Geelong gave up 105 points against a depleted and also inaccurate Carlton. We won't allow that. Geelong's conversion rate was off the charts. Unlikely to happen next week.  Add to the fact they're due for a loss we will win.

Maybe some truth to that 🤞

Was at the MCG today so I haven't seen highlights or the replay yet.

The Blues kicked 2.8 in the 1st quarter. Some real profligacy in front of goals. Too many green footballers in for Carlton at the moment. Still largely pleased with the Blues effort, lacking a bit in execution and football IQ in parts though.

A Carlton with McGovern, Saad, Marchbank, Cerra, Martin, Motlop and Fogarty would have certainly accounted for Geelong today.

Sure the Cats are a polished and capable side but not so sure how they will fare later in the season when the wear and tear of the season takes its toll and the whips are cracking in September ... 🤔

Nay & tomorrow when they do it just won't feel the same.

What happened to Luke Darcy not working when his son was playing?

Yeah surely they could get someone else for specials.

On another note it's nice to hear Jason Bennett & Alastair Nicholson calling together

Absolutely. Ain't it just about the clearances.

Yes, our mids need to be at their best. We're competing against 2 other contenders & it's one of our strengths.

As for clearances, the Cats were belted in the first half but comfortably ahead on the scoreboard.

...an interesting 2 weeks in a long season coming up.

Wow. Jackson took a one grab mark! Couldn’t do that when he played for us.

Neither can Van Rooyen!

Plus Beveridge to be sacked before end of year is looking very real!

It's not as if it's called the Anzac Round. A few sides don't even appear to be wearing Anzac related guernseys.

Isn’t it literally called that?

We’re going to have to play about 300% better than what we’ve dished up the last fortnight if we’re a chance to beat Geelong - who just beat my expected premiers for 2024.

Yeah Geelong are due for a loss, but so were we in rounds 8 and 9 2021 and we kept saluting.

I don’t like them, but full credit to Geelong for their impressive rebound. They have a phenomenal coach IMO.

Every single time a Carlton player kicks a goal, they celebrate like he’s kicked the winner in a Grand Final.

I say in most instances it is a genuine passion for club, its good to see, wasn't always the case. I reckon it played a part in the crazy run into September last year and this Blues side has developed a real esprit de corps in 2023 [repeatedly punches the CFC monogram on my polo shirt as I sip my chamomile tea 😁]

Hmmm...you may well be right on that WWSW. I've never taken any notice of the logos or ads that are painted on the ground. I guess it makes sense for the AFL to milk it for all they are worth.

You make good points. Just think Geelong are playing to their absolute capacity. At the moment we've got half a dozen consistent contributors and that's it! Still 5/2. Viney, Petracca and Clarry can all improve. There's only one way for JVR and Petty. Fritsch to a lesser extent. I think we're ready for a big challenge.  We were rusty off the bye against Richmond.  Second half was good. Just get a sense we're ready to launch!

Maybe.

Agree on his skill set.

But if I was a dockers fan I'd be getting a touch worried about his professionalism, specifically his commitment to his conditioning.

Doesn't look elite fit and strong to my eyes.

Should be by now given he hasn't missed any big chunks out with injury and has had 4 AFL  preseasons.

He kicked a set shot at one stage last night and the close up of him was not flattering.

but it might not be due to professionalism. Sean Darcy carries extra timber as well so perhaps Freo value the extra size from a ruck contest perspective.

I’ll tell you who is fit - Blake Acres. He almost single-handedly got Carlton up yesterday. His ability to still have bursts of speed very late in games is unbelievable.

I find it fascinating that 2 teams essentially watched him walk.

Agreed. And he seems to be a player thst thrives on the big stage in big moments. Something he didn't have much of a chance at St Kilda and Fremantle. Was an awesome pickup for the Blues. I can put up with his occasional wayward kicking because he provides so much in other areas. He is becoming a cult figure at Princes Park.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
