Thank you! Now how to fix it??

He has to start to change angles and jump, standing in the same spot you become predictable he's been in the system long enough, Stafford should be able to pick that up for gods sake.

That game was a total nightmare.

They were playing at a super high intensity with manic pressure, we looked tired and lacked any sort of fierceness and we just couldn’t handle it.

The umpires were so disgustingly bad it was like some sort of bad dream.

Lions seem to be very good at getting inside our heads, winning the psychological battle yet again, they love to play dirty and rough us up, and I was disappointed we couldn’t fight back.

I can’t stand them and despise losing to them.

Um no great loss, just ensure we get great draft picks

We don’t need draft picks. We’re in the window “apparently”.

We need a key or Mid sized key forward with natural forward craft.

Persona Non Gratis! end of convo!

His fan club will come out to defend him as usual but we are playing 17 on 18 with Bayley out the Back Fritsch in his current role. He’s nearly impossible to stick with on a well timed lead, so can he just once lead up at the ball? Give his mids a simple target and let the other forwards cruise in behind. Spread the backline.

He’s a player capable of so much more but his entire game is attempting to get goal side and have it laced out. He has to be challenged to grow as a footballer.

Guess I'm in the fan club then.

Fritsch is the icing. Not the cake. An easy target in a game like this.

Thanks Simon Madden

Move on people move on. Lets hope that was our worst performance of the year.

So it’s Max’s job to stop 3 Brisbane on ballers from reading his taps? Or is it the job of our 3 on ballers to get their hands on the footy?

If our mids can’t read Max’s taps, then heaven help us. They’ve played together long enough.

So you don't think the mids let him know where they want it, it's call communication every midfield does it also if you do the same 3 times and getting the same result you do something different.

That's the one I'm interested in...

Beaten up by three good teams, but got up against one with backs against the wall.

Can't say there was a lot to like:

The defence was excellent overall. Brisbane were dominating with the ball and had plenty of times to plan their entries. McDonald, May et al all stood up.

Windsor had a few blistering moments. He's as quick as Hunt but can actually change direction and bounce under pressure.

There were multiple moments where Fritsch didn't pass to JVR. Wonder if there's an issue there. Particularly poor in the last quarter when JVR was alone in the square.

Speaking of Van Rooyen, he has dug himself a mighty hole this season and needs to be big enough to get out of it. Teams are noticing him, and he's struggling to find space. 1.3 goals and 2.8 marks a game this season is a big disappointment. Extrapolate that and he kicks 30 for the season. He should be ticking past 40 at this stage of his development.

Tholtstrup has some assets, but he was naive to the extreme and simply isn't ready. Stop fending off in your first game mate. Get the ball, think smart.

Chandler worked hard, I guess. As did Langdon. Billings was awful early but had a few moments later.

Max was good, but playing average opposition. Bizarre that he was often the first to get to the clearance of our mids.

Our guns were horrible. Petracca, Viney, Oliver just nowhere near it at all. Their worst game together ever, and each of them hasn't been individually this bad for years. The lack of depth underneath them is frightening. Same deal off half back with Bowey and Salem both out, and Hore a few weeks away too. Taj played back (he's not a defender at all) and next week we're looking at AMW or going super tall with Disco.

The late flurry of goals flattered us. Brisbane beat us up. Quicker to the ball, better in the air, played in front in defence all night, harder at the tackle.

The bye is well timed, but it has been six games. I'm disheartened to see us bookend a good patch with anonymous efforts against Brisbane and Sydney.

The comp is weak this year, but there is lots of work to be done to make the four and win a final.

C Hit to opposition

Your entire criticism is based on this, and it’s statistical nonsense. His hitout percentage to advantage is elite across his career. Yes, compared to all other ruckman. The other truth is that hitouts to advantage are never a high percentage stat, for anyone ruckman ever. It could be said you’ve got no idea, but better to just imagine you’re angry and misguided. Do us all a favour and pick another target. Have a long think about it before, though.

Why? He’s in his physical prime, not a kid or a veteran like JVR and BBB, he is a good contested mark at times and excellent on the lead, he’s got speed, agility.

Why just allow him to be icing when he can do so much more?

Absolutely pathetic, weak performance punctuated with periods of sheer panic-stations football. Zero intensity from many players. Lack of marking skills very evident again in Roo and Petty. Billings can go back to St Kilda. Pickett needs to stop getting suspended. Petracca needs to think before he blasts away with wasted kicks. What’s wrong with Oliver??

We looked off physically from the get go. Given we had an extra day's break compared to Brisbane, and they are on back-to-back road trips, that's not really a good sign. Sure, they've had a bye and we haven't, but it's Round 5. We can't be this physically exhausted after six games, can we?

I guess it's possible that we were so psyched up for the Adelaide week that we just fell flat this week. And as I posted earlier, we appear to be carrying too many who are obviously not fully fit (Oliver, Chandler, May, Brown) and some who I suspect aren't fully fit (Trac, Viney, maybe Windsor).

Being -66 disposals at 3QT but also -23 tackles is damning. As well as being -20 CPs.

I actually don’t think we have a game style that can beat Brisbane. They sliced through us like they did last year at the MCG but this time they went on with it. We barely adjusted to close down space and they ran us off our legs with all those uncontested marks.

If we play them in the finals, Goodwin will need to be completely prepared for this as this uncontested game will torch us again.

We simply let them chip their way through our defence. It was pathetic. They refused to kick to may or lever,

They had 40 more marks,  30 more tackles and 50 uncontested possessions.

It's exactly how they have played against us the last 3 times.  Our coaching staff were clueless. Gawn tried hard but was useless,  hitting the ball all night to Brisbane players

Out fwds aside from Chandler was disgraceful

Exactly. Brisbane just chipped it to players in space while we guarded grass. They made us look lazy and foolish.

Never seen so many players pointing to space in a game in my life. All the while the opposition chipped it around uncontested with ease and advanced the ball to their forward line. It's a clear tactic against us and Hawthorn didn't have the cattle or skill to pull it off. The better sides like Brisbane do and we need to be able to combat it or we won't go far

Yeah it is all.

If your mum had or has cancer you probably wouldn't appreciate it.

Its well documented that his mum was fine. Crying isn't a weakness but these are football players who aren't notorious for brains. Petty can give them as good as he gets, and to his credit he just ignored Answerth.

Can you point me to those outings please. Might help us all feel better

Collingwood had a terrible loss to Hawthorn last year, dominated in most key stats.

Richmond lost six times prior to their bye in 2019, each loss was by at least 33 points, and included a 67 point loss to Geelong and losses to North and Adelaide who didn't play finals.

I agree, but having this many talls crowding his space doesn't help. We saw it with Melksham in this game last year. Medium marking forwards need space to run and throw their man off.

Noah Answerth = [censored].

That behaviour from him was an absolute embarrassment. Didn’t care who won the grand final last year until I saw that carry on and was so happy that they lost. Happy to support a team that doesn’t carry on with such rubbish win or lose. He is a complete and utter disgrace to football what else is there to say.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
