Out of contract and seemingly out of favor at a very strong GWS backline.

If we are going to persist with Petty and Turner forward, should we look at this kid?

He is a very good footballer and GWS obviously like him as they have tried to play him in other positions to fit him into the side but he is an intercept backman and plays it very well.  Only 25, has shown he can play at a very high level in the AFL, only issue is it's just not an are we really need.

Sort of plays a similar role to Howe - that not-a-tall-but-not-small?

yeh exactly, i really like him. but we do have so many of this player that we are throwing defenders forward, so it is hard to spend capital in that area.  Just a classy player that is available.

He’s only 184cm. I’d love him at the dees for some more run off half back.

Very good footballer and exactly the right fit in terms of outside skill set.

Have always rated him highly.

We need him; we have the spaces; creates another alternative to our mesmerised long-bomb conundrums up-front. Get him - blend him, keep ingenious options open.

In simple terms you have to look at our best 26 and say who is bottom 10. Then you ask is he a better player for a particular role than someone in the bottom 10.

If yes... go for him

I'd be disappointed if the recruitment team have not got a secret spreadsheet where this exercise is applied to every bottom 10 across the league. You can easily add in the "gettable" factor when you've identified your targets to determine the prime targets.

Still, I’d classify him as a running half back, more so than a player like Howe who is a medium who plays tall.

Yes.

Unrestricted FA as well I'm fairly certain. Can play wing as well and is an excellent user of the footy.

yes he is, and you would think we can offer him more $$ than GWS as their books would have to be pretty tight

if he isn’t the GWS starting team should we really be looking at this player?

We really should be looking to take someone that will immediately improve our top end. KPF / midfielder etc. Our defence is solid and isn’t really an issue area.

So pass for mine.

Whitfield, Ash, Himmelburg, Idun and Perryman are the names getting a game ahead of him, all guns.  I agree about the other areas, but this kid is a walk up start in most teams in the comp.  Unfortunately no KPFs available worth spending $$ on.

He's been injured to start the year. Was best 22 last year and will work his way into the team shortly. Has played >20 games for them each season for the past 3 years.

Can play wing and back and actually think we're thinner than we release for medium defenders. Salem is getting on, we've lost Brayshaw and with an injury to Bowey we are relying on Howes and Woewodin to hold the fort who have both looked put of depth at times. We have nothing beyond that beyond Hore and developing AMW in that position as Casey. Then we have Langdon/Windsor/Hunter as our wingers with Hunter maybe gone at seasons end.

Fills a very significant need for us with Rivers and potentially McVee playing more midfield time, and Salem constantly injured. We should absolutely be looking at him if his body is in good nick.

He played his first game in the VFL last week coming back from injury rather being out of favour.

So I'd imagine he'll be in the team in the coming weeks and will clearly be a required played going forward for GWS.

Overlooked Brayshaw. Changes my view slightly, but it has given Howes an opportunity to develop.

Indeed, watching Howes get a chance has been great. Perhaps acquiring Cumming could also release Rivers into the midfield where I think he has massive potential.

These are the types of decision we need to get 100% over the next 3-5 years, to stay ahead of the game, whilst The Map of Tassie take all the young talent.

Look at young kids who have been in the system (30-40 Games) So they are ready to step up immediately.
Recruiting will be the number one job for the next 10 years.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
