I see shades of Cam Pedersen...

Hope he can be a useful gap filler like Cam was over the few years up to '18

JvR out has me cringing thinking about Petty, BBB as 2nd ruck/fwd, Petty's been hopeless this year, BBB better for structure has 1 competitive effort this year only...

Do I recall correctly Peds playing starting ruck with Max out (??), and having a cracker. Regardless, I knew him as "clunker" as he was a decent clunk. Denfitinitely got the most out of his 193cm.

I miss Cam! 😢

There seems to be multiple reports, some praising his agility and speed and others saying it's a weakness.

What's your thoughts?

His agility for a tall is good in terms of clean at ground level. His lateral movement is where think he lacks agility. Pace has improved from last season but still wouldn’t say he’s quick, what they may be referring to is his explosion off the mark

I would take a Cam Pedersen right this second.

Except that he is only on a 6 month contract  .There will be no Jefferson type development phase with him .He either shows he is up to speed this year or he is out .

No, JT said he is a long term project and I am certain you will see him get at least next year to develop. He is a year behind Jeffo in the system, but he may not be that far behind him physically, as he looks a big lump of a kid. Will just need AFL conditioning and playing in our game plan.

I like the selection on type.

Whether its a 6- or 18-month contract for these players, can both parties agree to extend the contract at any time?

Yes.

I believe our stirring win over Adelaide away in 2017 might have been one such occasion.

Chad Warner went pick 39

Gulden went pick 32

No one saw any value in them before that

Who cares what others think?

Gulden was a Swan academy member. No one else had access to him really.

But generally I agree.

Like the comments from JT,  and he is a lump of a lad.
when does he come over and start training.

we need WCW and other track watchers to run their eye over our new man.

insights a plenty I hope. Doubt he will play this year but he will have an extra 6 months on the draft selection this year.

Just looking at him he is ahead body wise of Jefferson, it will be more fitness wise but in his favour he has played senior football, must admit I like his aggression.

🤨 I was asking Pennant for his opinions on him given his involvement in the WAFL....

That's a great call. A Cam Pedersen level player would be a good outcome.

...though we've got enough 'wingers' and one of these might be a better fit:

Also Hayden McLean - similar body type and role to Luker - was a pre-season supplementary signing.

IF he gets a run this season, barring another catastrophic run of injuries, I would be very pleasantly surprised.

Casey has a developing ruck - Verrall but a competent back up would be handy.

Good to hear - he could try out for MCC Cricket and Lacrosse teams, in his "spare time".

And Cowboy Neale played when?  The 1960s game was very different, almost unrecognisable, to 2024.

"Trained" twice a week that is had a few kicks and ran a few laps before a few beers, and a smoke for some

I certainly like his aggression and he seems to like laying heavy tackles too.   I hope he can get to the required fitness level.

6 months seems odd, to resettle a player across the continent.

Do we know if extension is an option without going to the draft??

As above, love his aggression and tackling - yes I know it is a highlight reel.

Already ahead of Schache and possibly  FullArton (though I have not seen him in  action).

Mono listening to JT’s interview he remarked that they have been following Lukers progress for some time and view him as a long term prospect. We will free up a Rookie spot at the end of year when Judd McVee is upgraded to the Senior List so should be a spot for him. JT also mentioned that Luker will be moving in with The Kolt and his host family.😁

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
