Thanks for the welcome, I must admit it has been comical to see that the username has stuck for this long!

As per the norm, I'm happy to disagree about Houston's kicking so I'll leave it there.

I'd like to see McVee have a crack on ball but I just don't see it happening because Goody.

And as for Trac and Rivers, I think we'll see a split again with forward and mid. He's too valuable around the ball to be mainly playing forward. But I guess we'll see.

Either way, I think this off-season will be remembered as one of the most important for us given the state of our ageing stars and I'm intrigued to know what kind of moves we pull to ensure their longevity. Especially Max's.

McVee is a Sheezel clone with more pace. Goodwin needs to be tried on WAR CRIMES if the big Vee is not let to run rampant in the guts in 25'.

Tairon Ah-Mu. Has been very good for Haileybury this year and shown a bit when given a run at the Stingrays.

Thank you mate 🙏

Dominating school footy as we speak even as an under-ager.

If he continues on the upward trend with his development then I can see him being talked about as a potential top 20 pick next year.

Still a lot of water to go under the bridge but.

I imagine we may try give him a run at Casey next season if they think he’s up for it.

Fairly sure academy players can get exemption to play vfl? Kalani will also be the same probably

So there is some chance that we could get two top 20 players next year via F/S and our NGA. Even more reason to dangle our first rounder next year...

so for this off-season we're looking at a father-son and nga as probably late / rookie picks:

  • noah yze: tall half-back / inside mid, regularly getting in the bests for oakleigh
  • ricky mentha: small forward, now being re-tooled as a fast half-back rebounder

at the end of 2025 we're likely looking at early / early-ish upgrades:

  • kalani white: tall defender, already playing up an age level at under 18s champs, selected under 16s all oztrayan
  • tairon ah-mu: forward / ruck, dominating for haileybury as a 'junior' and playing under 18 football

if white and ah-mu are seriously talented - and, judging by write-ups etc, it would seem they are - i wonder how much we'll know about what we'll need to have in the kitty to get them before we make decisions regarding trading 'out' of the 2025 draft

You mean Waterman and his manager are. This clown has been injured, sick or ordinary bar 10 games of his career. He now wants more money. No [censored] policy may be required here.

He's better than any key forward we have at the moment.

Happy to take Oscar Allen off their hands. Would be a very handy pickup.

More chance due to the fact he is Victorian

Waterman is a WC name and will not leave

I’d take JVR, Fritsch and Petty(and he’s a backmen) ahead of Waterman. If he’s chasing a 5 year deal at 900,000 tell him he’s dreaming. My feel is he’s trying to extract more from WC but we’ll see

Anyone know Pittonet's situation?  Carlton seem to prefer the one ruck and De Konig is on the rise whereas Max is in the twilight of his career.  Surely more opportunities with us than them.

Not sure he's someone we should be looking at. 28 year old journeyman.

Would rather we look at a 22/23 year old who can in and do a role but also has room for improvement as a big man.

28 might be a little old, but he's often toweled up Max around stoppages.

That kind of deal at that money is reminiscent to Rory Lobb , Kurt Tippet type deals to me . Wouldn't tryst waterman to play at this level for many of those years

Absolutely, this type of Ruckman is exactly the one that stifles us.

If you can’t beat them, join them

Based on the rumoured trade targets mentioned in the media and Dland posters, it seems we are going hard for ready made key position players. I really like this strategy, as we all know it takes 2-3 years minimum often before they become genuine AFL players (JVR is a freak).

That makes me think we may try get two draft picks inside the top 20ish and take two midfielders, given they can often have an impact much quicker.

I would take Allen also but he's their captain.

He’s been the best forward in the comp at stages this year and the trickiest match up May’s played on.

Its a dangerously small sample size but there’s a reason Geelong and us are both opening the cheque book.

And when big Sav gets 700+ on vfl form, there’s a genuine contest to sign Josh Battle and so on the value of anyone tall and even remotely good is a lot of money.

I may be in the minority but I'd take Waterman in a heartbeat if we could get him.

He's also from Geraldton (ie country WA), not going anywhere.

Buyer beware taking someone who is overpriced just because they are available. Football clubs plan their list builds with the juniors from 14 years of age on. Some develop others don't and occasionally a surprise contracted player comes up and wants to go home. Don't stray from the plan just because a surprise comes up that doesn't fit your needs and get into a bidding war.

I can see that attraction for Geelong as Hawkins must be in his last year, and Cameron isn't getting any, younger. He will be 32 at the start of next season.

IMO you have you club elite, the class and skill or A graders. Mid range and the role players. We have a lot of role players and maybe too many of them. Windsor is class and has looked that way since pre season as is McVee and Rivers is now staring to show what he has got.  But we need more class and elite decision makers down back and in the midfield including the ruck.

You can never have too many silky mids.

For the money and length of contract it would take I’d prefer we chased others. You’re right though, someone’s paying overs for him

Waterman’s manager is doing the right thing. He’s put out the bait. Dees have probably bitten. Waterman is looking to cash in now on his good form.  It’s up to the Eagles to stump up the cash to keep him. Presumably he’ll stay but it’s all like poker with some bluff and counter bluff moves.

Just like Schultz did to Collingwood 😂😂😂

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
