I have a feeling this year will be his last. There will be a massive reset this year I think and the next C and VC will be picked as part of that. Let Gawn concentrate on his twilight.

Surely Petracca and Rick are front of the list for new captain/vice.

The subject of Max and leadership will be an interesting watch over the remainder of this year and into next.

Since our flag, I have held the belief our leaders and senior players can be targeted and the shoulders slump quite quickly.

There would be a lot of frustration in the dees camp right now and Max would be feeling it. The vision of May & Gawn from the weekend shows tensions are at an all time high

Just an aside:

there’s a video going around of Max riding a bike with his young child, who’s actually singing the Carlton theme song😳

This Sunday’s match will be Max’s 100th as MFC Captain.

🥳 🎉 🎊 ❤️💙🎊 🎉 🥳

Let’s hope we’re celebrating a win for Captain Max’s special milestone.

Fun fact: also on 99 games is David Rodan as goal umpire. He’s our fave goal umpire so here’s hoping he officiates at our match. 🤗

Bump.

I know it's easy to make big calls after a win like today but this guy continues to push his case for being the greatest ruckman of all time. Up until last year I thought it was splitting hairs between him and Cox but I reckon Gawn has him covered now.

I've never seen a ruckman take control of a game like Gawn has. He has no right to be this durable and athletic for a giant who is going to be 34 at the end of the year.

One of the greatest ever, irrespective of positions. Averaging a career high 21.6 disposals at 33 years old, pushes himself harder than anyone and has publically defended everyone at the club from our out of forms superstars to young players struggling with form and even his coach.

He has set an example on and off the field with the standards he has demanded from himself ever since mistakenly waltzing into his first training session with a Winfield red and a Quarter Pounder. A true giant of the red and blue.

Those 3 big marks in the last 5 minutes allowed us to keep the ball forward and take 20 seconds off at a time.

Love you Max.

The 2009 AFL draft for us was considered a disaster after our 4 first round picks were duds but then turned out we got a GOAT and currently our most effective forward as well.

would love to see him win the brownlow

reckon he's a chance this year. he's very likeable for a start so umps likely to give him votes (i notice they are not giving as many frees against him this year). and he won't have clarry or trac taking votes off him

Not so sure Trac or Clarry won’t take some votes now that we have styled into a more reliable output and game plan.

Remember they would have been a little unsettled starting marches again and are now both nearer absolute consistency in output and performance. Others are loving and doing their part from older to younger which puts more pressure upon our stars.

Remember the season is a marathon not a sprint.

Let’s hope Maxy gives the Brownlow a real shake and we continue our revival which all seem to be completely in sync and enjoying the journey. This could be a great year yet as there is a it of solidity Ana small amount of toughness in the last 2 rounds. Remember small things grow …. ??

Finals maybe ?

I have a photo taken a few years ago  : my son Chris and Max.They were at a mutual friend’s party..They went to the same school and Chris is a mate of Max’s older brother Adam.I reckon Chris reluctantly ( because it was a party and not a MFC function ) asked Max to pose for a photo for me - being a life time supporter. And he agreed. Now that photo of my son and our Premiership Captain sits on the sideboard in our house. And now that I think about Chris doesn’t have it on display at his house - l must ask why!

It needs to be centre e place on the main living room wall with a spotlight on it. And a sensor/pressure alarm system.

Great story and a damn good thing to have. I'm jealous.

Max yesterday as good or better than he was at the time of said picture.

Top story.

Right now Max and Xerri are fighting it out for the 2025 AA. Depending on the stat source you can mount an argument for either one. A good chance the AA selectors will go with 1 ruck this year. Although if both players keep this up you have to find space in your side to fit them both in. Both are in top 10 players (supercoach, afl player ratings)

Id say the only thing Max has going for him is that MFC have won more games and he has beaten a good share of rucks. The main thing going against him is that Xerri absolutely toweled him up earlier this year and got 10 coaches votes for his performance too.

One will be on the bench if need be, on current form he won't miss out

Kane Cornes said a week ago that three rucks are in the best dozen players in the league. I assume he was talking about Gawn, Xerri and De Koning. Two of them will make the team on current form.

Xerri is very good. But how many games has he won North? The answer is a lot less than Gawn.

Gawn will have his chance at redemption later in the year, and I bet my bottom dollar that Gawn will beat him.

TDK can at least play forward so IMV has his hand on the ruck / fwd role, which is probably on the bench. Xerri or Gawn can’t play forward so it’s gonna be one of them for #1 ruck position.

There's a long way to go. TDK already carrying injuries. Gawn and Grundy, Gawn and Naitanui made the same AA teams in 18,19,20 and 21. Likely if they maintain current form Gawn and Xerri would both make it.

Perfect 10 in the coaches votes again for the big fella.

He missed seasons in his early days due to injuries.

So his body is probably 32 years old?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
