very happy with her current job and life here in Melbourne. Apparently Kozzy has expressed he would one day like to move up to Darwin. I think I heard if there was a Darwin AFL club he'd be keen to play there one day, but that was just a comment.

To answer your question, home is where family is. I'd imagine one of Eyre Peninsula in SA or Quairading in WA. For now he has his little family and sister here in Melbourne with all the support from the team and is signed on until the end of 2027. The homesick thing is blown out by media, he's probably mentioned a few times in front of supporters which media will run with as him expressing wanting to leave. Its not going to go away unfortunately.

Apart from supporting his family and perhaps looking to sign more indigenous players which Koz would like, there's not much more the club can do. I'm sure getting back into finals contention and Kozzy kicking bags in front of bigger crowds (hopefully!) will go a long way too.

This 'pie in the sky' idea would have to mean we've been in his ear all year, and he wants out but hasn't told anyone, I do agree with you there.

Edit: Just saying we absolutely have to chase something big if we will ever entertain trading Pickett or Tracc this year!

For the most part the big godfather deals are organised about 12 months out and more often than not get into the media early on.

One of the reasons a Trac deal simply couldn't be done is because it was far too late for most clubs to figure out how they could find $1.5m on a cap that has a 90% floor, then they still have to make a deal that satisfies us. Look out for Victorian clubs stocking up on early futures this off-season though.

Kozzy would be an easier prospect for most clubs but still difficult for Freo, who will be putting a lot of their chips into Shai Bolton and possibly Liam Baker. Eagles might be able to get it done but again unless there is a homesick Victorian rebuilding sides tend not to give away their good young players. On top of that player for player trades are pretty rare. You can essentially do a three way trade by on-trading the picks you get from one club to another club for their player.

So far we haven't seen any Big Fish being reported as being connected with us except for Houston which has gone cold.

I'd feel worse about Kozzy leaving than Trac but if he does it will be for picks.

But honestly if either of them leave the writing will be on the wall with this group and we should be putting everything into the draft to find our next generation anyway.

flagmantle are using all their picks to bring in bolton and, if they can, baker from the tigs

If they locked in those two as 3rd and 4th mids to Young and Serong and then backed one of their big bodied young mids (Johnson, Erasmus, Simpson) to develop as defensive midfield cover they'd be in the perfect position to make an aggressive Andy Brayshaw for Pickett trade.

That kind of straight swap would be ridiculed by the dream team players in the media but in terms of impact on games it's about the right value, especially with how loaded Freo's midfield could be.

I can't see Melbourne accepting anything less.

It’s a bull rush.  Houston now available.  Peatling definitely testing the market.  Derksen chooses Dees.  Parfitt now delisted.

Though I think the Dees can only really bring in max 2-3 players from other clubs   Want to keep 4 picks in this years draft

Yes to Houston but at what price … who and how ? How could clubs afford him ???

Yes to Peatling (if he was to leave GWS and we can beat the other 5 clubs in the offer) . Four year deal.  Wow he’s pushed up the rankings this year.  Best offer is future 2025 2nd round to GWS  It’s a battle !!!

Yes probably to Parfitt (delisted free agent). Does he have the motivation to work hard ?

Yes to Derksen. Given he’s played zero games, Dees would offer pick 60 to start. Probably be fair enough

Not that keen but a possible maybe to:

Tim Membrey (swap for Tomlinson)

Matt Owies

Matt Kennedy

No to … Macrae, Daniel, Ross, Taberner, Cerra, Ladhams, Jack Martin, Marchbank, Hind, Sam Day , Rosas (jnr),  Haynes, Stringer, Darling, Jernaine Jones, Tom Campbell, Soldo

Agree with all this, Owies, Membrey, and Kennedy would all be in our best 23!

Speed and spread is a coaching and fitness thing.

If we added numbers to the stoppage, we'll look quicker.

I'd also like Jagga Smith if he's available, for this reason too.

Melbourne

2024 record: 14th (11-12). List manager: Tim Lamb. Who’s gone? Angus Brayshaw (retired), Ben Brown (retired), Kyah Farris-White (delisted), Josh Schache (delisted). Out of contract: Marty Hore, Joel Smith, Adam Tomlinson. Current draft picks: 5, 37 (tied to Sydney), 45 (tied to St Kilda), 50 (tied to Western Bulldogs), 61. On the move? Tomlinson could defect after limited senior opportunities.

What they need: The Demons need help for key forward Jacob van Rooyen, while the eternal hunt for ruck star Max Gawn’s successor and back-up continues. They could also do with more midfield speed and a young key defender.

Trade/free agency targets: The Demons were at the top of Dan Houston’s list before the Port Adelaide star looked elsewhere amid the Christian Petracca drama. Could they try again? Melbourne are interested in untried Giants swingman Wade Derksen and Port Adelaide tall forward Ollie Lord, and may sign journeyman ruck Tom Campbell off the AFL scrapheap. They also had a look at St Kilda’s Tim Membrey.

Draft targets: Rivals believe the Dees might snap up Petracca clone Sam Lalor at their first pick, but if not, there are certain to be plenty of good options, including key forward Harry Armstrong. – Jon Pierik

Agree saw in an earlier post that a poster was circling Logan McDonald who I thought was a real chance for a big KP forward. But seems as though those 3 at their age and experience need another big unit to take No 1 defenders.

Am hopeful JVR and Turner Petty and Jeffo that 2 0f those at least become real units with 50 plus goals each year. Then with a third tall plus Fritta and Kossie and another 30 plus goalkicker say AMW who I think might Be better as a forward from our list than a half back. Let’s see.

Yes we need to throw money at a key forward (like Logan McDonald), a start up midfielder (like Luke Davies-Uniacle, a small forward (like Tyson Stengle) and maybe a few coaches, but we also need solid depth who can play a role. Look at Collingwood.

Get Will Brodie as midfield depth. Played for Gold Coast now Fremantle but has fallen out of favor and tearing it up in the WAFL. 26 years old. Reminds me of Luke Dunstan. https://wafl.com.au/player/will-brodie

Get Rory Lobb as ruck depth if doggies will pay some of his salary. 31 years old. Played for GWS then Fremantle now Bulldogs but has fallen out of favor (admittedly poor form AFL but good form VFL and appears better than what we have in the cupboard currently). https://vfl.aflmstats.com/player/Rory_Lobb

Not Logan Mac needs a bigger unit No 1 forward ahead of him so he gets a No 2 or 3 defender.

Thanks, first bit of potential draft gossip. Lalor would be a good get, hopefully his hammies won't give him ongoing concerns.

these trades are critical & you only need to look at what the lions weee able to bring in

Not only did most of the key players they brought in cost first round picks (and more ...), they mostly came across when the Lions were struggling and had plenty of draft picks and salary space to play with. Not all that different to what we did with the likes of Lever and May back in the day.

Lions also managed to get some go-home picks, e.g. Charlie Cameron.

Also mentioned we're looking at Owies. Not 100% sure how I feel about it.

Other interesting tid bit was the suggesting that battle could end up earning band two compensation which is at the end of the first round.

Has been some minor speculation a few years ago that Butters was considering us if Hinkley got the sack.

It’s well known that Butters refuses to settle down in Adelaide. Won’t buy a house, is not in a serious relationship etc.

He wants to be back in Victoria one day.
