Toby Greene's 3 times the footballer, and I'd probably rather Jake Waterman, Will Hayward, Ollie Henry, more complete players who provide more than goals.

Good second half for Fritsch, but why did it take a new role for him when he had the easy match up for a half and could've found the ball if he was willing to lead up every now and then and provide anything more than a witches hats effort when the ball hit the deck?

Fine if it was a one-off but he was the same against Geelong, the same against Richmond. He's too talented and vital to just be Bayley the Goose out the back for half a game each week. And if that's what he'll be we may as well have him as sub so someone else can have a go for the first half.

There's no denying he's our most talented forward but he can't have invisible halves with really poor effort level. And I get the supply is bad and the forward line dysfunctional but he has chances to impact and doesn't give it his best.

I'm usually with you on Fritta's defensive game in tackling terms, but you're way off here IMO.

He’s goaled more weeks than not but with 3 talls, Fritsch, Pickett and Tracc last night he’s not often in position to score.

That's precisely why I reckon you're off about Fritta.

It's a bit feast or famine given modern ball movement, and the fact we like to play a deeper defensive set up with less emphasis on inside 50s and more on rebound 50s.

How we replace JVR will be interesting.

Do we go with a tall (options seem to be Brown, Fullarton, Schache...?) or do we go with someone smaller (Tholstrup, Laurie)? Either way, you'd expect Turner/Petty will be doing all of the second ruck work.

Assuming he’s available, do we put the Salem to midfield experiment back on the agenda?

I think Trac needs to spend far more time up forward as he’s a natural forward who will get plenty of looks each game. But we’re robbing Peter to pay Paul.

There's no reason why the plan to play Salo through the midfield won't resume with his return. That was the plan had he not been injured.

Unless we go Rivers into the middle. But given the pre season, I think it'll be Salem into the midfield rotation.

BB the obvious choice in any other match, but wonder whether the time spent in transit would be something the club would rather avoid, given the low-risk the Eagles pose.

With McGovern looking a likely out, the need for an extra tall is negated.

Except for the need for a second ruck.

They could use petty and maybe tmac, but neither have taken a centre stoppage ruck contest this year and I both have had recent foot injuries- do we want to risk them getting smashed at centre bounce?

I wouldn't mind to see verell get the call up.

i reckon i've seen petty take one, but i don't particularly want to see him go in there regularly

it's either fullarton or verrall you'd think

Of course.

Likewise, would like to get a look at Verell. But I get the feeling it could be Schache, given his decent form at Casey before his injury.

@WalkingCivilWar do you have any inside gossip on whether they're training in WA this time around?

My 5 yr old son is super hyped to see the dees so I'm keen to hear about any opportunities there might be for player interaction. How early before bounce down do the players usually warm up before heading back down the race?

Cheers.

I’d say there’d be a Captain’s Run on the Saturday. I can find out tomorrow if this is the case and if so, what time it starts, then post it here.

The players warm up about an hour before the match. A good idea is to get into the ground early, when gates open, and make your way down to the fence. The players will often come to fence for selfies and signings during warmup, especially if there’s little kids.

Missed the last 2 with injury, so probably doubtful.

We won.

I have no doubt, I’m just interested keeping an eye on it for games. Is there a website?

Tom Morris on radio this morning said Turner may have a calf issue.

Going to be interesting if he and JVR are both out at once.

Schache has an an Achilles injury I thought? Fullarton also came off with a knee complaint in the casey game too.

Maybe Jefferson and Verrell get a call up.

JVR has not been in hot form but he carries a big role as 2nd ruck. Max will need support.

If Disco and JVR miss Verrell and a small/medium would suffice. We might not get a better chance to test Verrell and some air cover for Max feels timely.

If Salem is in we can also afford Tracc forward a touch more than normal (though maybe not the extent we saw last week)

Not a bad thing for JVR to get a forced rest, luckily the week we play the Eagles who also have their own injury issues.

If Will Verrall is fit I'd like to see him get a run for a week to see how he goes.

Otherwise it would have to be Fullarton, given I doubt either Turner or Petty will be any good in the ruck.

If Turner is out perhaps they will bring McAdam in and go a bit smaller.

Don't tease me saying Jeffo might come in with Verrell...would absolutely love to see that!  Surely McAdam is in the conversation for this week if he's fit and ready, that is if both Disco and JVR are out.  Is he a likely in yet or not enough proper game time at Casey yet?  I feel like he needs to come in to the top level to get his wheels turning properly but that is based on absolutely nothing but me wanting to see this guy come in and bring something exciting to the team.

Waiting to see if Darling gets rubbed out too...hmmm

Anyone know if Yeo's back this week?

He and Waterman (who will be back) make West Coast a lot better.

I think Yeo will miss.

Unsure about Waterman.

He’s listed as “test” for this week. We’ll see, I guess.

I'm not convinced we need to replace van Rooyen with a tall if Petty and Turner both play. Tholstrup didn't look too off the pace in his sole appearance. I wouldn't mind seeing him given a second game.

If Turner is out with a calf injury, though, we definitely need another tall to come in.

Ruck relief aside I'd be playing McAdam. TMac as stand in ruck relief with Turner dropping down back when TMac is in the ruck.

Should win this easily. If not we have some way bigger issues.

Might be worth giving Jeffo a run. A weak game, away from home with little expectations. See if he can play and give him a taste of it.

I would go with something left field this week in the ruck and ruck with Sparrow or another mid. Just nullify and get to work at ground level (like the Richmond blueprint has shown) Only 1 week till JVR is back so it is temporary.

Going with a player who is about 6 foot would be an…interesting move

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
