Davey and Robbo?

ROFL

yeah, cos they are in the Hird/Judd/Pavlich class arent they,,,

They arer very giod players, but not superstars. Not champions. MFC doesnt produce champions. Well not while Daniher and Fagan are in charge anyway

Not many teams do have champions. I don't regard Pavlich as a match-winner just yet..he doesnt quite have the ability to turn a match on its head like a jono brown or even an aker a few years ago. Hird and Buckley are way past their peak and are nothing more than good players anymore. And you are confusing the word 'produce' and 'draft'. If there is anyone to blame, you should look at our recruiting manager for not picking up a superstar on draft day. 5 years down the track, you will be complaining Yze_Magic that Petterd and Frawley are not superstars whereas I will be stoked if they turn out to be potential all-australians. And theres no doubt Neitz is a superstar...whilst he is past his days...he is still on our list and if ur going to count hirds than u have to count neitz. Pavlich has to learn how to tackle first before he can belong on that list if you ask me. Its a blemish on his game..take notice next time he plays...he doesnt know how to.

i was too shocked after reading that line to read any more of your post.

I am sure they do

In fact I know they do

YM. In your earlier post you said 'it's a joke if there is a specific plan for Newton, and not one for the other youngsters', then in the post I have quoted you say you know they have plans for all the youngsters. These posts are 7 minutes apart. Would you make up your mind please, or are you just making stuff up so you can continue your mud-slinging at the club? I think it is the latter.

Every youngtser at every club has specific plans. This is nothing new.

What I meant was the plan for Newton is obviously too strict. Garland can walk into the Demon side, so where is Juice?

are you sure? i was 99% sure he was on a 1 year contract.

He's DEFINITELY contracted till the end of 2008.

it wouldnt make much sense to put a young (18-19 yo) KPP with obvious talent who spent the first year after being recruited with a back injury on a one year contract would it? of course you'd give him 2 for developments sake...

Congratulations, i read that, that was good

Its a shame they could not spell Dappa right- 'Dapper'

DISGRACE!!!!!

(He turned 20 a month ago)

From what I remember at the end of last year, popular opinion was that they weren't terribly impressed with him, but recognised both his talent, and the fact he'd been injured, and it was ND who said "I'll give you one more year to show something." Up until the end of last year he hadn't even played regularly for the Sandy seniors.

So right or wrong the demons supporters blazed away, and if Finks is right it seems the footy department made a good call... I reckon if we didn't have a hold of him, he'd get picked up by another club at year's end.

i was always under the impression he was only contracted to this year, so its a felief that we have another year to see what he has

but, ill be disppointed if he hasnt debuted this year

Why? What are you basing your right to query the quality?

I reckon it might be a fair thing to query the validity of planning which has a team winning 4 1/2 games of the last 21 times it has been paraded before the General Public. This is more especially so when the list of playing personnel is generally reputed to be of above average quality. In anyone's terms this is failure.

where do you get 4.5 of last 21 from?

One from 12 this year (NAB-inclusive) and 3 1/2 from the last 9 in 2006.

No surprises here. Same old 'wounded' posters telling us of the doom installed for a player on our list.

It's up to Juice if he chooses Sandy over MFC. The MFC has a very solid plan in place to have him play in the Red&Blue. And I can assure you that Juice has had his input and understands what he needs to deliver to play in the Red&Blue.

But to all the doomsayers, keep it up, you're entertaining. Boring. But entertaining.

....and congrats DD on being quoted in Inside Footy.

needs to deliver............. are you kidding? if he s good enough to play in the seniors now and most of us think he is , why not play him? [censored], id get a game at the moment the way we re travelling.

OK, our season is, more or less, shot.

So surely, if the Football Department has a plan for Newton, they will not budge on that plan for the sake of giving him a run earlier than planned.

Juice has only just started playing good VFL footy for the first time in 2.5 years on our list. He only started playing good VFL reserves footy at the end of last year. He has been a slower developer than most. So I am more than happy to have him spend time at Sandy so that he is genuinely ready to play AFL.

Different players, and different personalities, need to be handled differently by the coaching staff. Human beings aren't 'one-size-fits-all'. Just look at the posters here of various personalities, intelligence and knowledge.

i reckon that's a really good point! great alternate way to see it. if our season is over that gives us even more lattitude to stick with our long-term plans and see them out in their duration. if we were 6-2, 7-1 with neitz robbo out and miller playing poorly, we'd have to rush him in and sacrfice long term stability.

i like where you're coming from

Posted
Miller has kicked a career high 7 goals

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

i love it how you see this as a positive. averaging less than a goal a game as a player who should be in his prime.

I don't regard Pavlich as a match-winner just yet..

you don't watch many other games than the Melbourne ones do you?

Fantastic post Bob, I couldn't agree with you more......

Nothing is ever black and white, and the club would know a hell of a lot better then us whether he is, or when he will be, ready for the huge step up to the AFL.

You would think that if they have a plan for the kid, then given the state of season 2007 there is no reason to break from it now.

And from the sounds of it he is definitely heading in the right direction for himself and the club for the long term and I honestly believe he will play this year.

But it is a long haul, and as Bob said so well, not all players graduate or progress at the same pace. This stands throughout their careers as well.

If he needs time, and apparently he does (or at least did), then better he gets it now than later, when the just game will be more difficult.

so ..we have a season thats shot ? any dissenters on that ?

But we have plans !! undoubtedly.. and they are really workinng well so far !!...just an observation.

So we stick to our guns and cut off nose to spite face...by not 'revising' said plans.

Its not end of world stuff to stick a kid in a team....lots of others do it all the time....if it works..leave him there..if not... put back in oven for a bit longer..

or lets just wait til say...oooh maybe round 7, 2009 or something. We have no luxuries of keeping talent hidden away for ever...let the kid play...see what he can do

i was honestly worried about newton's devlopment. he's not able to push into the senior team and doesn't look like a place will open up any time soon.

but the fact that he's contracted next year is a big relief to me. it means he's fine and you all can stop worrying about his devlopment. he's young and will make it.

the only worrying thing would be if the demons delisted him at years end which isn't possible

good post

On the Newton subject, I think i have mentioned it previously but wasn't Mathew Lloyd dealt with in a similar fashion? Sheedy kept him back for a bit longer than what people thought was needed to get him 100% as opposed to 80 or 90? not that tyhey are the same type of player but I hope you catch my drift.

fwiw i dont think that they are entirely dissimilar...the respective club websites have them at pretty similar heights and weights too...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
